This is why I love FGs so much. The mix of game and character knowledge, execution, reactions, resource management, and reading your opponent all being a part of your decision making. They're just so holistic in a way that other genres don't really fill quite as well, to me, at least. Every player is different and values these aspects differently, which makes it really cool that no two players, even playing the game character in a game, won't play exactly the same. Great vid as always.
On a side note, if anyone's watching this video and wanting to get into fighting games, don't rush the process of learning, but also don't rush the process of finding the right game and character for you. Games are meant to be enjoyed, so if you find a game that's a bit less popular or a character that may require some unique things to juggle, sticking with it long term will pay off.

I'm glad Brain Control has gotten a second life as a fighting game diagram after the kneecapping errata and Change of Heart being unbanned

I don't think you need to learn frame data neccesarily, players like Punk have talked about how they don't actually know frame data but think about it in concepts of "this is jab punishable, this is safe, this gives me full combo, this links into that" things like that can be kept broad and not neccesarily numbers focused.
I think this video is good as a mostly modern day 2D game focused one, but I wouldn't agree it's really a video about fighting games, good presentation though for what points you made

It does depend on the game as well. Tekken has a universe of difference compressed between -10 and -15, and that's just for the punishable moves.
Other games have a wider spread that makes it easier to learn and rule-of-thumb your way out of situations. Specially modern games with how few moves are actually plus or punishable.

I feel like you could have emphasised situations where game sense and execution combine, for example keeping track of mental stack and anti-airs, how good are people at doing dps without even thinking about it, and glad you mentioned how combo expression can be a way to show a player’s game sense, in what do they value the most in this combo, in the first example, the execution guides the game sense, (how ready are you to anti-air/ check an approach) in the other the game sense guides the execution (what are you going for in this combo, on the fly)

Love the video as always, could be nice to have some text stay in screen a bit longer though so there’s no need to pause to keep ip

    Yes! Awesome video!
I wish people praised the actual player vs player aspects of fighting games more than executional difficulty.
The basketball analogue was really good too!
I think that there's a third part of the game which is the designing, testing, and redesigning your gameplan and conceptions of neutral, defence and offence. But you could say that this falls under game sense.
Thats not meant to be a nitpick. I just think that it's another part of the game that doesn't get enough airtime.
    Again, awesome video!

It's definitely a fallacy that you NEED to know frame data to have fub. Yes it's very helpful for taking your turn back or knowing when to block ect. That being said you won't make it past the casual level without it

im 4 minutes in but i already feel like it doesnt line up with my experience learning fighting games
i learned through just mashing buttons for the most part and figuring out through trial and error how to use all my moves, only complementing that trial and error experience with information from wiki and discord
i also have been playing fighting games for 500 hours now and i barely know any framedata, and it isnt that important
i also started out without knowing all my moves and was happy to just use half of them for a good while
as for combos i dont believe a new player should have to worry about them, i played for 60 hours before i started practicing my first real combo and i had lots of other things that were more important to learn first
edit: i think the problem is that all of these things depend quite a bit on the game and the individual,
and while this video was mostly about general fighting games a lot of it specifically applies more to sf6
i do like the video as a whole but the first half felt a bit off in particular, and i think this game was mostly about sf6
edit2: i think your argument about smash was also a bit off because smash isnt just more popular because of the easier execution, but also because the more varied gamemodes and items, the overall polish of the game and the brand recognition also play a part
