  • I passed my local entry track (maybe intentionally) on the way home and finally had enough time free in my day to actually turn in and have a play around.
Figured you guys would like to see the results 😁
You might recognise these spots from the Honda. I'm just testing out and setting a baseline for the Jack at the moment.
A big difference between the two immediately is the LSD in the rear of the Jack and the low-range gearing. In terms of off-road traction, I definitely feel the difference, though surprisingly the low-end speed and control is for sure what I need, of that I have no doubt.

Funny coincidence that I originally found your channel because I was wanting to mod my 2nd gen CR-V. Then I ended up setting my eyes on getting a Trooper, only to find that you got yourself one now!
I'm jealous since I haven't had much luck finding one in decent condition for the right price yet, but I'm excited to see what you do with yours!

      I love mine so far.
A few things I miss from my CR-V, namely just the ingenious space management, and honestly I feel the CR-V is a little comfier as a driver, but for a 4x4 the Trooper is amazing.
Just got wait it out - I looked at hundreds of ads before I found this one - one you get it, you'll be happy as. 3.5L or 3.1L only though! And a good trans cooler if auto!

@@isakjetbean I honestly do miss the CR-V just for how well it handled everything, general utility and of course the table.
I've upgraded to a 2001 XJ that I'm building for now until I eventually find my unicorn 4x4.
I nearly snagged myself a turbodiesel JDM Trooper not long ago, but unfortunately they didn't have a huge market here in Canada so promising units are few and far between.

@@RatboyKawasaki I don't think I could ever let my CRV go. I'd wager eventually I'll take the plates off and only even take it places on a trailer, but these days it's still too cruisy on the road to make that change.
I'd be willing to bet up in snowy Canada you also have to worry about rust a lot more than myself.
Xj's are sick, I've never been a big Jeep guy but always had a spot for a small few models. Absolute weapons, even if not the most comfy on road

@@isakjetbean Rest assured he went to a good home, someone that was just as excited about it as I originally was!
Rust is definitely a big problem around here, considering the only Trooper I've checked out in person had more spray foam in the rockers than actual metal...
I'm by no means a Jeep guy but the XJ's have that boxy charm and a very solid community. Solid axles definitely don't make it the most comfy bumping along but it's genuinely so much fun to cruise around in, and especially once I get the lift installed and take it on some trails.

    Love a Jack!
What is that repetitive knocking noise though?

Just crap in the car 😅 I had 3 tripods, a hard hat and some light stands knocking around back there. This was a SUPER impromptu "I'm passing through and can't resist" kinda run.

Thanks for the reply. Spur of the moment trips are the best trips! “Wonder where that goes?” and half an hour later you’re in low range squeezing between trees up a hill in the middle of nowhere 😂

    Nice Jack/Trooper...
I'm a veteran when it comes to the Isuzu. Have had 2 x first Gen. A 1998 3.5 petrol, a 2000 3.5 petrol and a 98 diesel. Yes I'm a bit of a fan. Awesome vehicles if kept and maintained correctly. The diesel is a bit of hit and miss with the injectors/seal issues. I'm currently driving a super clean RD7 CRV AWD. I absolutely love it, currently modding it for off-road/touring.

The 3L Diesel is exactly what pushed me to staying with a petrol daily - I honestly couldn't be happier with the 3.5L - just need to whack a catch can and a trans temp gauge and happy days.
I just gave it a bit of love over the last few days, adjusted the steering - heavy duty widetrack tie rods sitting on the shelf waiting for the rest of the widetrack conversion.
The 2nd gen CR-V's are so appealing to me, still owning my RD1. That said, I can't get past how much they changed the body - I love it but I'm forever a 1st gen lover!
Now if we could import the Element, that's a different story... boy I wanted one so badly, if I could import it to Aus (not legal here for some reason) I probably wouldn't have the Jack.

@@isakjetbean the first thing I did on my later Jack's is change the auto trans fluid., Very fiddly as no dip stick but there is a service bulletin on it, the fluids must be at a certain temp.
Love them, but there starting to get rare( the good ones) I took one of them to the Cape, it went like a Bullet, no issues. Just bloody red dirt everywhere, took ages to get out of interior.
You will enjoy the ride. They are a solid truck.
