    Thanks for posting. The set I ordered on Amazon did not come with instructions. It looked pretty simple but after installing on my 602 it would not run. After watching your video I realized I had it installed wrong (CC rotation). After correcting and installing on the clockwise holes it now runs like a sewing machine!! Hopefully it will outlast the condensers I was having to replace every few months.

    Nice job. I have installed several on cars-trucks and dune buggies. But I'm doing my 641 Workmaster - Propane conversion and Pertronics. Coil and points conversion kit. Finishing up my Nash Fuel propane conversion that I fabbed all of the brackets and plumbed all the hoses. I have owned this tractor for almost 20 years . Bought it off of a retired Firefighter that took very good care of it. This propane thing is someting to behold . Tired of the bad gas sitting in the carb , tank and all that intales . I wish I could show you some of my work. I'm 70 - grew up with hotrods and motorcycles . This propane thing is a challange . Thanks for conferming the installation for the pertronics.

    I did the same thing- ordered the positive instead of the negative. It took me several hours to figure it out. Stupid! Yesterday's Tractor refunded my money as well. Good people!
    Thank you for your video! I learned a lot!!!

    I installed one on my 1950 IH Farmall Super A. It is a very simple upgrade. I have my IH converted to a 12 volt positive ground. When I installed mine the only issue I had was the tractor wouldn't start. Adjusted the timing and it hasn't missed a lick since. I installed mine about 3 years ago.

    The ballast resistor is for the coil and the wire on the coil comes from there by way of the ignition switch. Check your ohm reading at both places and just see what you get. Don't forget to disconnect your battery.

    I remember there was an issue with the dust cover either you left it off or cut the center out to make it fit over the exciter ring.

    Good video. I wish you would have shown how to deal with the ignition key/resistor hookup. That's where things get vague for me. I'm converting a Ford 3000 and the instructions are terrible. There's no adjustment for the sensor even though they include the acrylic gauge. The magnet doesn't sit flush with the top of the sensor when all the instructions/how to videos say it has to. After a call to Pertronix they told me it doesn't matter on this particular kit. It would have been nice if they would have mentioned that in the instructions.

    “Capacitors are passive electronic elements with the ability to store electrical charges. A condenser refers to a device that can transform a substance from its vapor state to a fluid state. “

      Impressive you can look up definitions in a dictionary, but anyone who has worked on a pre-electronic ignition vehicle knows the ignition capacitor is referred to as a condenser.

    The site Steiner highly recommends a change to high energy coil, and spark plug wires. Whey did you not do this?

    Nice job! I’m assuming your timing is 8 degrees before TDC. Am I correct? Also do you have a link to ordering the timing light you have there? It’s a lot better than the one I have. One other thing, when you changed your system to 12 volt do you have a video on that? Mine is 6 volt positive ground. Not sure if I have to change the starter and coil for a 12 volt system. Thanks!

    Easier than putting in new points and condenser. I might do that next time instead of new points.

    Nice video! Did you have to change the gap on the spark plugs? Someone told me you have to make the plug gap slightly larger than the original spec.

    • @SakimasRidgeHomestead
      @SakimasRidgeHomestead  4 роки тому

      I did not change the spark pug gap. I do not recall the instructions mentioning you may have too either. The only grey area is if you need to add the included resistor or not which seems to be a "try it without it, add it if you need to" method. Increasing the gap should give a little hotter spark I believe.

      My mistake. Changing the spark plug gap is if you use the coil Pertronix recommends. I found that out after I asked you. Thank you for responding.

    What do you do where do you find how to operate a timing light I never have operated one

    Do you have to cut the center of the dust cover out so that it can fit?

    Somewhere I read that if it is negative ground the wire from the distributor should be attached to the positive post on the coil and opposite that if it is positive ground. Someone else said it doesn't really matter. Confusing to say the least.

    • @SakimasRidgeHomestead
      @SakimasRidgeHomestead  4 роки тому

      They make four different part numbers of these units. 6 volt - ground, 6 volt + ground, 12 volt - ground, and 12 volt + ground. I accidentally bought the + ground one and it would not work at all. If I remember correctly they did hook up to the coil differently.

  • @yamaha1675

    What's the difference in the positive and negative ground. I got a negative wire going to distributor from coil. Is that a negative ground? It is a 12v conversion. I don't want to order the wrong one either..thanks

    • @SakimasRidgeHomestead
      @SakimasRidgeHomestead  Рік тому

      Which battery cable goes to the body (ground) and which goes to the starter switch? The cable that goes to the body is your ground. Positive cable = positive ground, negative cable = negative ground.

      Most folks also say that you should replace ground with that braided type. Makes it easy to identify.@@SakimasRidgeHomestead

    We converted our Ford 640 to a 12v system but can't get it to start. Will the electronic ignition a must to be possible to the resistor as ND not the Coil?

    • @cdlvj
      @cdlvj 11 місяців тому

      I assume Neg Ground. Check the voltage on plus side of coil. if less than 12, then you have to run that wire back to 12 volt side of ignition key. Also look at the steiner site as they highly recommend the high energy coil, and also have part numbers for plug wires.

      I obviously assumed I had purchased the correct part when I installed it. Only after the tractor would not start and quite a bit of head scratching, did I discover that it was the incorrect part. I thought I explained pretty well in the video that Pertronix instructed me to cut the wires and offered to send the correct part after I sent them a picture of the wire cut off the igniter.
