  • Stingray FPV Drone Update: Now that all the underwater thrusters are hooked up to the electronic speed controllers, I’m programming my transmitter controls. The next step for me will be to build a test fixture with a tank of water to calculate the combined thrust output underwater as well as the current draw for battery life calculations.

    I love the idea of a little floating (but obviously waterproof) radio pod bobbing away on the surface.

    Not sure how i missed this video but ya the gasket is a great idea. I love when you are able to use highly optimized products from one industry for other more creative applications. Water seal tends to be the hardest thing with these ROVs. Also, water sealing for the cable is a bitch. Water likes to travel down inside the cable if you don't seal the ends well enough.

    I see the gaps between the blades of the props and the housing are very large, and on air drones they are very close. Has flow simulation been done to find the 'best' gap? That's interesting. I know that a closer gap on the air ones is better for overall use, but the much higher density/viscosity/reosity (I can never remember which one it is) would change it... Interesting. Oh, I suppose that in air you won't get a stick/seaweed in your prop either. Ahh, the gap might have more than one function!

    Nice gasket. I am sure you going to seal that thing well. But have you thought of using a conformal coating on the electronics just in case? I have used MG Chemicals - 422C-55MLCA 422C Silicone on some ESC's because it has that flexibility when parts heat up. Just a random thought. Cant wait to see this one completed and running.

    • @ProtoG42
      @ProtoG42  3 роки тому +1

      Yes! I planned on on using large clear heatshrink tubing I have for the escs and then sealing the ends with e6000 or rtv but I may take the camera apart and use a conformal coating on that board just in case.

      I have used that conformal coating great stuff. Not fully water proof but great for swarf

    Hello, I have a concern because I am Trying to build an automated underwater drone. So, naturally, the first part consists of making a drone. when using the left joystick, the vertical axis controls the speed of the motors? if so, how? and how does it steer? does the leftmost position of the joystick make only the right proproller work while the left stops, in order to turn right?
    I apologize if my question was not as clear as it could have been and any clarification would go a long way thank you

    How many ampere of ESC do you recommend for 16800 rpm 3-blade propeller with an operating voltage of 6-9 volts?
    Ps. I'm just a student making a device in lined with underwater drone, limited knowledge when it comes to this. Thank you!

      @@ProtoG42 I know there has to be one for the transceiver. I was wondering about some extra power for the drone, transmitted through the tether. May at a later stage if needed.

    I planning to buy 2 of this underwater motor and install it under ( fins) my inflatable kayak. Do you think its good enough to move the kayak with a weight of 150 lbs? Can i use a regular 12v car battery with on of switch? Thanks...

    Why no motors for rolling the the drone?

    • @ProtoG42
      @ProtoG42  3 роки тому +1

      Rolling isn’t necessary as the wings and buoyancy will stabilize the path underwater. There are a few other examples out there of underwater drones with only three motors like this. I would like to design a larger version with more motors one day.

    These thrusters claim full waterproof even in seawater but they are quite expensive, $146 cdn each, plus shipping. I know from experience that the average brushless motor will not hold up even in fresh water. The bearings get rusty and fail. In salt water forget it. Bilge pump motors seem a better budget choice. Take off pump and install props.

    • @ProtoG42
      @ProtoG42  8 місяців тому

      They not average brushless motors. They are sealed with a potting compound and do work in salt and freshwater. It cost me $50 USD and 1 day shipping. 🫡🇺🇸
