    The Mako3 can easily be used in a one disc round. I am a beginner and already this is my favorite disc to throw.

    I just had my Mako -3 arrive on Monday and tried it today, I used it for all of my tee shots and approach shots, and only used my Innova Rhyno putter for the entire 18 holes and I knocked 15 strokes off my score from Sunday. :)

    I just got one today. I am a beginner and really seem to be taking a liking to this disc. While other discs seem to be frustrating to throw, this one seems to always go where I want it to go. It really feels good in the hands too. I got the star plastic.

    Love the Mako3! Great presentation in the video, dude.
    I carry 5 molds: Aviar, Roc3, Mako3, Teebird3, Shryke
    I choose ALL of my discs based on their performance in my one-disc rounds. Sadly that leads to a closet full of Destroyers, Blizzard Bosses, Firebird, Firestorms, and even a very overstable Thunderbird that I just can't quite ever choose over any of my Roc3s yet just for a lack of ability. I'd go as far as to say that I'm at that ability level where: if I need a Thunderbird/Firebird type of throw, the best thing I can do is let off of the Teebird3 and put it on a good hyzer for a 270 foot hook shot. Or give 100% to a Roc3.
    I say all that to say: those are some great drives your consistently making with the Mako3! It's nice to see their potential when thrown by someone that might be just a couple pegs within reach of my current ability. Of course, I'm just speculating. You might even be a pro.
    I hit 2 personal bests the other day. I threw my Aviar for 255 for the first time, and I got a Shryke to go 365, which is 45 feet further than my previous best. Of course... the tailwind was really great at that moment.
    I hope to get on your level one day. Currently I can't get my Makos to go much further than my Aviars. Maybe 270 on a good throw.

    My 180g Star Mako3 is my favorite midrange because it's so straight. I did a comparison of the original Mako with the MD and came to realize there was a progression from Mako to MD to Mako3, with the MD essentially being a tweener disc, due to the dome flattening more from Mako to MD and the flattest with the Mako3. Also the "Plus" mold technology was implemented along the way.

    Thanks for the video. I never enjoyed the Mako3, but easily enjoyed the buzz. As a relative rookie, seeing what a real arm can do with this disc makes me want to give it a second look. Are you hyzer flipping alot of these drives or are you throwing pure hyzer and they are flipping on their own?

    I love this Disc! Anyone that loves it make sure you try it XT Pro plastic! The grip XT Pro adds even more control of this disk and plays better in wet weather or damp grass than its other plastics. And the XT Pro is tougher than pro plastic holds the characteristics and doesn’t beat in. Great plastic combo with this all-around disc.

    I've been playing disc golf for about 20 years, give or take. I will say for about the first 15 years I played, I had absolutely zero ideas what i was doing. I had never watched any videos or tutorials as far as form or grip is concerned. I played with a group of coworkers initially, about 8 of us. Only 1 of us was realy any good(not me) so I'd try to emulate him as best as I could with no luck. He would throw it probably around 400 feet on his drives with what looked like minimal effort.
    It was so cool to watch but at the same time I'd get a little aggravated internally because he was a smaller guy, probably 5 and a half feet tall and maybe 140 pounds, and he would launch the piss out of his discs, and while I'm not a huge guy, I was a good bit larger than him and I could maybe top out around 275-280 feet on my drives. Of course I knew absolutely nothing about choosing the right discs, so I was buying Destroyers, Bosses, etc. basicaly anything with a speed 10 or above. And since my form is so busted, I cannot generate that loose, whipping motion in my throwing arm necessary for getting the proper speed on my discs.
    About 2 years ago I finally got to the point where I realized as, for as long as I've been playing, I really still haven't improved, sad to say. I still can rarely throw past 300' and my form I know is bad. I started watching a ton of videos, trying to pick up on whatever I could, hoping something would stick, and I'd have that "Aha!" moment where I would figure something out that would drastically improve my throws. While I'm still searching for that tip that will markedly improve my game, I have learned a ton about choosing the right discs for my abilities.
    I've ditched all my high speed stuff and don't really bag anything higher than a speed 8, well other than my Mamba, which is one of the very few distance drivers that actually seems to work well for me. My go to disc I use for driving now is a Teebird, has a fairly flat, predictable flight pattern. I've started to bag more midranges as well. Was using primarily a Buzz and Meteor but had someone tell me the other day I should look into a Mako 3.
    Watched a few videos and just watched yours. I'm now convinced I need this disc in my life. Just ordered a 180g Star Mako 3, can't wait to give it a shot. Seems to be ultra versatile, and the fact that its stable should be the perfect go to disc for me.

    Is that Bower's Park in Tuscaloosa I saw? That's the first place I ever played disc golf back in college! Dying to get back out to that course.
    Question about the disc though, you mention a lot in this video that you're throwing the disc flat, but I'm actually seeing a good bit of hyzer flip even with the less beat-in Champion version. Is that just how you're having to release it in order to get it to flat and not turn?

    I recently lost my Buzzz SS, which was the straightest midrange I ever owned. They're sold out everywhere, so I just got a Mako3 to see if it can fit that role. Can't wait to get it out on the field and try it out!

    • @ClearAlera
      @ClearAlera 3 роки тому +2

      Update - the upside is it's straighter than the Buzzz and super reliable at any speed (the Buzzz could be overpowered and didn't handle headwinds as well). The downside is that the bottom of the disc (at least in star plastic) is really sharp and I had to stop after 15ish throws because it was literally cutting into my finger. The Z-line Buzzz was way more comfortable. Does anyone know if there's a fix for this that won't affect the flight of the disc? Does it just need to get beat in, or is there any sort of sanding I could do to take the razor's edge off?

    • @3chrizzl
      @3chrizzl 2 роки тому +1

      @@ClearAlera Take some fine grit sandpaper and go easy on it. Maybe go up (grit) little by little until it's removed. Or, if you find really really smooth pavement (like brand new), you can put your disc on the ground and spin it with a little pressure. Hope that helps!

    • @ClearAlera
      @ClearAlera 2 роки тому +1

      @@3chrizzl Thanks, I appreciate the advice! Thankfully my Mako is worn in enough now that it doesn't cut anymore. But I will keep this in mind if I get any other discs that are too sharp for me =)

      @@ClearAlera Figured I was 4mo too late! I'm thinking of buying a Mako too, do you love it? I really want to branch out from Innova, but it's hard bc i know their line so well and I'm old school (mostly discraft and Innova)

    • @ClearAlera
      @ClearAlera 2 роки тому

      @@3chrizzl Yeah I sincerely do like the Mako3 - losing the Buzzz turned out to be a happy accident in the end. I got it in the star plastic, and my experience turned out to be the same as pretty much any review you'll see on it. It will hold any line I put it on at any power level that I can throw at, and it has very small fade at the end, making it my most intuitive and reliable disc. The fact that it's so hard to turn/overpower makes it a dependable pick for headwinds too. Once I got past the whole cutting-my-finger-to-bits phase it quickly became my favorite midrange. For reference I'm an intermediate player - my best drives on a good day are 350 feet, so your experience may vary if you can throw harder.

    Looks like it's flipping up quite a bit on the shots described as dead straight. Finishes a bit hard for the numbers as well. I'd call it -2, 1 for turn and fade. 0 0 is some nonsense.

    • @pirjoh6693
      @pirjoh6693 2 роки тому

      Exactly, everyone is saying how the mako3 super straight but sensitive to release. Well I have never had a mid turn so much for so little power released "straight". Used it now for 3 rounds and this is a hyzerflip if you want it to fly straight. Glad to see I wasn't crazy, almost every shot in the video is released on hyzer, even the anhyzer shots flip from hyzer release.

      Depends what mold it is, the champion is the most stable one, i carry star and champ, and the star is way more understable, i throw it from good amount of hyzer to flat and small fade, champion i throw flat and it just flies straight, cant even get to turn it if theres no wind or tailwind, so i can throw it maxium power and it just flies straight the whole time. Star is better for kinda small wooded caps where you need to hyzer flip.
