  • Matti Friedman, a renowned Israeli journalist and author, will discuss his book Who By Fire, which explores songwriter Leonard Cohen’s reflections on Israel during the Yom Kippur War. Friedman will delve into Cohen’s experiences and perspectives from touring the country and performing for Israelis during wartime after a surprise attack, and how the memory of that moment resonates with our current challenges. The evening will also feature a musical performance by Rabbi Angela Buchdahl. Copies of Who By Fire will be available for purchase.
As we have learned together over the past year, it’s crucial that we stay informed and engaged with the diverse experiences of those directly affected by the ongoing conflict in Israel. This fall, Central Synagogue will once again be bringing you unique perspectives from Israelis navigating these challenging times, starting with our September three-part series, Inside Israel: Conflict, Memory, and Faith.
