I listened to this live yesterday, it was very moving. I'm alcoholic, I went thirteen years dry, crashed mentally, am now in another battle to rid myself of this. Anyone who looks down or criticises an addict, just think this, who wakes up one morning and decides 'today I'll be an addict'. No one. Like Perry, I thought I was different to others, I was functioning, meeting other addicts was a leveller, the biggest life lesson I've learnt. There is help, I'm receiving it, sending love xx
As a person who works in mental health for the NHS its people like Perry, 'manly' men talking about how they feel what theyve been through and showing how much talking can help. Well done mate. Good luck for the future Perry!
Well done Jim. I’m 16 half years clean, sober and cigarette free. One day at a time. Good man Perry thanks for sharing your experience strength and hope. 🙏🙏
Perry I tell you what it’s like your telling my life story to do with the drinking. This has moved me and give me extra motivation to stop I’ve just recently relapsed and it’s caused mayhem in my life. I’m a massive Arsenal fan and used to watch you playing over Highbury when I was a kid. Thanks Perry this interview has inspired me all love and power to you mate. 🙏❤️🙏
I’d never have known Perry as you always came across as so professional and erudite over the years. Well done on that huge achievement and for sharing- takes guts. All the best & look forward to hearing you more on Talksport.
It's very courageous for Perry to confront this live on air and Jim as he states is coming up 12 years sober. The big problem I have though is with TALKSPORT being very duplicitous here because the flip side to this is Alan Brazil and several of the morning pundits glorifying going out on daytime drinking sessions after the show. Also it's disingenuous to be concerned about addiction and at the same time pushing gambling ads heavily during the breakfast show and even having a regular odds roundup .
All the very best Perry, great to hear you are on the recovery march, you have taken the biggest step already by admitting your addiction keep it going mate, you obviously have a rock beside you your wife Josie My Very Best Wishes To You Both From GOONER Chris. 💪💪👏👏❤️❤️
Perry thank you so much for being as equally brave as you are vulnerable. Addiction in any form is a monster waiting in the shadows and I have no doubt your testimony will have helped many addicts. I have had both family members and friends struggle with Alcoholism and it’s no laughing matter. Although comparison is the destroyer of joy for me sharing this story beats any achievements you had in football. Tony Adam’s, Paul Merson, Kenny Samson etc…I wonder whether there was a drinking culture in football circa 1980’s/1990’s that either encouraged or facilitated the problem?? Either way you are an inspiration my friend. This subject matter is SERIOUS and it is an ADDICTION. Congratulations on being 7 months sober and long may your abstinence continue. 🙏❤️.x
I never comment on UA-cam videos but I just wanted to say well done talkSPORT for addressing this in such length and for Perry for doing this. I'm sure his wife and family and everyone surrounding him are very proud. Well done mate.
Needed to hear this. Been 24hrs thinking on much of what Perry said here. Have decided to finally face myself and say no more. Going to be a long road ahead I know but even admittiting how much of a problem I have has already helped.
Before my time as a gooner supporter but Perry always has struck me as a likeable person and an arsenal die hard! Having lost loved ones to alcoholism fair play for coming on air with such honesty. So many people naively think to be considered an alcoholic you have to been knocking the drink back everyday, and getting paralytic.much more complex than that!
I've never drank and don't have an addictive personality. But well done Perry and very brave to speak out. Hopefully this encourages others to stop drinking and to talk about their problems
Fantastic Perry! As a recovered addict I admire massively your honesty, your courage, your humility! Imagine if everyone in our world was to have that same humility! What a world we would have!
Perry thank you for being so open and talking about a subject that has so much stigma and misunderstanding. I have a very close person in my life who is struggling with alcoholism and I have seen how destructive it reallly is and how powerless you are over this substance. All I can say from a family member's point of view, your family are so proud of you. But they're not just proud of you for being sober, but for recognising that you are struggling and youve commited to doing something about it. Thank you Simon & Jim for creating an environment for Perry to feel comfortable to share his story and for using your platform to really get this word out there 🤍
Sounds like me. I don’t drink during the week and don’t have cravings but come the weekend I get the greed, can’t stop and black out. This is a bit of a wake up call.
My grandad and uncle died from being alcoholics and I've witnessed it. I dont drink much but when I do I get cravings but it only lasts a short time. I've stayed off it now for good
Well done Perry honestly well we’ll done this cannot be easy you are a Soldier a real man’s man. You’ve helped so so many people listening too this coming from 80s this was the normal through football clubs the norm mate. I’ve so much admiration for you my Soldier I could see and feel feel your emotions talking regarding this I am so proud off you and not just me right across the UK honestly trust me my friend Nuff Respect, your a real man’s man take care and and please keep up the talk sport work talking about the the premiership games love Joe x
Ive always liked Perry Groves punditry on Radio 5 and Talksport... great balanced breakdown`s, analysis and opinions when working the games and the current situations and issues of the day when broadcasting, articulate, intelligent & listenable ... keep going fella.. :)) x
Excellent broadcasting from all of you. I’m an arsenal fan (palace are my second team) but I think it’s very important message perry and all of you put out there. Hats off and continue the good fight chaps
Respect to Jim white and him not hiding his own past problems. And of course respect to perry as well. Hope they both continue on their upward curve. As regards drugs and alcohol is a drug. Any drug that can change the way you feel and think is stronger than you. When you feel you are in control of your drug use that is when you should realise the drug controls you.
If you’ve got a addictive personality, stay away from gambling, alcohol and drugs. You’ll end up ruining your life and destroying your family. Now Perry groves needs to detox that Alcohol out of his system.
I was sexually abused when i was around 6 years of age they ended when i was around 12 years of age, it's playing havoc with my life still after 40 odd years I'm going to look for help after this
I suffered from the same blackouts, woke up in the cells one morning and got 6 months for assault and fighting with 4 police officers and couldn't remember 1 second of it.
Meet Perry outside an arsenal themed event had a quick chat and thought what a lovely fella, this shows I was right🤷🏻♂️Get back to your best mr groves.
Gud luck to all those who r bad with alcohol , i am 15yr sober but i was in denile for longer , 3 suicide attempts cos of drink but sumhow i got there , wel done to perry and jim for going public , thanks
To be fair to Perry before the accusations of being weak flood him, to live with being ginger and then baldness is a double whammy many of us would struggle with. We should applaud his courageousness👏👏👏
Andy my thoughts are with you dude, I hope you can find a solution to your issues and use the fact you have children as a motivator to find that help and solution, there is light at the end of the tunnel and that light can be your kids, it’s just a matter of finding that someone or program that helps you stay focused on that light….remember dude you are loved.
Funny you said to Simon quietest I've ever seen you I was actually thinking the same, he actually was showing a bit of his human side and not a debate or controversial side.
its one of the most soul and lifes destroying addictions I have drank an average house value in booze x 2 i am ashamed about it, but i still love drinking good luck man, i really wish i never ever drank
Well done Perry, I was a gas engineer, self employed, went bust because I couldn't face doing jobs that previously I relished doing. Just thought I'd screw it up.
Maybe you guys need to get the lowly brick layer , plumber, road sweeper that also struggles with issues in , not putting Perry's experiences down, one tends to notice only celebs get to tell their stories.

Not everyone is an addict though 😂 You can't start catering to folk with problems just to appease another section of society.
@@rolandprat9648 It's a personal choice to be "an addict" These pathetic simps always blaming others when in essence it's a choice.

Happy for this man. No one knows the battles we face as individuals. Would love to hear stories of peoples struggles with weed and addiction.
