Thank you for last night's live Bear. Your sermon validated the last 10 years of my life. You are truly moved by the spirit and to hear you say all the things I've been guiding my household by brought me so much validation. Praise be to God above.

Best company I even ever worked for, the owner and his wife (accounting/HR) came down and helped with orders. And open door if you had questions.

Every time I have started a new career, I've started at the bottom and worked my way up. The knowledge you gain at each level contributes to your success at the next and everyone else's continued success as they backfill the positions. Gives you a complete perspective. People don't have to constantly ask "What do I do?"

My grandfather as a young man worked on a farm and delivered propane. He worked himself up to become an engineer and his own engineering company. My grandfather didn’t take any crap from anyone. He would be the first one to go out and help if it was needed. He would be caught several times in the early morning before the crew got into the engineering company that he owned - scrubbing the toilets. He could’ve appointed someone to do it. He could’ve hired someone to do it he felt it was his job to do it. Do not put yourself above anything You are the CEO, CFO whatever “o” in a company, you have to be willing to do anything. That is what makes companies great.

Your business advice is actually How To Do Life advice ! If we applied what you spoke of to every aspect of our lives , everything would make so much more sense and be far more aligned with the Father's specs . I appreciate you , says this 70-something grandma !

Years (decades) ago, I was the low man new guy. Owner if company tells me to move a furnace down some sidewalk stairs, then over to the house we where working on. With the furnace on a two wheeler, going down the stairs, it started to get away from me. I did everything I could do, even got in front of the dolly to stop the furnace from flying down the stairs and getting demolished. The owner of the company saw this and says woah woah, what are you doing?! Get in the truck. I get in the truck, and he says that was the old furnace and didn't care if it got destroyed, but he thanked me for not giving up. Then we went for ice cream. I gained his trust at that moment.

I don’t have a business but hire young folks to help with my sheep. I tell them that my intent is to teach them to learn to work and work smart. I hope each one will grown up to be independent business owners so they need to learn to be diligent and guard their integrity. They can’t expect to suddenly have those attributes when they are adults. They have to build from childhood.

You talked about your employees knowing your mission statement. It reminded me of this short (true) story.
A preacher was in Atlanta, several years ago and noticed in the restaurants section of the Yellow Pages, an entry for a place called Church of God Grill. The peculiar name aroused his curiosity, and he dialed the number. A man answered with a cheery, “Hello! Church of God Grill!”
The preacher asked how that restaurant had been given such an unusual name, and the man said: “Well, we had a little mission down here, and we started selling chicken dinners after church on Sunday to help pay the bills. Well, people liked the chicken, and we did such a good business that eventually we cut back on the church service. After a while, we just closed down the church altogether and kept on serving chicken dinners. We kept the name we started with, and that’s Church of God Grill.”
From a book by Charles Swindoll

You are the Man. When I went to Afghanistan they didn’t know where they wanted to send me. I was stuck in Kandahar for two or three weeks under this Bosnian female. She put me in lay down yard and told me to go through all of these containers and come back and report to her what I found. I found a bunch humvee tires on the rim full air heavy as fk. So I had load all those tires on flatbeds. I don’t know how many containers, it was hot but I did it. I found a lot of containers with a lot of crazy shit. I’m even going to go into it. But then I found a container full of Quad maps and she sends a uniform and next thing you know they’re about to throw me in prison for what I saw. Just doing my job

Given the bad economy me and my family members cant afford new vehicles so I've been acting as the family mechanic keeping the old stuff running ive got tools and even bought a used tow truck in decent shape now im inspired to work for myself starting a tow business and hopefully building myself a workshop.
Not sure how to start with the legal stuff though i like machines but the law is a totally different machine

Bear has mentioned several books to help beginners navigate the legal/accounting aspects of a business. I wish he would make a reading list and pin it to the top of the CEO playlist. I read a book on why to and how to form a Family Limited Partnership (sorry I don’t have the name available now) which helped me. There are surely many now.
I’ve found one professional is often a good source of other professionals I needed. I asked my trusted banker for one or two recommendations for financial advisors then asked the ones I found a good fit for lawyers they found trustworthy, then who they found to be good CPA’s , etc. Its taken several years to get everyone in place and I’m now looking at some of them retiring. Hopefully they have grown their organizations well to carry on in their footsteps.

@@OkTxSheepLady yeah I've called around my area for quotes to tow and they are usually rather
expensive/slow to respond so i have an idea of what im competing with, i have to get a license to tow for business purposes no cdl is required for my trucks weight and i will need insurance and a Google listing so that people can find me. Im sure there is a long list of things i don't know i need but its a place to start

On a small scale I agree. Caution should be taken. I have seen a certain company hire a bunch of people with less technical knowledge and more PC speech. The veteran employees that had the knowledge mostly left without having enough time to train the new guys. High turnover lead to a bunch of ignorant people left in charge that don't have a fraction of the tribal knowledge that was once there. Allow the time to train your people and treat them right to retain them.

Yep. Entitled. Want the paycheck without doing the work.
I have a co-worker who says, "I don't get paid enough to help in your dept." Attitude goes a long way. I've told him and many people over the years: "work at the pay rate you want, not the rate you have. You won't get a raise by being mediocre."
