Having had a loved one brutally murdered, I can say that every tiny drop of information you get is worth the price you pay (emotionally and financially) to get it! Over the months and years, every drop of info provides a piece of the puzzle and a sense of getting closer to the closure you seek. Sometimes, that search, is all you have to keep you alive. Thankfully, most people are never put in the position that the families of murder victims are.

I’m sorry but if my son came home in his fiancées vehicle without her… how can you not know anything??? They contacted Bertilino right after BL came back. That may be true if they didn't do anything specific to obstruct justice. Remember Aiden Fucci's mother washed his bloodied pants, and she's being charged with tampering with evidence or obstructing justice. So I don't think it's a matter of them being his parents as much as the fact that they haven't been identified by a prosecutor as having tampered with evidence or obstructed justice. This is a civil case and it's more about intentional infliction of emotional distress.

Because their feet have never been held to the fire. They've never been asked the hard questions like why did it take them over two weeks to file a missing person's report if they were "desperate, distressed and frantic"? Why would they call the Laundries ( if they truly did) and not law enforcement? It doesn't add up.
And we have to remember, the FBI investigated the Laundries and closed the case with no charges filed. Everything the Petito's are alleging isn't necessarily fact. People are just assuming it is. I personally think they are betting on public outrage to secure them a win because their case has holes in it.

Calling the Laundries, who supposedly weren't answering their phone instead of law enforcement, and now they're suing the Laundries for not returning their calls?

I know this is not legal jargon but I feel that by living in the Laundries home that Gabby was exposed to dysfunction and that the parents were privy to Brian’s domestic abuse and did not step in. Gabby went on this trip with Brian to perhaps get away from the Laundries and start a new, thinking that a different environment would be the cure. When in domestic violence one bargains for change believing that the abuse will stop. Gabby so young to navigate and had no support because she was not at the stage to admit the abuse was happening to leave. She was groomed to think that all was her fault. Clearly set forth in the police tape. The Laundries are going to have to show who they really are by this proceeding and this is what the Petito family is looking for by way of accountability and to expose this family for their neglect and oddities. The Laundries need to be held accountable as they acted in neglectful cruelty and self-centeredness. The deaths of Gabby and Brian could have been prevented if nipped at the bud by the police and more importantly the Laundries. So tragic…..

It's not about closure. There is never closure when you lose a child. It's about people being held accountable and responsible. That first week Brian was back home and Gabby's parents were worried about the kids (both kids), as they hadn't heard from them, the Petito's continually called the Laundrie's and they ignored their calls and texts. Why? Why would anyone ignore frantic calls from concerned parents of a child who had been living with them? There is only one reason to ignore those pleading calls ... it's because they didn't know what to say. Any innocent person would have just picked up the phone and said yeah the kids got in a fight and Brian came home and Gabby went on to visit friends. If that is what Brian supposidly told them, then they would have just told the Petito's that from the very beginning. But they ignored the Petito's calls because they knew the truth and were scared and did not know what to say to them. That is guilt. They should absolutely be charged for aiding and abetting.

I wouldn't want them to just walk into the sunset with their "we are grieving too" statement, either.
If they had taken their son to the nearest police station their son would be alive and they would have spared the Petito's of 1 month of living hell
Even if they don't win the trial at least the Laundries they are not spending their money on beach front camping get aways. I think that is what Gabby's family ultimately want, to make their lives hard for as long as they can. They deserve it.

Gabby Petito's parents not only lost their child, they were also robbed of their deserved swift justice and closure because the murderer's parents helped cover for him as he ran.
I am so glad this case was not dropped, I don't know why so many people argue that parents should be able to help cover up crimes for their child and should not face any consequences. You became an accomplice to his crimes by helping him run from justice and deserve to pay for that in damages. Especially because it is a civil case and the burden is much lower and I hope damages are massive so being an accomplice to cover for a murder is not the first choice going forward.
Let's be clear here, they didn't just make a simple statement about not knowing where there son was, they wrote a novel when talking to the other parents over weeks.

I don't think Mr. Petito & Ms. Schmidt are expecting closure directly from any of the things they may be able to find out in their suit. I think they just need to exhaust every possibility to get answers about what happened to Gabby so they can allow themselves to stop looking for such answers. Perhaps after they've used every possible avenue to find out everything they can about the death of their daughter, they'll be able to begin to heal. Sometimes ones brain won't let one stop until one has done ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING...

My heart aches for the Petitos but I am almost certain they are going to be highly disappointed. I don’t believe they are going to get the answers they are searching for-or the answers they do get most likely won’t be good enough. unfortunately, I just don’t see them getting that closure.
I feel horrible for both sets of parents. What happened simply shouldn’t have happened. & they both suffered an unimaginable loss.
Unfortunately the one who is actually responsible for this murder is not here to be held accountable- had he been arrested I doubt the Laundries would be going through this right now. The Petitos want to hold someone responsible- so the parents it is.

I hope it’ll become a case precedent! I honestly don’t feel what appears to be the parents’ covering up for their son, should go ignored. Especially, given everything seems to point to the fact they darn well knew … the son should have faced consequences for his actions and not been allowed to take the easy way out.
Nobody is going to win from this but to have a repeat scenario will be a tragedy. Perhaps if they hit below the belt … finances … people will think twice before sheltering their children from horrific actions. It’s like they said Gabby didn’t deserve justice!
I think the cops screwed up royally, which is typical …. It that all cops are bad but they’re few and far between it seems, with what we hear on an ongoing basis! I don’t mean not just after her murder … but when they were first called about the witnessed physical argument. I think the cops made a snap judgement and didn’t do their job by following protocol with abused victims. Gabby probably would be alive today, if they had done their job. I find a lot of cops are so unversed when it comes to domestic abuse.
It’ll still be a lose/lose for everyone … so many were hurt by his temper to lash out at Gabby like he did, even his parents being put in this difficult situation … however, they made some bad choices though!

Really suprised this case has got this far. It's so sad, both families have lost their children in dreadful circumstances, the amount of stress and distress they have all felt is unimaginable - this legal action only causes more of the same, and more pain. I understand the P's would like answers, but this won't bring her back. They are angry, of course, but they are lashing out at the only target left available. It is v interesting how they are suing for intentional emotional distress and in the process causing more of this. They hurt and want the Laundries to also, but the Laundries are already hurting too - it's not going to leave them feeling any better - quite the opposite. A hateful heart can not heal. I don't agree with this case at all. It's v disappointing no one has stepped in to stop this to protect both parties. The Laundries followed their legal advice. The police investigated and decided they were not complicit - hence no charges.

They were treated extremely poorly during the search for Gabby.
