A $110 pump chuck is not for everyone, few things are. For those who are pumping tires daily, if not many daily, the little details become 'big' details. This is why the Silca Ultimate pump and hiro chuck were born: Zipp wheel testing. I have used many pumps over the years, some professionally, others at home. None impressed me after a month or so of use until the Silca Ultimate with this Hiro chuck. I bring it to all the races and people love using it. It doesn't degrade. This chuck uses a metal wave washer to tension the compression mechanism. It's super simple, durable, and easy to replace in 20 years or whatever. Silca will have the part. The gasket is the same, simple, available always. That's what the $110 buys: flawless performance for your lifetime of riding and perhaps that of your kids too. We can't all afford the outlay, but if I were to choose between this and a dinner and drinks, I'd go with the Hiro, no brainer.
Many years later since this conversation first occurred, a couple of things have changed. First, Silca altered the construction of them to produce more cost effectively. They are still remarkably expensive though. The local wholesaler will sell you one and if you wait for a sale, you can score a decent discount. Mine has the square thumb lock and I believe its the V1, carved from billet by gnomes who moved over from Italy when Josh bought the name. Or whatever the case might be. I've attached it to a Ryobi inflator (battery powered pump to you and me) which has a digital readout and inflating tires has never been as epic. In all seriousness though it is the king of pump heads and well worth having if you want ease of use and like nice things. 30 years from now it will still work just fine and you'll have forgotten how much it cost and most likely what you had for breakfast as well. 👍
It's called a track pump as it can go beyond 200psi and that was in line with the Continental Olympic track singles that needed to be pumped up that high a pressure. You never pump up road tires to that PSI.
First I've heard of the inrng linking... that's cool. But it's also out of date.... I've done follow ups on the 5.20 firmware update that has resolved a lot of the touchscreen issues, if not all of them, that I've encountered. It's nice to have content featured.. but it'd be a lot better and more informative for the reader if there was a collaboration prior. In this instance I'd have pointed INRNG to the 5.20 firmware updates and they'd have been able to mention updating to 5.20 or later should help the user experience of owning an Edge 820 unit.
Classy lil pump attachment... too expensive for my blood, but I have a terrible track pump... this video inspires me to finally get a halfway decent one.

For track singles that required much higher pressure you'd need a "Track Pump". A track pump could be used instead of a frame pump, but if you needed a track pump, a frame pump was useful only for beating the poor sod who forgot to bring a track pump. Silca are the duck's guts, that head is seriously cool
I use the toe method. hahaha. joking aside, I really hate throwing away nice floor pumps when the o-ring in the chuck degrades with age/usage. So my pump (Birzman) can pump schrader valves if I unscrew the tip that pumps presta valves, and I use a cheap adaptor that screws onto the presta valve stem's head, and the schrader chuck to lock onto it. Takes a while longer but finally I no longer need to throw away pumps due to old o-rings. I mean, nice floor pumps are not cheap.
£68 U.K. Some pretty impressive 'track pumps' out there for that kind of money. Couldn't justify the price for myself... but I have no issue with anyone who does have the wonga. TBH i to like and appreciate quality workmanship and if I had the spare ££ I'd buy it... but I don't so i wont ;)
Aero wheels are for race day. Training wheels, or all-rouders like the RS81 are for everything else, and sometimes race day. I like 'race wheels', but it's impractical to train on them. I haven't looked too closely at the Giant wheels to be honest. They roll well.
Just got the pump recently from the black Friday sales. Not sure why but when I release the lever, the head is stuck on the valve, it doesn't pop off like in your vid
my topeak joeblow does the exact same thing, you put it in place, turn the valve 90 degrees pump, turb back the valve and voila. all for half the cost. it does look good tho
thanks had toppeak joeblow for years got a lezyne and went to Buffalo and had new pump . got to Buffalo and found out lezyne dont like zip valve extenders . was sweating trying to pump up tires and had to use CO2 canaster . either get this or new valve extenders, I now have discovered the hard way 😂
I have it on my Silca Digital(has got to be the best pump going)and my Silca Travel pump. I have the Lezyne digital pump and while their chucks are nice and compact, it was so finicky and would slip off that I couldn't be bothered to fill the tire and therefore wouldn't ride for weeks.
Wayne Proud the answer for small women is to look for a pump with a small diameter as less 'weight' needs to be put on the handle to achieve a given pressure. A friend of mine could barely manage 100psi with her bontrager pump, we got her a specialized HP pump and now she's fine.
what about CO2 pump ? ofc its some emergency thing .... btw , how much air pump for summer season into tires because i dont get ppl who ride on low air pressure , i need to pressure around 9 or 10 bar /62kg/ ....
CO2 is an option... one I haven't gone with after messing about with crappy heads on them. And when I get messages from Von saying "They took my CO2 at the airport" just last week... I cbf with it. Small frame pump on the bike, track pump in the car/home.
can you do a video showing us your solution to pumping up a disk wheel on your own. currently using a zipp disk adapter on a regular track pump but you have to hold it on the wheel so its impossible to get it past 60 psi
It involves holding the 'crack pipe' on with one hand, pumping with the other, and using your body weight to pump the pump. An art I perfected many many TTs ago. :)
I had a version of the Hiro, bought for disc wheels and tri spokes but did not like it, a very tight fit in the hole and not even that tight on the valve The Lezyne head is better, especially the original version. It also comes with a small 90 degree bend adaptor that is much easier for disc / tri spokes. Better still, no need to buy the pump, just buy the lezyne braided hose with head, and fit it on any pump - I added one to an old Joe Blow which is now transformed into a great pump. $20 and sorted!
looks good, great machining but my £20 track pump has a locking head made of plastic and has lasted 5 years without issue. this is for people with more money than sense. people that think buying £5k wheels will make them into tony martin even if they are unfit

I doubt you upload videos twice, or do you? ;) Regarding the pump upgrade: I'm not sure if it's really worth the extra money if you don't happen to be a Grand Tour machanic. I have never spent more than 80 EUR on any bike pump so far. BTW: did I get that right? New TT bike?

Eli Douek it will be pretty straight forward, just have an easy day on the bike the day prior and have a good high carb meal at least 2hours prior. Then just pedal... and hope the Watt bike you are on is accurate :)
Those are not the original chucks. The hiro chuck by the Japanese brand is the real deal. Its a lot more durable in the level catch mechanism than other copies.

Niki I'd pay twice as much as what they are asking for if it is as good as it seems to be. I like also that there is minimal sideward pressure on the valve stem compared with a hand pump but how many pumps do you try before you've got something reliable and easy to use. 25 year warranty on top and I'm sold!
@@gplama No, not trolling. I received this item and it doesn't clamp shut and the air leaked out. I turned the valve on its thread and that helped a little but it's very difficult to get it locked onto the presta valve.
@@gplama There are instructions and I found them. Push the head firmly down on the presta valve, tighten the knurled sleeve until you feel it firm up, then close the pump head lever. If it doesn't close neatly, the knurled sleeve is too tight and loosen it a little. Then try latching the lever again. The valve will open when you start to pump.

SKS Rennkompressor is THE floor pump EVER! Some of them are 30 years old and still as good as new. Also, high pressure for track tires possible.

Track pump is a floor pump which is more portable, a race day pump. That is my understanding.
Will it work on a joeblow sport pump that has a Presta and schader valve . Want to get one to make it easier to pump my disc wheel
they have a 150 psi electric two works for 120psi no problem.

You can also hold the crack pipe down on the stem with your big toe, and pump using both hands.

Pump head is quality and easy to use. Connection looks disgusting along with the sound of the "FLOOR" pump.

Just buy abs2 to this lezyne pump and u won't need to buy this thing. It will hold the air for shure :P

have an old hirame pump head as well. Bonus - it works with the "cave" type disc/trispoke wheels. It's in fact made for that (I use it with my HEDs).
