  • This video records the hatching of baby mourning doves, from eggs all the way to the birds' leaving nest. The whole process actually took more than a month, during which the mom was guarding the nest all the time.

I just discovered a family of doves in my tree, 2 babies and 2 parents. We didn’t realize babies were living there until they were are almost full grown. Their parents hid the nest well! They are a little smaller than their parents, still squeak like nestlings and hang out in the tree most of the day. Sometimes they fly a few feet away. But most of all the siblings like to just hang out in the tree and sit really close to each other. The parents watch above from a street light. I don’t know how long it should take for them to move on, but it has been about a week. Still, it is fascinating to watch the process for the first time.

...loved this. Early this morning, I peeked out and saw the two baby doves alone in nest. Just last night the parent was there. I heard a commotion on the porch...like wings flapping...looked and babies were not in nest. One was on door mat right next to front door. The other one I cannot find at all. I tried to scoop up the one by the door, but to my amazement it kinda half flew to a pot on porch and 'hid' from me on shady side. Later, I looked out and it was still there. I looked to my roof that makes a cut out around porch and saw two adult doves on the roof to my right. I'm obsessed with this baby and want them not to ignore it and where did the other little guy go? I've been reading and trying to figure out what to do...when I ran across your video. Wonderful video and calmed me down. Thank you for sharing. I, too, felt sad when I saw the empty nest. Our world is so full of nothing but bad news...so these little doves were special to me.

Yes they are. I have a mourning doves nest on our front porch. And going through the same thing. They were in my hanging aloe vera plant pot. I been watching them and making sure things is alright . Since I found the two adult mourning doves show up on May 19th,2023 early in the morning. When I was getting ready for work .for two days they were there in the early morning. The third day. They started laying on their eggs all the time for two weeks. And the two babies doves were catched. I got to see them take care of their babies doves. They started leaving them alone a little at a time and came back to them .like 10 days in after they catched. They left them alone all night long at day 12,13. And came back the next morning. Day 14 ,two weeks later. They left the nest on father's day June 18th,2023. But one baby dove is still here on the ground the next morning with one of its doves parents. Then both dove parents been around our front yard by it and watching it. I don't know where the other baby dove is. All three moved around. They left lastnight and the baby dove was back on the ground and then on the wall seating earlier this morning. Then both doves parents are back on the ground with it in our front yard. They trying to help it fly away. They leave the nest 14 days after they catched. And they fly away and supposed stay by the doves parents for a couple more weeks. To be fed and taken care of from the parents. Then they are supposed to be on the own. I googled the mourning doves and their babies information. I research them and be learning about them I love them so much and so happy and glad they chose our house to nest in. It was a honor and privilege to have this beautiful precious little dove family to watch and love from a far close distance. We could see them through are front porch kitchen window .where the front door a few feet away. I hop3this little baby dove makes it and flyers away permanently and has a great long life. And the other baby dove that hasn't returned too. And their parents too. Hopefully we have a chance for them to nest here again sometime soon. They said on the internet they can come back and nest at the same spot. People have had doves nesting on their porches or property years. This is the first time for us. I was shocked and surprised to find them in my hanging potted plant that been hanging there for 8 years. I guess they are known for making the3nest in hanging pots and flowers beds. And are known forlazy nesters. That they nest in hanging pots and build their nest in them. I so addicted to them . To see them and learn about them and taking pictures of them. Sad their nest is empty now. But the one baby dove is still around tha last two days with it's parents watching over it. Trying to help it fly away for good. It's call fledging when they are leaving their nest at two weeks after they catched. They grow really fast. And get big fast in two weeks time to fly away from its nest. Sending love and prayers that all of them fly away safe and stay together for couple of weeks . And have a long happy lives and have more little doves babies. ❤💗🕊💕⚘❤💗🙏🏻💗🙏🏻it says if they vist you. It's mean love, peace happiness, good luck. They are a messager from God. That a deceased love one is near by you. Please look it up on Google. And research for yourself about them and what it means when they are visiting you. They are such a Blessing. Gods Blessings and love you guys 💗🙏🏻🕊⚘❤🥰💗🙏🏻💗🙏🏻🕊🕊🕊🕊

Saw two, a mother and chick, smaller version of its parent. Little one was snuggling up to its mom, perched on a thin branch. Next day, saw mother flying around corner of house; baby was left under a bush, looking bored. Didn’t seem too nervous, but probably wondering where mom had gone. Such innocent creatures.

Thanks for sharing this video! I was observing the pigeon nest in my yard, too, since end of April. I saw that two pigions took turn to look after the egg (yes they only had one egg) and that baby came out several daya before the end of April. Then on the 30th of April there was a storm and I don't know how the baby fell out of the nest and died. I was very sad that day to see that. But after several days, the pigeon "husband and wife" came back and start incubating again. Today is the 5th week and I have observed exactly the same here: the pigeon mother almost never came back to the nest again, but observe from a distance. The baby has grown fast and today it is very big already, I think I will be sad and happy to see it leave the nest in the next days!

Thanks for sharing! They might not be the same "husband and wife" because some birds like to re-use the existing nest. The one in my video was used once again right after the first ones left.

Just watched this whole cycle myself, as some doves laid a couple eggs in the tree near my porch. I saw them build the nest(on a tree I was trimming no less...) and then the eggs after a little time. Then the chick feeding(I think only one made it), I saw it open its wings a few times as if trying to practice for flying. Now the chick has been mostly on its own though I see the parents check in from time to time on the power lines above. I'm hoping she finds her wings soon, as they set up in a very naked and short tree. Been quite a pleasure watching the whole life cycle, I hope they didnt mind me watching the whole time lol

We had a pair nest in our backyard. The 2 chicks were large enough to be crowding the parent. I was expecting them to leave soon. Someone got too close to the nest, and the parent bolted. The chicks panicked and flew over our block wall. The parents did not seem to follow at first, and the chicks disappeared. What are the chances of the parents finding the chicks?

I have a small blue bird feeder in the same tree, I stopped feeding the blue birds because it seems to draw a lot of sparrows the blue bird the baby bluebirds would eat the mealworms. I went out to remove feeder and the dove got spooked and must have really hurt itself trying to get out of the tree I had thought it broke its wing its mate came to its rescue. Now she's in the nest or it's the male must have been there for at least four days that I know of. It should be interesting to watch the doves raise the chicks.

Hello, hope you are doing well.
To anyone who is reading this, I need help.
I've seen a nest of a collared dove.
There were laid two eggs but only one hatched. The baby bird maybe 3 to 4 weeks old.
I think the parents have abandoned the nest. Is it even possible? I've seen them lay eggs there seasonally.
It's raining right now but I'm not seeing their parent. I've been noticing this for four days now.
Is it normal? Should any action be needed to be taken?

Hello, thank you very much for your reply.
I've been checking the nest early in the morning and at sunset, but i haven't seen the parents.
Maybe I've missed the time when they did visit the nest, i don't know.
If I'm not wrong, without food, for the last 3 days till now, it wouldn't survive but the fact is that the little bird is alive.
      I read that :
      1. parents do leave the baby alone at some point so it can later take the chance to learn to fly away from the nest.
      2. The parents never abandon the nest, only if the feel any danger or worse any harm may have happen to them.
      3. Even if we find a little baby bird fallen from the nest, if its possible we should put him back in the nest.
What would you suggest? Should any of this beconcerning? What's the best thing that should be done?
Should I just leave things as they are? I'm afraid to not be late for it.
Ps. The nest is in the second floor of the building, behind a satellite dish.

Ho. I am a Christian that has the faith of Jesus and keep the commandments of God. Sadly, hellfire will be filled with false Christians who did not repent but continued going to church on sunday, Christmas, Easter, January 1st. Stop being a rebellious witch and a stubborn idolater. If you reject the word of God, you will not reign as a king under King Jesus. 1 Samuel 15:23, Revelation 1. We both know that God only saved Noah and his family from the flood. God also only saved Lot and his daughters from Sodom. Remember that our Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God and upon this rock of truth, he founded the church. Let us not go back to the weak and beggarly elements of Christmas, Easter, sunday, friday, January 1st, etc. Let us go on to perfection. In the new earth, we shall worship God in his sabbaths and new moons. No idolater that worships every sunday, friday, Christmas, Easter, January 1st, etc will be there. Again, no idolater or rebellious witch will be in the new earth. Judge Jesus and the Gentiles kept the sabbaths, new moons and holy days.

It's definitely hard to watch, but the kick out period is important for development. The parents want the baby to become less dependent. The babies usually don't have full flight capabilities yet, and are encouraged to be on their own by the mom and dad spending less time with them in the nest.
