  • Hi Sewists!
I had a lovely long break from work over Easter and managed to get 6 new makes finished! I have also done quite a bit of shopping with no work to keep me distracted, I really need a low spend few weeks now 😬 Did you do the same thing??
If you enjoyed this video and you feel like supporting my channel further I would be so thrilled if you bought me virtual coffee or Frank a carrot (his favourite treat 🥰) here:
    ko-fi.com/seamstressedruth
Or if you would like to follow me on Instagram my account is / seam.stressed.ruth
As usual, any snoring you can hear in the background is my little dog, Frank 🥰
    Have a lovely week,
    Ruth x

I do like that double sided quilted fabric. I have just made a cropped jacket using a thrifted doona that was quilted on both sides and I then just bound all internal seams.

re needle threading the optician made me a cheap pair of slightly stronger glasses just for threading needles and close work. They are fantastic. I use them when hand sewing, threading twin needles, overlocker etc.

Really enjoying your video, you’re so chilled to listen to. I’ve got a similar needle threader to yours and it does work - you do have to make sure the eye bit is the right way round as there’s a little poky bit that pushes the thread through. Have another play, see if it works.

Thanks for talking about the trousers; those shorts look adorable. One life to live - wear shorts whenever and wherever. People's eyes won't fall out of their heads and roll down the streets. That Ines jacket is fab. Wonderful makes!

Whebever I make a gathered waist item, I then steam the fabric flat at the top of the loose area, no stretching, and the result is 'mini pleats' which lie much more smoothly from the waist to the hips. I do that to about the top 3" It stopped that giant pouf look :)

You are much easy to hear now. But the microphone must not be plugged in quite all the way because it seems to cut out for a second or two every so often. At first I thought it was my phone, but I checked on my tablet and it happened there too, in the same spots. The volume is definitely much better though because you have a lovely soft voice, but without a microphone, it can be difficult to hear you.

Hi I bought a needle threader similar to the one you bought from hobbycraft. Mine is red and called a needle fairy. Similar to yours you have to hold the thread a bit taught but not tight, then when you press the button to thread it,(sometimes you have to do it a few times) then when you get it threaded you have to be careful not to unthread it when you remove the needle. However it works great.

    • @SeamStressedRuth
      @SeamStressedRuth  2 місяці тому

Yes that is what was happening to me, I got it threaded and then it pulled out again when I took the needle out. I will keep practicing 🥰

I really like the look of the Southbank sweater in the rib knit, it looks very high quality in that fabric ❤ with the skirt, I think a more fitted top would help, or you could try removing one layer of elastic so there’s just two channels which might help it be slightly less voluminous 😊

Yay!!!! The sound was great (with a few little hiccups when I think you touched the mic!) but otherwise great! Getting the right trouser fit seems to be a bit of a puzzle but your shorts are lovely. I have just made the Papercut Palisade trousers that I really like. I was scared to make them for ages because of the 'origami' pockets but they worked a treat. I am now cutting out a M&M indian cotton that I got last year, so I will definitely jump on to see what new fabrics they have. Needle threaders - they always break. Because they are so fine they probably just suffer from metal fatigue. Just use a magnifying glass which is what I do until they come up with something like a graphene threader or some other new material gizmo!

Hi Ruth, I was told I had a rotary cuff injury by a physio but after months of pain I went privately and it was diagnosed frozen shoulder. I tell you this because I listened to a podcast recently and frozen shoulder is linked to menopause 😮. I do t consider myself to menopausal yet but I am 48. I’ve had a steroid injection so not painful really but still struggle to reach my back to undress etc and it’s been 8 months tomorrow!!

Can you just recut the pair that is too big into the size 5's?
Also, the crotch can be lowered on the one you raised it on. I've had to raise and lower it quite often on ready to wear trousers in the past. You just re-sew the seam that goes from the front to the back a bit lower. It's quite easy. It will pull the trousers in slightly on the hips/upper thigh, though, but not much.
Just for interest's sake, if you have to raise the crotch, it isn't quite as good of a fix, but you sew the seam that goes from one leg to the other together a bit lower, and it brings in the front and back seam, raising it, just in case you need to do that sometime. It would work fine for you, but if you had a more round bottom, it takes out some of the fullness in the back a bit, so doesn't work as well, and it also shortens the leg length slightly.
