  • Just Rita Hayworth and Debussy's "Clair de Lune."
I've always loved this composition, especially this orchestral version. It has been featured in a lot of films, including one of my favourites - no, not "Twilight," but "Frankie and Johnny" (1991). :-)
Debussy's composition was inspired by Paul Verlaine's French poem of the same name:
    Translation:
    Moonlight
Your soul is as a moonlit landscape fair,
Peopled with maskers delicate and dim,
That play on lutes and dance and have an air
Of being sad in their fantastic trim.
The while they celebrate in minor strain
    Triumphant love, effective enterprise,
They have an air of knowing all is vain,-
And through the quiet moonlight their songs rise,
The melancholy moonlight, sweet and lone,
That makes to dream the birds upon the tree,
And in their polished basins of white stone
The fountains tall to sob with ecstasy.

No doubt...they were stunning together in Blood and Sand. I mean, one just sits there and watches them in all that glorious color and your mouth just hangs open you are in such awe of these two incredibly beautiful people on the screen. Like the seen where she throws the flowers and he walks up and picks one up and looks at her....OMG! Part of you wants to say "They are not real, no one has ever looked like that". lolol

this is one of my favorite scores of Debussy. And I love this poem. And though I like the poem you have in english... it is not an accurate translation of the poem... But it's still pretty.

    @et7waage1
They all sing in a minor key
Of all-conquering love and careless fortune
They do not seem to believe in their happiness
And their song melts away in the light of the moon.
The still moonlight, sad and beautiful
That gives dreams to the birds in the trees
And makes the fountain cry tears of ecstasy
The tall fountain, slender among the marble statues.

@et7waage1 that is the best I can do. I believe it is extremely accurate and true to it's original meaning. I hope you like it. It is a beautiful poem, rich with symbolism.

@et7waage1 I will have to do it in three parts b/c of the character restrictions
Your soul is choicest of countries
Where charming masked and costumed figures go
Playing the lute and dancing and almost
    Sad beneath their fantastic disguises.

    @tickledpink2U I can't believe I spelled "scene" as "seen".......too funny.

  • @CharChoui

@et7waage1 I appreciate that it is tough to translate things and keep it really. I didn't think it was your translation. And I'm no great translator but it really doesn't sound like the same poem. Sorry! Please, I mean no disrespect, but because I would like you to see what the real words are to this poem, perhaps I will take a stab at translating it for you.
