What's the best lighting upgrade you've ever made to a space?

Ketra before Lutron took over. Amazing light quality, and the trimless regressed is so unintrusive in an 1910 Craftsman. The OG Ketra API provided almost complete control, and built out some great integrations to do daylight hour CCT shift based on color/intensity sensors in the space. Couldn't build out that integration now that Lutron owns it which is sad since I love the light and nothing else can touch the result though.

around 3 grand maybe 3500 this is from a master electrician out here in Los Angeles. I do similar work all around So Cal, orange county, Santa Barbara and other places around here and sometimes out in Vegas for contract work and Hotel work out here in the union. Cali is very expensive and the prices where you guys are is completely different. The market compared to what I'm used to out here are different ball games broski. Good job on this one!! Hope that family is happy with the work you guys killed it!

I always run 14/3 for switch legs so the white can be used as neutral and red and black can be hot and switch leg so there is no confusion

I haven't familiarized myself with the NEC enough yet in my time in the states, but in Canada the CEC dictates the need for a neutral in every switch box because of the smart switches and all this new stuff that needs a neutral in the box. so for a simple switch leg now we would have to use a 14/3

Has also been like that for over 10 years in the US.

So having ALL the tools already is good? I was kind of worried it would be seen as, not humble I suppose? I have not applied anywhere yet but I intend to soon.

Hey Joel, at 51:12 you mentioned the union apprenticeship requirements for a hammer. Is Jefferson a union shop? I only ask now because I haven't heard you mention it before and, while I've worked for both union and non union, I wonder which you preferred as an employee and employer.
My personal preference is non union because the last union job I worked was so full of corruption the IBEW actually sent financial auditors out to our local to close it down and fine all the officers - I know that's not the norm but the whole thing really spoiled it for me.

Jefferson is not a union shop. I built it from the ground up and have always appreciated the flexibility that affords us, though we acknowledge that the union does do good work of standardizing and protecting the trades, so sometimes we borrow ideas from them, like their apprentice hammer requirements 😏

Agree with the “too dark” comment. If you’re taking the time to make the video, get some lighting needed!

I would not use customers trash or toilet. Clean up after yourself, picking up all the little pieces and dust off anything that you got dusty/dirty. I would charge $1600 + $800 for materials. I would guess some would charge $2400.

Would never use their trash, and only bathroom if somehow just had to use it! Always would ask first, but really, just take a quick break to Mcdonalds. No one wants strangers in their bathroom. Pick up every piece of wire, insulation, etc., and they will remember your neat work and your neat methods, too!
