My first read of 2024 was a five star with Ravensong by TJ klune, so good to start off on such a high. Steve Cavanagh is one of my insta buys! All his books are twisty and page turning. Need to get to this one since its already out in my country.
Kill for me kill for you is on my list. I read my first book of the year which was only a 3 sadly. The nowhere child by Christian white was just okay. And then my next book please tell me by Mike Omer was a 2 star. So so far not so great but it’s all good I know there will be some great books here soon with all the releases coming up
Happy New Year, Gaby! The first book I read in 2024 was a 4-star for me. I read, "Love and Other Words" by Christina Lauren. I'm excited to read "Kill for me, kill for you" in March!
My first read of the year was Shark Heart, gave it 4 stars. Also finished Bright Young Women for Book Troop and it was a 5 star read!!! So I am starting off with bangers this year 😁 So excited for winterween!!
I'm figuring my first read of 2024, I might try to read a classic book from the 1980s. Something fun and trashy.. just to get the brain working :) When you were talking about Expiration Date and how the author kept mentioning Los Angeles... I kept flashing to Kyle Richards of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fame whose tagline always mentions how she lives in Beverly Hills.
Your vlogs always make my day, I love them so much!!! My first read of the year was The One by John Marrs and I gave it 4 stars which is a big improvement from my first year if last year which was a DNF 😂 AHHHHH The Break Up Tour!!!
I cannot wait for your Goodreads review on Expiration Dates. I have no interest in reading it, so I need to know about it! Also - I gave In Five Years 5 stars and gave One Italian Summer 3 stars, and now I’m questioning if I really loved In Five Years 😂
Gabby, so glad you got 2 good reads after the 2 stinkers. Hot tip for ya -- another booktuber raved about another Steve Cavanagh book that just arrived in the mail for me, so I haven't read it yet, but it's called "Thirt3en" and the tag line is "The serial killer isn't on trial. He's on the jury". She said it's really good! Thanks for vlogging, it's cool you traveled and spent time with your friend and her family. That Chinese restaurant sounds amazing. This was a lot of fun to watch!
@@gabbyreads Very cool that you've read it. Glad to get your endorsement of the book as well. I can confidently go ahead with reading it knowing it will be good! Thanks for responding!
My first read of the year was Ruthless Vows and I’m currently reading our Bookclub: Bright Young women and I’m halfway through it and I’m enjoying it so much so far!!❤ Oh no!! I was so excited for The Band since I’m Army as well but with your review I don’t think I’m going to enjoy it at all 🥲 But I’m so glad you loved Kill For Me Kill for you! Definitely adding it to my tbr 🎉 Btw the vibes of the vlog are immaculate love the rainy weather and the winter vibes 😍
I just finished my arc of between the blue by nikki witt its a hockey romance n when i tell i sobbed readin this book like sobbed n this book comes out January 10th and im also lookin forward to reading house of flame and shadow which comes out January 30th n right now im in the middle of rereading a court of thorns and roses
Ahhh that sucks about Expiration Dates. I picked up her book In Five Years completely on a whim (I DON'T read romance, so there really was no reason for me to pick it up, but something about it called to me) and it was a smash hit for me. Unfortunately I then picked up One Italian Night and it was ROUUGGHHHH. Thinking she may be a one-hit wonder for me...
Will definitely be checking out the thriller! When I hear you pretty much pan a book, I'm thinking, "Oh, end of the year least favorite books, probably" LOL
I just read Pride and Prejudice on audiobook which is crazy for me because I never read classics or listen to audiobooks. Such an unexpected start to the year :)
The first book I completed in 2024 was Good Girls Don't Die because I chose Xbox over my goodreads goal on New Year's 😅 I gave it 3.5. The first two parts were fun and interesting but part 3 was a little ridiculous and the reveal was pretty stupid. Christina Henry's books read like satire to me and I can't tell if that's on purpose
My first read was The Unfortunate Side Effects of Heartbreak and Magic. It was good but I was hoping to start the year with a 4 or 5 star read not a 3. My second book was a 3 too!
I grew up in the Torrance area and totally hated LA but then I moved into the city and ngl, it is probably as amazing as the book makes it out to be 😂😂 especially as a film lover
my first read of 2024 was There’s Someone Inside Your House h Stephanie Perkins which had a lot of potential but fell a little flat for me. But i followed it up with Yellowface and I reallyyyy loved that one
Not a book, but I read the first volume of a manga called Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. I flew through the anime version over New Years. Its sooo good. Besr anime ive seen in years.
Oh no you didn’t like expiration dates!? I was looking forward to reading that lol. I gave one Italian summer 5 stars. My 1st read was found: an anthology of found footage horror stories and I gave it 4/5. So far so good 👍
Kill For Me Kill For You sounds so good! I'm going to have to check that one out. I'm still working on my first read of the year because I picked up The Priory of the Orange Tree, so that's going... slowly 😂but might also be picking up A History of Fear soon!
Rebecca Serle was a one and done for me with One Italian Summer. That book pissed me off more than most any other book I've read in the last couple years. Also lol One Italian Summer barely takes place in LA for just the beginning and the amount of obnoxious LA-specific detail in that short amount of time makes me only IMAGINE how bad it is in Expiration Dates lol
My first read of the year was Lola in the Mirror by Trent Dalton. Highly highly reccommend, honestly could be my fave of 2024. Would love to see you read it Gabby and hear your thoughts!!
I'm kinda glad I am not alone with some lower rated reads at the beginning of the year! My first book was 2 stars and I'm finding my second just okay. You had me laughing with the line about the guy and the pasta. I thought One Italian Summer was just okay too and I didn't like the cheating in it but it's ok because it was in an alt universe lol.
Hi hi! As a Kpop fan, I too am always looking out for books that have to do with Kpop and I was wondering if you've heard of a book called "Comeback" by Lyn Ashwood and Rachel Rose. I will say I think this is a YA and I know you don't read a lot of YA, but I've heard good things about this book and thought I'd mention it if you wanted to give it a shot! Love your videos!
Oh god ! I don't whether it my institution or what but as soon as you narrated the story of the book expiration i kind of felt the book is not going be good😅😅😅.
I read One Italian Summer last year and it was one of my worst books of the year. The FMC was just the most horrible, toxic person and I could barely stand it even though Lauren Graham was the audiobook narrator. Like how do you fumble that so terribly???? I was thinking of giving the author a second chance but hearing you talk about Expiration Dates, I know I'm going to pass HARD.
Also this wasn't even the entire reason I hated the book (because there were so many) but one thing that really ticked me off was how crap the book read to someone who has lost their mom to cancer. The main character reeks of a toxic attachment to her mother and an only child mindset to the point where her "grief" only reads selfishly. Like the MC was shocked to find out her mom had a life separate from her existence and it's not sweet or sentimental. the whole time I was reading it I was incredibly irritated with how violating it felt to read the book, I don't know how else to describe that mother/daughter situation. Like I cannot emphasize enough how traumatic it would be IRL to have lost my mom and then encounter her over and over again KNOWING she is dead. Then I looked up after the book to see if the author had actually lost her mom and no, her mom is alive and well and very part of her life like a "best friend" from the looks of social media and it was just mildly offensive.
I had a feeling The Band wasn't going to be great because I haven't had any success with any kpop related books so far. My guess is that the genre is just too niche at the moment
Your opinion of the female main character reminds me of Happy Place by Emily Henry. I really liked the book, but I took off a star for the attitude of the characters. They seemed so self centered. Also reminded me of an older movie called The Big Chill.
nooooooo not the LA slander. people love criticizing LA but we get every single kpop tour, you can find authentic cuisine from dozens of different cultures, and we have sunshine all winter.
I'm originally from CA (Bay Area), and agree, LA is not that great. 🤣🤣 Ooof, I have an ARC of that and am 😬😬 now. If I hate it I might be done with her- I loved In Five Years, but hated One Italian Summer... Heartstopper #5 was my first read of 2024. I wanted to start with something I KNEW I was gonna love!
Your whole rant about California had me dying. I also live in Washington around Seattle and I've been down there a million times....and I much prefer it up here lol
Wait it says u are reading your first ONE STAR BOOK of the year?? What's the deal with that?? So u normally pick one star books?? Is it something u do or ... Idk please explain.......I'm new here😂
like... I read a book and it happened to be a one-star hahaha, I rated the book after I finished reading it, but I mentioned it being a one star in the video title
I refuse to read Rebecca Serle after In Five Years aka the most depressing poorly written book ever I really don't get the hype around her. I'm not trying to hate I've just never understood.
yesss Kill for Me Kill for You!! 👏🏻 i also read it and gave 4.5 stars! i’ve been shouting from the rooftops how everyone needs to read it in 2024!
My MOST anticipated read for 24. CanNOT wait!!!
Ahhh I’m so glad you loved it too!!! ❤
The intro and music gave me so much peace and idk why lol
My first book of the year was a 5 star which was amazing it’s called “ A Woman is no man” almost done with my second book of the year
My first read of 2024 was a five star with Ravensong by TJ klune, so good to start off on such a high.

When you were talking about Expiration Date and how the author kept mentioning Los Angeles... I kept flashing to Kyle Richards of Real Housewives of Beverly Hills fame whose tagline always mentions how she lives in Beverly Hills.
My first read of the year was never lie by Freida McFadden, and I know other people didn't like it, but I was genuinely thrilled!
I loved this one too! :)
Me too! Just read what you like, not what others say ❤
Your vlogs always make my day, I love them so much!!! My first read of the year was The One by John Marrs and I gave it 4 stars which is a big improvement from my first year if last year which was a DNF 😂 AHHHHH The Break Up Tour!!!
Running to goodreads to read your spoiler review!
I actually read kill for me kill for you as my first book of the year and I really liked it 😊
I was sooo excited for expiration dates but not so much anymore omg!!
I cannot wait for your Goodreads review on Expiration Dates. I have no interest in reading it, so I need to know about it! Also - I gave In Five Years 5 stars and gave One Italian Summer 3 stars, and now I’m questioning if I really loved In Five Years 😂
I gave those two books the same rating! 😅 In Five Years is still one of my all time favorite!
I posted it over there now 😂🫢
Gabby, so glad you got 2 good reads after the 2 stinkers. Yes, I read Thirteen a few years ago and really enjoyed it!! 😊
@@gabbyreads Very cool that you've read it. Glad to get your endorsement of the book as well. I can confidently go ahead with reading it knowing it will be good! Thanks for responding!
Heartstopper was my first read of the year too! How fun.
Me Immediately going to good reads to read the spoilers 😂
😂😂😂
Thank you for your opinion on the band. I was looking at that because it had bts vibes but I can safely cross that off the list.
My first read of the year was Ruthless Vows and I’m currently reading our Bookclub: Bright Young women and I’m halfway through it and I’m enjoying it so much so far!!❤
Oh no!! I was so excited for The Band since I’m Army as well but with your review I don’t think I’m going to enjoy it at all 🥲
But I’m so glad you loved Kill For Me Kill for you! Definitely adding it to my tbr 🎉
Btw the vibes of the vlog are immaculate love the rainy weather and the winter vibes 😍

Ahhh that one is on my TBR! 😍

Your jacket is so cute!!
My first read was Yellowface. Really enjoyed it
I just finished my arc of between the blue by nikki witt its a hockey romance n when i tell i sobbed readin this book like sobbed n this book comes out January 10th and im also lookin forward to reading house of flame and shadow which comes out January 30th n right now im in the middle of rereading a court of thorns and roses
tank's pajamas 😭😭😭 also i was going to give rebecca serle a second chance with expiration dates but this review made me remove it from my tbr lol
Haha yeah I would not recommend reading it 😅
Ahhh that sucks about Expiration Dates. I am loving Noah Kahan. I got the CD for Christmas and have been listening to it nonstop in my car.
Will definitely be checking out the thriller! When I hear you pretty much pan a book, I'm thinking, "Oh, end of the year least favorite books, probably" LOL
First read was How High We Go in the Dark! Five stars
ivy supremacy!!!!
I’m in the middle of reading Motherthing and The Burning God, and I’m rereading The Charm Offensive. Not sure which I’ll be finishing first!
first read for me was untamed by glennon doyle, had me in tears!! 😭
I just read Pride and Prejudice on audiobook which is crazy for me because I never read classics or listen to audiobooks. Such an unexpected start to the year :)
I'm so glad you saved my money on buying Expiration dates! Honestly don't think I would've survived 😂
Yeah it sounds pretty bad 😂
I want to read the break up tour so bad!!
The first book I completed in 2024 was Good Girls Don't Die because I chose Xbox over my goodreads goal on New Year's 😅 I gave it 3.5. 🤣🤣Your comment about the pasta line made me laugh
Guys, Steve Cavanagh is a KING of thrillers. If you haven’t read any of his books, please do so.
Same haha Torrance was where I grew up I couldn’t stand it 😂
Love the little intro
Thank you!! 👏
I am in the middle of Last Days by Adam Nevill and Verity by Colleen Hoover which I’m buddy reading with my mom! I’m enjoying them both so far
Great vlog. 📚☕❄️
my first read of 2024 was There’s Someone Inside Your House h Stephanie Perkins which had a lot of potential but fell a little flat for me. But i followed it up with Yellowface and I reallyyyy loved that one

My first read was Intercepts by T. J Payne and it was a really good 4 star read for me! A short sci fi horror and was definitely an interesting read!
Kill For Me Kill For You sounds so good! I'm going to have to check that one out. I'm still working on my first read of the year because I picked up The Priory of the Orange Tree, so that's going... slowly 😂but might also be picking up A History of Fear soon!
My first was My Darling Girl and it got 2 stars. Let’s hope it gets better from here.

Mikey 7 is a sci fi that you might like, if you haven't read it before. It has Andy Weir vibes!
My first read of the year will be There Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. I think it’s going to be a 4 or 5 stars.
You should check out Once Upon a K-Prom by Kat Cho and XOXO by Axie Oh if you want more k-pop books!
The ballad of songbirds and snakes is what I’m slowly reading through until I get my camera from my bf cuz I plan to make a channel

Oh no, not the best start to the reading year 😅 My first book was This Charming Man, a very funny paranormal mystery
Cacio e Pepe literally translates to cheese and pepper. Cacio e Pepe is whatever Italian dish with just cheese and pepper… 🌶️
I started the year off with smutty books and have had all 4 or higher ratings 🎉 no 5 stars yet!
Captivating

Oh god ! I don't whether it my institution or what but as soon as you narrated the story of the book expiration i kind of felt the book is not going be good😅😅😅.
My first read this year was The Appeal, and I absolutely loved it! Felt like I was snooping through my neighbours texts and emails 😂🤓
I read One Italian Summer last year and it was one of my worst books of the year. YES. COULD NOT AGREE MORE. THIS BOOK MADE ME SO ANGRY.

Gabby i must must recommend you to read shalini boland books to read❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Your whole rant about California had me dying. I also live in Washington around Seattle and I've been down there a million times....and I much prefer it up here lol
Hope Tank is doing better
my first read of 2024 was a 2 star so it wasnt great for me

I am sorry. Thats a bummer! I don't like Gnocchi either
Gabby, you can spoil Expiration Dates for me. I can guarantee that I will not read the book.
I refuse to read Rebecca Serle after In Five Years aka the most depressing poorly written book ever I really don't get the hype around her. I'm not trying to hate I've just never understood.
Google how to pronounce Gnocchi. haha.
Play the guitar a little bit love your videos
Ooof, I would not like Expiration Dates based on your rants about it. Seems like the main character is a pick me girl.
