how to insert video or background picture ?

If you are using the plug-in version of Particle Illusion, just apply the effect to the layer you want to use. If you are using the standalone version, you will have to do a quick trick using the emitter called Emitters 2020 > Solid Color. Change the shape of that particle to your background, and that will add in a background. You cannot insert video into the standalone version only the premium version : borisfx.com/products/particle-illusion/#upgrade

Thanks for the helpful videos! I have both the standalone and plugin version, how would I go about creating a seamless looping background? many thanks.

Hi Mark. There is currently no way to automatically make a seamless loop. What I have done before is to render out an overlength version and do a transition between them. Many times a straightforward dissolve works perfectly.

@@BorisFXco Yeah I realize there are other ways, just curios if it could be done from within the program. Thanks for the reply :-)

Is there a way to easily loop emitters?

As in video loop or keyframe loop? Video loop requires the old render, dupe the layer and crossfade trick. This works best for fast emitting objects like fire and smoke. We don't have a way to internally loop the keyframing of an emitter. If you're in AE, you can set up a loop expression on the Emitter position parameter and Particle Illusion will respect that in its UI.
It's an interesting feature request though. I'll bring it to the dev team.
