For those wondering, here's why Dairy Queen "doesn't serve ice cream" and why I think it's relatively worse than a lot of the other chains: Most soft serve (including DQ's) doesn't meet the federal regulation requiring ice cream to contain a minimum of 10% butterfat. This is also the same standard held for custard. Typically, the higher the percentage of butterfat, the more expensive and the better the ice cream/custard is. 16.5% butterfat is usually the maximum amount ice cream can handle before it starts turning into a more butter-like substance lol. The higher the butterfat, the slower the ice cream will melt. This is why when you order a cone from McDonald's, it starts melting before you can even take it back to your seat. This is due to the extremely low butterfat, and DQ's soft serve is the same way. This is why chains like Culvar's and Braum's have much higher-quality products. They use their higher quality ice cream/custard to make their concretes, milkshakes, and other basic offerings. So all that being said, I stand by DQ being in D - Tier. It's also worth noting I didn't make the list, it was just an article I found online that I thought would make for a fun series
I wish I had found you on your cross country ice cream finds. If you ever happen thru Colorado again Josh n Johns in Colorado Springs is the best in the state. And the history is awesome 2 college kids started it as a final project. Decades later it's the best in the state!!
as someone who works at dq, the reason the blizzard u ordered “melted” quickly is bc we add caramel to the turtle pecan cluster. the caramel is rly runny and warm so obviously it’s gonna melt….
@@cursorguyIt has a different composition and texture. “Isn’t milk just less sugary, melted icecream? Isn’t butter just icecream with more butterfat?” Foods can be similar but that doesn’t make them the same
DQ soft serve is lower in butterfat, which causes it to melt faster than ice cream with higher butterfat content. This is why some people may prefer other chains with higher quality ice cream products.
Technically DQ doesn't serve ice cream, not because it's soft serve, but because the butterfat content in their dairy product is too low to be considered ice cream(There is federal minimum of 10%, they are 5%). they explained that kinda poorly.
“Wow that was incredible! However, despite the fact we are putting it on the ranking and going out of our way to review it we don’t count soft serve as ice cream so it’s a D tier despite this being an ice cream tierlist.”
@lilybellerive Tim's is extremely mid tho. It's basically Canadian Dunkin Donuts that has been weirdly sentimentalized to the point of being overrated.
DQ soft serve melts faster due to lower butterfat content compared to other ice creams with higher butterfat. Some may prefer chains with higher quality ice cream products for this reason.
This, this affects me physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and personally, and is the single dumbest reason to put something in d tier, YOU EVEN SAID IT DIDNT MATTER IF IT TASTES GOOD! WHY WOULD YOU GO AGAINST WHAT YOU SAID A SECOND LATER, WHY WOULD YOU EVEN RANK THIS, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By definition to be called ice cream the product needs to contain at least 10% milkfat. Essentially all soft serve doesn’t meet this threshold and is technically not ice cream. Lots of novelty “ice cream” products also do not meet this threshold and will say on the packaging (usually in small lettering so you won’t notice) “frozen dairy dessert”. So yes DQ isn’t technically ice cream but essentially no soft serve is. I will say I think DQ has some of the best soft serve and to do a fair comparison you should evaluate DQ vs McDonalds vs Wendys etc. These are all places that serve soft serve confections.
The turtles blizzard melts quickly because it has caramel fudge and chocolate cone dip in it , both of which are kept hot. They both start melting the ice cream instantly
I love Dairy Queen it’s me and my dads go to ice cream spot and I’ve never tried ice cream better then their blizzards there. I normally try their blizzard of the month because I love trying new things and I personally would put it in s tier but it’s my opinion

Worked at DQ for 3 years as my first job, the reason your blizzard almost failed the tip test is due to the flavor you ordered. It has warm caramel in it and also warm chocolate cone dip in it, which when mixed with the soft serve ice cream it becomes much more liquidy lol. Also I agree with most comments, where I personally don’t think dairy queen is the best, it shouldn't have been penalized for not technically being ice cream, it's on the list and should just rank with the rest based on taste. But hey, it's your channel and your list, if you don’t agree with that I say rank it how you want.
Yes, but custard is held to the same standard as ice cream which is a federal minimum of 10% butterfat. DQ soft serve does not meet this minimum requirement

Braums is very popular in oklahoma. I myself work at braums and to be honest it all depends on the crew not just the store. Can we get a clarification on “soft serve” because I’ve always known soft serve to be an ice cream variation. Like white wheat, and whole wheat bread 😅
The blizzard isn’t supposed to last for YOUR test. It’s visual assurance that the product was freshly made, since even the slightest bit of melting is enough to make it fall out. It’s ONLY a test for the employees.
