I remember watching this match in a pub after playing cricket. As Essex fans, the mood swung a lot! Was a bit strange that Lancs only had 5 bowlers - if one had a bad day (or broke down as here) you were a big buggered, although they should have got over the line anyway. Essex had Stephenson, Gooch and Waugh to back up Foster, Pringle, Childs and Topley.
I remember watching this aghast as John Childs hit those runs. So much went wrong that day for Lancs. Danny Morrison wasn't exactly Wasim Akram, and Athers going for all those runs after DeFreitas had to go off.
