After the Ball performed by Rick Wakeman on his Live Portraits tour in 2018. Following the release of the 2017 studio album Piano Portraits, which was very well received and went Top 10 in the UK for several weeks, Rick has been touring “Live Portraits” to sell out audiences across the UK. As a lasting record Rick has decided to film and record a very special performance of “Live Portraits” at Lincoln Cathedral on 7th March 2018.

Love the ytube vids, but boy I would have loved to have heard this live in that beautiful venue
Cathedrals (if that's what it is) have excellent acoustics so that if you heard it live it would truly be something to remember. I wonder if this Wakeman performance has been stitched into a dvd? I've lost track of how many pieces from that performance he's posted to UA-cam.

I was watching some videos yesterday where people were being chosen and allowed to lie under the piano while played by experts. They were coming out crying in several cases, so the effect must be quite amazing.
I expect they get the full soundboard resonating directly above them and it must be powerful, considering the depth of the responses. I don't record any more, but it made me wonder what a mic placed in that position might record.
I expect it would not make a good primary placement, but might provide be some interesting mixed in fill material to really round out the lower ranges without doing it with post studio effects alone.
I have always been a fan of minimal engineering intervention, so there's that, but just a thought. Might be great, might be crap, but it would probably be interesting. Maybe this has already been done, but I haven't seen it. I am not a pro, BTW, but an enthusiast, so sorry if this is just old hat.
The piece was gorgeous. Any more, I would be surprised if it were anything else, in your case.

Having listened to the provenance of this piece, I have to admit that it oozes the stunning beauty of world-class ice-skating / ballet on ice. It's an absolute masterpiece,
for sure: I envisaged the brilliance and beauty of a flawless gold medal performance on ice.
