  • The Panama Metro (Spanish: Metro de Panamá) is a rapid transit system in Panama City, Panama, which links the north and east sides of the metropolitan area to the city center. It was inaugurated on April 5, 2014, and entered revenue service two weeks later.
    It was built to relieve the traffic congestion between the city and San Miguelito District, and to offer commuters a viable alternative to road transport, as the Metrobus transport system is suffering multiple issues.
    The Metro operates seven days a week and 365 days a year: Monday-Friday 05:00-23:00, Saturday 05:00-22:00 and on Sunday and holidays 07:00-22:00.
    The Panama Metro is part of a major "National Master Plan" to improve transportation in Panama City and the west side of the country, which includes the construction of three more metro lines and a light rail line. It consists of two lines. The 15.8-kilometer (9.8 mi) line one, serves fourteen stations, with a fifteenth station planned. Line two, opened partially and temporarily on January 14 to 17, 2019 for the week of the World Youth Day and completely on April 24 of the same year, covers a 21-kilometer (13 mi) route and serves sixteen stations, with San Miguelito being the interchange station for both lines ~Wikipedia

    This is so similar to my hometown's new line (Guadalajara line 3) except our trains are shorter (the same model but with 3 segments instead of 5) and the stations look a bit more modern. Otherwise it is really similar, with elevated and underground segments just like Panama's.

    1:10 Impressive skyline. And the ship on the canal was a nice touch. Open gangways, super quiet inside. The arch-roofed outdoor stations are beautiful; underground stations very plain-vanilla. And the overhead: not catenary but metal I-beam. I wonder why. Unusual?

    • @alaindumas1824
      @alaindumas1824 2 роки тому +5

      Metal I-beam is more costly initially but requires less maintenance than a catenary. It is more commonly seen in tunnels where one can easily instal the supports needed to carry the extra weight.

    Tim, It would be nicer than the trains we have since we don't have one that comes to our area. Orlando has SunRail. Miami has one that they are hooking up to Orlando. We don't have rail service in much of Florida. Certainly not where we live. Awesome video. Thank you.

      Lived in Orlando for 16 years now and I have no idea what you're talking about, there's no Metro in Orlando. There is a heavy rail train line, SunRail, but no Metro. Miami does though have one.
