And people wonder why the bearded vulture is hands down my favorite bird (aside from the fact that they remind me of velociraptors)

These birds are my favorites, right behind crows. They look amazing and are very interesting. Small fun fact: in spanish, their name is quebrantahuesos, aka bone breaker, which I personally find really cool and badass

Always when they appear in the sky in the Alps, everybody stands still and just watches or takes pictures. It's like an attraction. They're so big its special.

Bearded vulture facts: it's also a mythological creature (Huma/homa) in Persian mythology, it's believed that if they fly above you and their shadow falls on you, you'll have your destiny changed and you'll get good luck, wealth, etc..

These are really impressive birds! And just today I heard of a program for resettlement of bearded vultures in the Alps, because they got extinct. Let's hope the young couple from Spain will come together and make their habitat richer - once they got to know each other.

What's strange is that here in Greece, their official name is "Γυπαετός" which means Vulture and Eagle together. Look it up.

@@AnimalFactFiles Supposedly, we came up with this name because the bird is a scavenger (vulture) but it has the elegance of an eagle or is as formidable as an eagle. Something like this.

Saadi praises the Huma bird(the bearded vulture), for its noble behavior of feeding on bones without harming any living creatures.
همای بر همه مرغان از آن شرف دارد که استخوان خورد و جانور نیازارد
"The Huma bird is honored above all birds
For it feeds on bones and harms no creature."

Great stupidity nearly wiped out this magnificent creature. The same could be said also about the red kites which were in abundance in Switzerland! Sadly, I have yet to meet anybody in Switzerland who have any interest in bird photography!
