There are too many inconsistencies that make me go mmmh. I've said a couple in the video (Kathleen just talking to Henry, and everybody just walking around as if there isn't a sniper up there ready to headshot them), but it's those things that make or break the immersion for me. Another thing I didn't mention is how Ellie, Henry and Sam are just running in front of the truck behind them... in a straight line... instead of going to the side and getting protected by the cars and houses around... mmmh. Also Joel suddenly becoming the best sniper ever for infected after missing many shots to a truck coming in a line straight at him... mmmh. So yeah, actually, that whole sequence kinda brought the episode down for me (even though there were cool parts too). I know to some it might be nitpicking, but that's just how I am with my entertainment. If it doesn't make sense, I see it instantly. And it bothers me. All in all still a solid episode though, don't get me wrong!
An interesting feature of the show so far is that real "brutality" is only shown to us when Ellie sees it. We see Joel beating the soldier to death in episode 1 because Ellie is there and sees it. Ellie tortures and kills the stalker in episode 3. We see Joel's sniper kills because Ellie sees them. We see Henry's death, Sam being shot and Kathleen's death. With all other killings (Old Sniper, Bryan) you only hear it because the camera is focused on Ellie while she doesn't see these killings herself. I found it really good to make Sam deaf. In the end, this opened the door for Sam to show Ellie the bite and then she could stay in the room with him without being attacked. He simply didn't hear her. Better than solved in the game and has given Ellie even more depth. She really hoped she could help Sam at that moment. In the game, Sam said nothing about his bite. Ellie entered his room the next morning and was attacked. Sorry but I don't get Abby vibes from Kathleen at all. Neither in character nor in her deeds. Ellie becomes Kathleen in almost every possible way. Abby's revenge was aimed at one person and it stayed that way. The rest was the consequence of Ellie's actions. Abby hasn't let her friends down either. Her revenge was not at the expense of others but herself. Ellie blamed Dina, she let Tommy down, she put all the Wolves on an equal footing with Abby. On this justification, she was able to murder Wolfs across the country. All are the same. She unknowingly killed a pregnant woman. But the moment she decided to continue, she accepted more dead babies. She also tortured for her revenge. Full blown Kathleen. And even when Abby spared her life a second time (after Ellie/Tommy killed all her friends), Ellie kept going. Joel doesn't work with rats because he can't afford to do that as a smuggler. And no, he is not a collaborator because he was not on either side. He only did business with all sides. That does not make him a traitor. I don't think the words daughter and dad will ever be used in connection with Joel and Ellie. That never happened in the game. I think that was also well considered to leave it unspoken. That would have precisely defined and unilaterally limited the power that both have over each other. I don't think Ellie would ever let that happen and Joel wouldn't expect that if it didn't come from herself. The balance of power remains, and they can talk to each other as they want in a balance of respect. Everyone retains their freedom and no one can make demands on the other.
I love hearing other point of views! By comparing Abby and Kathleen, I mostly meant their drive. The first time we meet Abby and Owen, they have almost exactly the same conversation as Kathleen and Perry here. Abby even 'abandons' her group for a while and leaves to search for Joel. It's also all because of her that the group is risking their lives in the first place and being out there, far from their base. Also, I've always thought Ellie and Abby are the two sides of the same coin, they are similar in more ways than not. So yeah, I mean, Ellie could also be similar to Kathleen. But Kathleen and Perry's vibe is more similar to Abby and Owen than Ellie and Dina. That was my train of thought!
12:22 No. Being collaborator is nothing like being a smuggler. Collaborators betray anyone they can to FEDRA to get preferential treatment and/or supplies. Smugglers break FEDRA rules to acquire items that are in demand/forbidden form different sources for profit. In the 1st episode we saw Joel sell drugs to FEDRA agent. That was a simple business transaction, nothing more.
If Bella's performance doesn't win an award, I don't know what else an actor can do to recieve one? Hope this shuts all her critics up. Thank you whimsy! This journey is truly emotional and powerful ❤️

She feels responsible for not being able to heal. 26:45 Ellies shocked scream/cry when Henry killed himself. 😭 28:10 Maybe the slow mo happened in post production and wasn't planned at first. Maybe they wanted a different pacing and used the short footage they had and lengthened it by making the scene before the bloater slow mo. Again a super good reaction, Whimsy! You really pay a lot attention to all the little details. Like remembering that Sam had orange paint on his face at the end of last episode and predicting it will be painted on soon, because Sam used the paint... I didn't remember at all what color it was. the last of us episode 5 was brutal, exciting and sad 😭😭 first the best reaction is bloater this big guy was brutal and he also broke a man's head for god sake 😱 and at the end Sam shows the bite to Ellie , Ellie feels rushed to save him and said " the medicine is the blood " , the knife cuts her hand but only as a drop of blood to save Sam but it didn't work, Sam attacks Ellie, Henry shot his little brother, Henry feels sad for the loss and a lot of guilt because he committed suicide that part was the saddest Ellie wrote "I'm sorry" 😭😭 now analysis the difference the game and the series are very different because Sam from the game did not show the bite and can talk and the series showed the bite and is deaf and does sign language that episode was epic 🌟🌟
