I started my first aquarium as an adult and it ended up as a blackwater riparium, and it's almost maintenance free. I had brown algae, but copepods and detritus worms ate it all up.
I think i will have a sleepless night tonight as I can't stop watching and learning from your videos. Thanks for keeping me awake 😂. Great content! Thanks!
Doing a similar setup as a turtle tank, so far tank is fully cycled, have been doing tests weekly (parameters all stable) and comfortable enough to move on to bi-weekly tests. Truly is a wonderful beginner set up, I struggled with aquariums and plants in the past, this however has been almost too easy as I am still expecting the tank to crash being 4 months in. Love your video, love your setup, keep giving good information and inspiration!
Hello. I have a problem with my water... Its a well water but have oil and a biy yellow. So i know it can't be used on aquarium at all. Could i use mineral water gallon water that we usually drink? Its kind of RO water right?
Hi! No, it stays ON only for 8h/day. It's much better for fish and plants and this way you will avoid algae issues. Don't worry that you are new :) Watch some videos, ask few questions and start small - you will get there. Good luck!
Beautiful. I am, planning a tank with low maintenance but I was planning to build it on actual dirt and soil. Do you think the naturally occurring ammonia will be too much of an issue for algae? There will be UV lights and proper water change and filtration, only no "hands in water" for cleaning.
Thanks! Regarding your tank: I think it all depends on many things. In general you should be fine as long you keep the amount of dirt and soil on reasonable level (not too much) and cap it with sand. And I would start with lots of plants (lot of pland mass) to help with the start. Many people run very successful tanks on dirt and thay are doing great ;)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it :) Yes, I'm still working on voice quality - I'm still learning on how to do it best and probably will invest in better equipment.
No, I'm not using any liquids. There are 2-3 clay balls in the substrate that I'm changing every 4 months. Additionally I'm NOT removing any silt or decaying leaves and they are decomposing on the bottom.
I have 2 guppies with curved spines, one of them has a tail that looks heavy (it’s tail is going downward but it’s not that down) and the other one has a curve on its back and a small S shape curve in its tail (the meat makes its body look straight but the bone inside is curved). Do you know if it’s scoliosis or tuberculosis? It’s male and female, they both got it in adulthood and the male got beaten up before it’s spine got curved (they don’t show any symptoms but the male had scale loss due to getting beaten up but it’s healed then got a curved spine) pls if you know can you tell me how common tuberculosis is and how to tell if it’s scoliosis or tuberculosis.
What kind of internal filter are you using on this beauty??? Alder cones and oak leaves btw???? Are almond/cattapa leaves just for bettas shrimp and snails???
Filter is a very simple AQUAEL Pat MINI from Amazon. Yes I'm using alder cones and oak leaves. Almond and catappa are also fine, but more expensive and there is no point in using them if you don't have the fish that like to eat them (like Otos).
@Aquascaping Cube thank you very much for the reply, I do have ottos in two tanks and this is the first time I've heard that they like to eat them so I'm delighted to know that now, will be adding oak leaves from the yard to other tanks in the future, do you suggest boiling them first or just a quick rinse and into the tank, also will definitely check that filter out, been all over the place with filters and have been searching for some better options!!!!
Just keep those leaves in boiling water for few minutes (until they start to sink). And don't use fresh leaves! They need to be dead and dryed out! Good luck!
I don't, it decomposes and over time it just falls between sand. I used to vacuum on occasion but there is simply no need anymore. It just stays clean.
Hi. Great setup for a betta! Just start slow, don't put too much light at the beginning. For this kind of setup, use slow growing plants like ferns, anubias, buce - but use a lot of them. Also include few floating plants. Include as much wood as you can, it will make water to change color, make the water much more healthy and help you with the algae. Don't use filtration with very strong current - it will not be good for the betta. Be patient and have fun with it ;) Good luck!

This is one of my best tanks. Running totally on autopilot. Please consider leaving a like if you liked the video - it helps me a lot. Thank you!
I am about to start building a blackwater tank and this video was perfect. Your tank is amazing. Thank you
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!
How do you keep the sand so free from the decomposing organic material like the leaf litter

Do you have fish in with the turtles and if so what kind
....you didn't mention how you set the substrate up - what did you use? just sand? what brand?
Interesting video and most problems are fixed by going back to basics like lighting.
Thank you! Yes, it was supposed to be easy by design :)
Love the video! Question, how often do you do water changes and how many percentage each time?
Thank you! I make water changes every 7-9 days. Around 20%
you've done an amazing job to your tank, absolutely beautiful
Thank you very much!
I am wondering if the light stays on all the time, is there an option to turn it off at night? I am so new....I will watch other videos

@@AquascapingCube thank you so much for your reply :) let's see what it will come out! Keep you posted
Hey i like your channel i have a quick question which filter are you using and does this tank have airbubbule suply ?
Do you need that light? Like if you had it in indirect sunlight what would be diffrences?
Thanks for sharing. New sub from Australia ❤️🇦🇺
Awesome! Thank you!
I remember the original video. This turned out great! And it's so much better to hear you speak (but mic quality could be better :P)

Are you dosing liquid fertilizer for the plants ? If not where the plants getting the nutrients from

@@AquascapingCube thanks for replying i have learnt something new for my future setups 😊
Any co2 using?
That's really good information 💯👍✌️ people really need to try a black water tank most people would love it.💯
Thank you!
How do u manage without a bubbler? And what would u say is too crowded for having a 75 gallon tank?
Beautiful tank. I'm also curious about the shelving unit it's on, do you remember the name of it?
Thank you! This shelve is custom made by my local carpenter and is not available in retail :|
Nicely done. 🌿❤️🐠
Thank you! And thanks for watching!
after several water changes, how do you maintain the black color of the water? by adding clean water, the intensity of the black water is lost
It's trye. But I keep replacing oak leaves and alder cones after they decay. They release fresh tannins and the water stays darker.
@@AquascapingCube thank you!
Do you put the heater on in the dark start method 🤷🏼♂️✌️🇨🇦
No, never :) I rarely use any heaters in my setup in general.
@@AquascapingCube ok thanks some people say use the heater and some say no heater 🤷🏼♂️✌️👍🇨🇦

Amazing how long do you leave the lights on and at what percentage?
Thanks! 8h at 40%. I'm using smart plug - so it's automated and always exactly 8h, no exceptions.
@@AquascapingCube cool I use the fluval aquasky and planted 3.0

How do you get rid of the acumulated fish poop in the sand?
I don't, it decomposes and over time it just falls between sand. I used to vacuum on occasion but there is simply no need anymore. It just stays clean.
Beautiful. I wish I found your channel earlier. Was that a pine cone & oak leaves in the tank?
Thank you. Those are alder cones and oak leaves.
I’m trying to build one of these with a 30 gallon tank any advice? I would like to try it with some Bettas

Can you put Discus fish in there?
In black water? Yes. In this specific one? Not a chance - it's waaaay to small ;)
How many liters is this tank?
It's 45L (12gal)
The proof is in the pudding - this tank rocks!
Thank you! :)
Big fan of ur big bro
I am building this for my parent
Any co2 added?
No, nothing like that. Those are very easy plants.
Is there any filtration/oxygenation?
No oxygenation, just internal filter.
Thank you. I guess a nano sponge filter would handle everything
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
No filter...there will be no issue
5 months ?...hmmm maybe without fish"s...love it.Thx//ups WATER CHANGED ? man "no maintenance" means NO WATER CHANGED :))))))))))))))))))))))))))
