Yeah - but they did that > because, as mentioned in the video: “Dynasty” was one of the very first shows to acknowledge LGBT 🏳️🌈 on their show.... that’s probably why.... 🤓😌
That was a totally fun and unexpected video. I had no idea of the connection with Dynasty nor was I aware that Divine's twin sister Alexa lived there. One fun thing was seeing a painting in the background came to us for conservation treatments after the ceiling fell in.
Dynasty began filming at Filoli in Spring 1980 with George Peppard as Blake and Shay Duffin as Joseph. After an actors strike, the cast and crew returned in the Fall of that year for re-shoots with John Forsythe replacing Peppard and Lee Bergere replacing Duffin. Other rooms seen in the pilot include the dining room (very different from the sets used for the rest of the series), the study (which served as the Carringtons music room) and the upstairs sitting room (where Krystle prepared for her wedding). Set designers copied the sitting room's fireplace mantle for the living room set. Filoli's kitchen originally had wooden cabinets which were later replaced with metal. The Carringtons kitchen had wooden cabinets. Set designers for the Michael Douglas film The Game restored the kitchen to its original appearance and installed the wooden cabinets that remain in place today. Enchanted Hill in Hollywood served as the estate for the first two seasons; this is where the garage was located and a facade was constructed for Alexis' studio. Several scenes were filmed by the pool at this location. Arden Villa in Pasadena was used for exterior scenes beginning in season three with faux brick panels covering the house's tan stucco exterior.
Stephen's coming out scene wasn't actully filmed in the Filoli library. There are some changes in the room as depicted even from the pilot and I asked the Filoli curator and he told me even though it was the pilot the series was picked up already and that scene was filmed not in the real library but in a 3/4 scale set. If you look you will see a door in a corner that would lead to the Bourne's family room with the hidden bar and safe, but in reality there's no door there. It was added for the set library.
Hi there! Wow, good eye, thanks for the correction. We know that almost all of the original pilot scenes were filmed here, but this must have been re-filmed on the set when John Forsythe was recast as Blake Carrington, replacing the original actor George Peppard. We looked into it and found this blog by the pilot director that includes information we didn't know: senensky.com/dynasty-part-ii/ He wrote this about how part of the pilot was filmed on the recreated set after they were greenlit: 'Since DYNASTY was now officially going to be a series, the room had been reproduced on Stage 8 of the 20th Century Fox Studio, and I mean reproduced down to its minutest detail. I was told the art directors took molding impressions of the wood paneling of the room at Filoli and had them reproduced for the studio set. The one minor concession was the room was a few inches smaller. It was our 2nd or 3rd day at the studio after six days on the Filoli estate, and I was getting my final chance at the scene!' We were completely convinced the scene was filmed in Filoli's actual library, the level of detail the film crew went to to recreate Filoli is amazing!
@@FiloliEstate Yes, I've seen that linked page before. The Crystal/Blake wedding featuring George Peppard in the Filoli ball room had real flowers, but when re-filmed with John Forsythe artificial flowers were used instead. The curator said the sets were recreated in 3/4 scale with some minor changes (like the stairway was switched to the other side to facilitate better camera filming angles.
@@FiloliEstate The Ralph Senensky blog is phantastic. I chatted to him, few years ago. He must be way over 90 now. It was very sad that they changed the phantastic copy of the house, including the reception room, later with this overdone staircase in the middle. With this design the house must have had a hunchback, cos they put another room under the staircase. Even as a kid I was totally confused and rolled my eyes. They should had left it. Filoli is the perfect house. 😊
It will become a private home soon, undergo an extensive restoration by only the best of the best architects and designers of the Bay Area and their people. Make sure she gets her murdered out phantom and Cullinan.
Weird ... the historical house was lovely, but I don't get the interruptions or focus on the guy dressed up as Alexis.

George of the Jungle was also filmed here. I visited the Estate earlier today and recognized it right off the bat.
I visit FILOI every time I’m in SF

Could’ve done without the disturbed man in a dress but the rest was good.
Cruzin D’Loo as Alexis is the only reason I’m here and it’s perfect.
Fair enough!
Надеялась спокойно насладиться видами дома и садов. Почему в кадр лезет везде этот переодетый мужик?! Это к чему? Дизлайк
