I went to Cypress CMS in the '70's shortly after the school from L.A. & things have changed since then. There was a $2.00 registration fee for CA residents with no tuition or prerequisites. I needed to get an inter-district permit and a physical exam report to enroll. There were many students fresh out of HS & I believe they were there solely out of curiosity. I had gone to college previously & was aware of what goes on in FH's. The classes were intense with more students dropping out after each exam with no curve grading system. There were no computers nor on-line classes, so it was imperative to be in class to take notes. It was necessary to memorize all the material covered in class in order to pass the courses. Microbiology, organic & inorganic Chemistry, Anatomy, Pathology, & Embalming were the most difficult classes for me. Back then the course was for 1 year with 2-19 semester units & 1-12 semester unit session held during the Summer. There were no clinicals. There were over 100 students the 1st day of instruction. I was 1 of 17 in the graduating class. There were prerequisites in place after I graduated. I had shadowed a classmate at a mortuary where he worked after school & was offered a job as an attendant. A 2 year apprenticeship was eventually granted in order to get licensure. Many mortuaries didn't allow apprenticeships suspecting once completed, the employee would leave with license in hand which was usually the case. I was lucky.
I took online classes and I agree with you, however the core pre requisites such as accounting, English, math, business are not a waste online. We still do get hands on training.
Im so glad I clicked on your video, I want to start my career , I live in California the Sacramento school is closer to me but I also like the cypress I really want to put the time in Im the first one in my family to go to college your video is incredibly helpful and encouraging
Totally off topic, but your hair is so pretty!! That style is so flattering on you 🥰 thank you for sharing your experience too, there’s not many videos at all on here about it!!
Are you going to be making more videos? I’m interested in mortuary school but I want to get a job first at a local funeral home and see how it’s like, I want to apply online but most are asking for pre-requirements that I don’t have 😕 Thanks for the info👍🏻
Hello! I am currently in the process of trying to make more videos! For more tips abs info in the meantime you can follow my Instagram @pinkhearsesociety. Try applying to be a removal tech or funeral service assistant at an SCI location to help build up experience :)
I would go to see an Embalming and an Autopsy. When I went to Mortuary Science in Florida. We would loss half of the class when it comes to Embalming. I loved Embalming., I have an AS degree in Funeral Service Education and a BS in Business Management.
Why after embalming? I’m a biologist (BS in general bio w/ concentration in genetics/microbiology) & have a masters in genetic engineering, an MBA, and a MA in communications. I worked in big pharma for 11 years. From what I can tell, I only need to pass the board exam and do a 1 year internship due to my extensive education. Also, my father was a ordained minister so I went to a lot of funerals & weddings. I simply don’t want to work in healthcare due to the corruption. I feel I could still help people and put my education to good use in this field.
@@safiyahwright8976 Yes Dallas Institute of Funeral service they have a online program if you not in texas I live in vegas and do the online program its a 15 month accelerated course

Would a bachelors degree in a related topic work for prerequisites?

Do you have any idea how one could even do that? That’s what I want to do to make sure I can stomach it however I think there’s laws against it
Thank you
Pre-requirements? WTF.
Most of the pre requisites are business management, and accounting.
not all mortuary schools require pre reqs
