My almost two years old son, was in a very bad mood. He was crying and yelling and was utterly uncooperative. Then I started playing this music and he was quietly playing by himself for 1 hour 40 minutes and 55 seconds. Thank you Bach, and thanks for uploading!
What did he do in the last 56. second of the music?
why not just say "for about 1.5hr", tf is wrong with you???🤨🤨 /s
my man did u really edit a 5 year old comment to get back at some random nitpick reply? lol
It amazes me how young children 'get' music. Once a friend's 1-yr old toddler was dancing in her diapers to a Mozart keyboard sonata. There's a spot where the composer substituted a syncopated beat for a note in sequence on its third repetition. She caught it without a hitch, and no, she hadn't heard it before unless she was somewhere else in the house while I played it for myself. Another time I was babysitting her while I played some Bach recording she started bouncing up and down to the rhythm, obviously happy and content. She's now a 30-something and seems to have no interest in Bach. Too bad.
I, on the other hand, didn't discover Bach until I was 13. At the age of 76, Bach still speaks to me like no other composer, not remotely. In fact, this music only grows on me as I age.
@@kostaborojevic498 Whatever was bringing out the 'terrible twos' probably was forgotten. He just needed some time to let go of it.
Bach is the most spiritual of all composers. His music makes me think of God.
Ok, what or who is God?
@@kostaborojevic498 My God, the one I worship and serve, is the One who created the heavens, the earth, the sea and the dry land. He even created you.
The Angels spoke to Bach, Bach listened and made Music
My little 5 year old boy is at home ill and is enjoying just lying there listening to this with me. Serenity. Thank you for the upload.
+Clara Lonsdale Wonderful! His brain obviously hasn't yet been co-opted by a smartphone.
@Paras Mento Kudos for seeing the problem. Kids are rarely wise.
I hope he recovered. Ah yes Bach. One of the few people who can make me cry, except wife and relatives😀.

Classical music has the ability to convey a wide range of emotions without the need for lyrics. I can feel the passion, happiness, and even sadness through this music.

This picture of Bach is the Bach that visits you in your nightmares if you didn't listen to Bach during the day. He ends every dream with "I'll be Bach"
I probably wouldn't mind. That'd be hilarious lol.
This joke... I don't know... I mean okaaayyy. 🙄😂

No, it's not a joke! If you fail your note, Bach will appear in your dreams with his stern, implacable look of disapproval!

In very difficult times, eastern Europe needs peace. Enter Bach...
Yess Bach will definitely solve the Ukraine War!!
Absolutely beautiful to listen to for the audience and it must be an absolute hell for the flautist to perform. There are some extended passages here where it seems Bach forgets the flautist needs to breathe. It seems that whether it is choral, keyboard, violin or something else Bach's music always demands quite a lot from the musicians to perform it correctly. But what beautiful torture!! Wonderful peformance--thank you for putting this on youtube.
i wish it wasn't made straight one take
they are a challenge to play, but there are places to breathe!! They're also fun to play
Heavenly! I feel like all is (or can be) good in this world listening to this...everything in its place...
JS Bach is pure brain music. Highest genius.

Whatever Bach composes is beautiful. And his music can be jazzed or sung (Swingle Singers, for you old folks who remember them) or swung. No matter what, it's always beautiful!!!! And I want to second that comment about "the comments are almost as wonderful as the music!"
Out of all classical music, Bach is one of the most powerful authors.
he´s indeet the most powerful!
definitely powerful, seeing how many kids he had lol

Bach's music has such a natural rolling beauty to it. there's just nothing like it...
such a pleasure to listen to.
The B minor sonata is the best example of your observation
As they say on some t-shirt or elsewhere, “Bach is best.”
Not sure if I'm a fan of baroque or not but this is the most boring, predictable, repetitive and overrated composer of all time.
Vivaldi and Handel are miles ahead of him. Even Bach's sons Carl Philip and Johann Christian Bach were better composers.
@@dr.a.995 Yeah... they should make t-shirts "Bach is overrated"
Bach is transcendental and sounds divine.
Bach the creek flows into Bach the ocean and pours into Bach the universe. It always gets better as it goes.
I’m very glad to have heard this. Such a blessing that his and other wonderful ancient music was preserved.
@Emmanuel Pahud loooolll is it the real Pahud?
Bach is transcendental and sounds divine..
These sonatas are absolutely glorious. The flute, well played, has a unique sound and these works expertly performed by Emmanuel Pahud exhibited its many possibilities out clearly. Thank you all concerned. I completely fell in love with the face of the gentle man in the portrait too. The harpsichordist, Trevor Pinnock was, as always, supportive and seemed faultless.
It is not Bach on the portrait. Nose is not the same, eyes are similar though...Whose portrait is this, does anyone know? One of his relatives?
@@juliak8093 Apparently, some noble man of Bach's era, but he sure was a hunk, whomsoever .Ha, Ha.

Beautiful , Bach is my favorite compositor, i know some sonate by heart, bécasse, im listenning it every day!!! Its my yoga peacefull..thank you Maestro Pahud!!!!!

He was gone awhile, but now he's Bach!
LMAO
This music is absolutely sumptuous ... richness of melodic speech, breathtaking harmonies, constantly renewed orchestration in the use of the orchestra's timbres, in short a Babylonian sound architecture erected by humble and immense performers.
J. S. Bach is the best among the best!
The best forever and ever, J. S. Bach.
I am not a religious person, but listening to Bach really makes me wonder... It makes me want to believe. I think to myself, "how can something so beautiful exist?". The obvious answer is that it merely a supreme talent, albeit rare, of man. But then I think, " but beauty is not the only thing this music exhibits, there is something else here. Something very powerful and exceedingly difficult to perceive. It is almost as the hushing and loving embrace once feels as a child being coddled by their mother right after a discomfort; except here it is the mind that is hushed, and some creative force that embraces me." What else, if not a divine energy, can this be? What word is there to better describe this feeling than the word "divine"? You could argue evolution and biology and all that, but what a boring way to explain coincidence; the ultimate probability of our very existence! Perhaps there is indeed more- no, there must be more. Whatever this obscurity is, and whether we can quantify it or not, Bach was its beacon: a channeler of its light.

Indeed I agree
I’m loving Bach and all his pieces days and nights!
At 38:00, one of Bach's greatest triumphs of floridly permutative logic. The counterpoint is vigorous and amazing. The music soars.
And a wonderful transition at 39:32. Bach digs into a triple meter swing and just does amazing things.

It's amazing. That B Minor Sonata is my favorite amongst his flute works. It's unthinkabley good

i like literally all of these sonatas with my heart and soul, but this one 01:05:33 - Sonata For Flute & Harpsichord In E Flat BVW 1031: I Allegro Moderato is my personal favorite and 38:00 - Flute Sonata In B Minor BWV 1030: Presto this one favorite of minor pieces. the piece in E-flat major is just joyful and amazing and the B minor is great too! i also really like the sonatas in E and A major, as well as the C major sonata.

I just love classical music so relaxing
Especially on a rainy day
One of my favorite sonates for flute. Thanks for sharing.
I was just listening to the Mozart flute concertos, which are certainly lovely, and I know it sounds cliche, but there's a beauty and depth to Bach that even Mozart doesn't quite match.
So true.
Steve Hugel He's got a mixtape dropping next week.
Just listen to KV285 By Rampal, Stern, Accardo and Rostropovitch and reconsider what you said...
Bach's style of polyphony slightly branched away from the palestrina-like style which was used by other composers, and was more consistent. That is why his music sounds more genuine.
Thank you for the recommendations!
Bach: beginning and end of all music
Damn.
he makes them sound easy, theyre so difficult.I like the way he keeps the integrity of the Baroque style in his lack of vibrato etc.!
+james robacker He uses plenty of vibrato; it just isn't exaggerated. Anyway, I agree with you that a subtler vibrato is perfect for this.
I didn't say total lack of vibrato
I heard a flautist play on period instrument, with no vibrato,it was incredible
james robacker Baroque flute is wonderful.
There certainly is vibrato in his playing! It is more subtle, which is appropriate when performing Bach's works, but it is there!!
pura alegria, como o SOL VAI IRRADIANDO SUA LUZ SEM DISTINÇAO!
Have to agree that the recording imbalance among the three musicians diminishes what are truly wonderful, Godly performances.

i studied flute all my life but since like two years ago started to study baroque recorder repertoire and maybe y’all call me fool but you need to listen the 1034 sonata in the arrangement and the sound of a professional recorder solist, like Michala Petri... just a recommendation

Recorder IS the "flûte" of Baroque.
In french we say "flûte à bec" for recorder or "flûte traversière" for "flute". Always thinking it's a lack of vocab, and not respectful at all for that english call "recorder".
Barock is made for recorder, it's always more beautiful..
