    I'm kicking off my series with a side by side of color blackmagic full frame produces versus blackmagic pocket 6k pro.
    What do you think?
    I definitely prefer the 6kpro, but full frame has that full frame look...

    Great video! I'm also not sure what it is exactly, but having tested the Pocket 6K Pro, Pocket 4K and the new 6K Full frame side by side (and against the Panasonic S1H for fun as well), I found the skin tones on the Full Frame 6K tint slightly green or magenta depending on white balance where as the Pocket Cameras looked more natural (to my eye) out of camera - and I did notice that very slightly in your cheeks here as well. Combined with the poor 2nd native ISO performance on the full frame 6K and I was actually a little dissapointed if I'm honest - I really wanted to like it with the Pyxis coming out but it just didnt do enough for me compared to other modern cinema cameras - the older Pocket Cameras look better and IMO so does the ancient S1H. Here's to hoping for a Full Frame G2 with a new sensor at some point in the near future!

      Keep hoping my friend but I think we both know the answer - Blackmagic peaked at 6k pro pocket and now just riding the wave a smart operator / creator should look at mirrorless and nothing else really. You the guy with great hair right ? 😅

    It's easy to tell when you have one of the images zoomed in (cropped 6k Pro) hahaha. I would buy the FF because like you said, you can easily match the color in post AND the FF sensor looks a bit sharper, contrasty and produces better colors, all while still keeping that Blackmagic sauce ;)

    The Sigma 20mm 1.4 is an incredible lens (on Canon at least)! Regret swapping mine for the 14-24 1.4. It's got a certain magic (imo) similar to the Nikon 58mm 1.4G. Alright, so , here's a million dollar question I have yet to see anyone of answer. Tons of people claim that they can match other cameras to almost look as good as Blackmagic colors -- but I have yet to see any practical information on this topic (time, effort, and skill level required). Is it a fair assumption to state that grading BlackMagic cameras requires significantly less skill and time in order to achieve its looks -- or is that just wishful thinking? I feel like I've seen a ton of BMPCC6K and BMPCC4K footage shot by people who aren't color grading wizards.

    • @CINENIMUS
      @CINENIMUS  9 днів тому

      14-24 1.4??? You meant 2.8 right… 👀
      Yeah the 20mm is magical for sure with it was lighter haha
      Regarding matching colour grade - yeah sorry but it ain’t “that easy” and if you are a noob or not they all grade same once you nail the correct workflow / pipeline. There are some very specific rules you got to follow once you get your head around the concepts then nothing is that hard but matching them, like any cameras depends on the lighting - the more naturalistic the more difficult it is to match. If the lighting / color is all over the place funky like then you can match anything to anything.

      1.4 lenses aint cheap or bad dont hate on high quality professional lenses only because they are first made with photography in mind. Remember they are perfected for least amount of flaws and maximum resolution. You pay a crazy premium for the shitty chinese glass just because it has a “CiNeMa” housing and crap glass that only opens up to 2.9

    Thanks for the interesting test but it has a problem: In order to compare de image quality (and only that) you have to make all the other variables identical: lens, field of view, and depth of field. I assume you opened the lens to f/1.4 in both cases. The problem is that, in the case of the smaller sensor (APS-C), that opening represents an equivalent in FF of f/2.1 (f/1.4 x 1.5 crop = f/2.1). The smaller area of the APS-C sensor means it gets less overall light than the FF sensor which is 30% bigger. Additionally, the effect of moving the Pocket further away from the subject increases the depth of field. You can see this clearly on the hair: the hair is out of focus on the FF while it is on focus on the Pocket. This makes the FF image looks as it has less resolution, less detail. In this types of scenes where there is not too much to look at (tight shoot) people tend to prefer images that have more detail. That's why to make a proper comparison you should close the lens on the FF camera to f/2.1. By doing that you will get the same overall amount of light per area unit on each sensor, and the same depth of field on each image.
    Since you are planning to make daily videos, I suggest you to make the same comparison but to close the lens to f/2.1 in the case of the FF sensor camera keeping the opening on the Pocket to f/1.4 (assuming you are positioning the cameras relatively so you are getting the same field of view on both). And I also suggest to film scenes outside, where you can compare the rendering of the sky or of trees. The FF sensor is far superior to the one on the Pocket in terms of image quality and somehow you are not capturing that (though Pocket sensor is better in read out speed). But again, thanks for doing this comparisons, not too many people are testing this two particular cameras side by side.

      no way f1.4 is f1.4 not going to change the lighting / iso for each to just match in the real world the sun don't just dim down when you want to haha also you don't buy FF camera to shoot with closed down lenses as well as you don't get a 1.4 to shoot with anything less than 1.4 unless you absolutely have to. these tests are based on real world usage scenarios - not lab environments
