When I first heard this song in 2008, I immediately fell in love with it. It sounded a little different in the movie, but both performances are good. I actually teared up a bit because of the nostalgia and his performance, so good.
It's great to see someone react to his stuff, since many foreigners don't know about many of the great singers like him and many others that were huge before 2010, technically they still are, just not singing in anymore movies. I know him and Shreya (love her) still have songs in newer movies, yet many new people to Bollywood in the last 5 years don't know him, which is sad since he has such a unique and amazing voice.
You can also give "Channa by Atif Aslam, Coke Studio" a try. It's one of his most underrated songs yet a masterpiece.

I loved the days when there was less religious discrimination and this guy would regular in bollywood songs
It's not due to religious discrimination but cross border terrorism that led to deteriorated ties between the two countries. Indians appreciate art from all religions and traditions. For god's sake, the Indian cinema was/is ruled by three khans for decades now. However, you cannot appreciate art and sports when your people are bombed and killed in open fire by people originating from the other soil.
Transition of Atif voice was what made him unique and standout in his previous band called #jal, which he left. My brother's friend and my office colleague both were in that music band in city #lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Jal members were angry why he left in early 2000s and now we know why he left,..... To shine out in late 2000s.. !! 😀
