I live in the UK and actually bought one of these from a Dealer for only £100 back in 1983. It was a bit tatty, but was complete. Just gave it a re-paint, new seat cover, replaced the head gaskets, and centre stand, as the old one had no foot lever. And ended up with quite a good bike. When I think of what these old bikes are selling for now, I wished that I had kept it.
The one that got away. I've got several bikes that I regret selling, and you're right. The current market makes it really hard to find good deals to by back some of these old beauties.
One small detail: in the USA this is a 1975 model, and I believe the same is true for Canada... in 1977, this was the last year of the GT series and in that year they have the black headlight shell and headlight ears, as well as satin finish side covers on the frame. But no worries - as I mentioned, this is my favorite year for the GT550 and you did a great job on the video! Thank you for posting! Cheers!

I had a '77 GT-550 that was my last 2-stroke bike. I traded it in for the '78 GS1000 when the dealer in the small town where I was stationed in the USAF finally got on in stock. The 550 was a great bike and this one was my second. I had a green '73 in high school. I would love to find one to put back into shape.
I wish I did. It was stolen from the apartment complex where I was living at the time. I actually heard it fire up but by the time I got down to where I had it parked it was gone gone gone. Even worse, the GS1000S that I bought as a replacement was stolen as well, 3 weeks after I bought it. They cut the chain that I used to secure the bike to the parking space cover posts. That really bummed me out.
Gorgeous bike - my favorite year and color for these bikes! I am a Suzuki fan, collector, and rider - I have a GT-750, GT-380, GT-250, GT-185, so I need a GT-550 to complete my collection! - please let me know if you ever want to sell it to a good loving home! Cheers!

Since I wrote last, I bought a sweet 1975 Black/Gold GT550... loving it and now my "GT-Series is complete! I also have a complete RG-Series (RG50, RG125, RG150, RG200, RG250, RGV250 VJ-21, RGV250 VJ-22, and the RG500)! As far as the "T-Series", I have an A100 (kind of a "T" style), teh X6, and a T500... working on a T125 Stinger, but in no hurry! Cheers!
I noticed Ontario plates, I live in Ontario and have constantly searched marketplace and kijiji all over Ontario for years looking for good condition big 2 stroke bikes. Where do you find these gems??

Good eye! A lot of these are a matter of right place in the right time, but there is no substitute for networking with local enthusiasts.

I never had yellowing on my stock headers the easiest bike to tune.
