The comments on this video are hilarious to watch when you consider his lack of oline and scheme changes that led to his decline in production and accuracy. Watch his 2022 highlights when he had better help and you’ll see the difference. He’s a baller and will ball in the NFL
Extremely slow release. Late reads limited foot work. Throws into double coverage sometimes and that’ll be picked off easy in the nfl. However he does have the frame and is athletic enough with a good arm. He will definitely be a project. He’d need to sit a minimum of a year possibly 2-3 years would be ideal. He won’t get that though he will be thrust out to start he will be on a terrible team with his shortcomings being exposed and be out of the league in less then a couple years
Yeah he has the size and look and attitude so he's getting all the same love as a lot of the prototypical NFL bust QBs.. but when you watch these highlights, you want to see a QB facing NFL level adversity. Any QB in the NFL, good, bad, or terrible, if they drop back and they have a nice clean pocket and a wide open receiver, 9 times out of 10 it's going to be a successful pass. So seeing that on college film means next to nothing. What you want to see is a guy that is under duress fitting tight passes into tight windows... and so far the only QB i've seen do that consisterntly from the 2024 class in any of these highlight packages is Penix Jr. When I'm watching these highlights, I see Maye dropping back into a vacuum sealed pocket, and casually floating a pass off target to a wide open receiver who is patiently waiting for the pass to arrive. I don't know anymore than anyone else what Maye will look like in an NFL pocket, but as far as these highlights go, absolutely nothing special.
i want drake to succeed in the nfl. but the bears dont need him. he looks like trubisky 2.0. lot of picks. big arm. the accurancy isnt flashing for me. lack of big time competition. he went 4-4 in the Acc...minnesota/south carolina he did okay. ncstate/virginia.../clemson made him look mortal. i want to see his bad film. as a bears fan...i wanna keep fields. build the team through the trenches and get a whole new coaching staff. the lockerroom wants justin. unless they are going to sell the team(mcaskeys), and then warren or whomever want to replace poles/coaches/ and flus...fine. but the offensive coordinator needs to be fired 8 weeks ago. eberflus should just be a D.C. and poles has mostly done a good job! yes not perrfect. but better than Ryan pace. id rather ggamble on a 2nd round/3rd/4th round quarterback than gamble on williams/maye. we see dak prescott/purdy and others....do your research and avoid quarterback at the top of the draft if you are not sure. if you can say williams/maye gonna be an upgrade over fields pull the trigger. im not seeing it.
i see a lot more athleticism, arm talent, and playmaking ability out of maye than i do trubisky. only real comparison between the two is they both played at UNC.
It's hard to figure who in this draft will be legit. Based on what I've seen from highlights, none of them consistently have to make timing throws where they drop back plant back foot and let it go. I saw maybe 8 passes Drake does that in 10 min worth of highlights. Really he plants and does a shuffle or two then releases. None of the big 3, Caleb Drake and Jayden really stand out in that department and IMO you won't know who is the better of the 3 as far as passing until they play on Sundays. I think I like Penix and Bo as much as i do these guys.
Don't forget, this is a highlight video and not a complete game video against a single opponent where you see all passes (completed and incompletes). Even this video though, that slow releasing wind up baseball throwing motion is hard to watch. Not as pronounced as Tebow but it's still there. He's got the size, strong arm, athletic... seems to have the tangibles NFL scouts like. But that slow developing wind up is bad. Foot work, scanning the field, etc, can be taught easier by a good coach but throwing motions are a lot harder to change since that's what he's used to all his life. As a Commanders fan, I really hope they don't draft this guy. I would definitely prefer Daniels, even with his slight frame.
Unless this guys is some mentally quick, photographic memory savant he is going to BUST. Weak underthrown passes, not overly fast or athletic, seemingly slow in his progressions..I just dont understand what people see
@@devonrhodes4765 ? What do you mean? He's dead accurate regarding his assessment of Drake. I don't see all the hype. If not for Penix injuries, he'd be rated higher than this guy. Penix is more pro ready than him.
@@TheStrutz87 Yeah I've watched Highlight videos of Penix, McCarthy and now Maye. IMO McCarthy looks like the best fit for the Vikings. Like you said I don't like Maye's long release and to many of his passes are underthrown.
He looks like a josh Allen clone to me he can make things work with a bad O line but most of his Hilights are his receivers being Wide open and not necessarily good passes if he goes to the right team he could be great but I think he might be a bust
So many underthrown balls. I like DM, but I'm not sure if he, CW (attitude), and JD (weak arm) are worth the hype this year.
This comment is going to continue to age poorly

Is this video about Maye or the WR's?
He really does remind me of Justin Herbert

His deep passes all look under thrown
yea if these are his highlights im not that impressed
Bo Nix looks a better prospect

He's going to be a good qb at the very least. He has massive potential. 4.6 forty nice to have in your wallet when your a pocket passer.
Average weapons with a less than average oline . Don’t sleep on the kid with nfl coaching and better weapons

Not sold on this guy at all, too slow and weak arm

Thank god you are not our GM. Really would choose the worse prospect because of a throwing motion 😂

He kinda looks scared when he throws the ball, if theres anyone close to him.
I hope my Vikings DON'T move up for this overrated guy. Penix or McCarthy before THIS guy.
I dont like the long release. Im all about JJ, dude just has the moxie and toughness, and arm is alot stronger than i thought
Yeah if goes to the Vikings he can't be under throwing JJ like he does to his WR's in college.
