I have a beautiful piece of black jade. It is sitting all over the ground at a local quarry. I go back and collect as much as I can find often. Monroe, Washington!

The only certain way to determine if your jade is "Black Jade" is with a small magnet, as it will stick to it. This is because black jade gets its color from, high iron content.

I have some black jade the Gemologist didn't know what it was. They thought it was obsidian or onyx but black jade is way stronger than onyx and obsidian

I found a large chunk of what i expect to be black jade up at baker lake.
It was the hardest thing ive ever tried to cut with my saw. Still not sure exactly what it is. Not magnetic.

To be honest I didn’t even know Washington had black jade, since it’s really Wyoming that takes majority of the association with Edwards Black and such. Really stoked to just learn more about what Washington has to offer in the gemstones section.

Oh man, than a beauty too! Love it. Is it black Jade? Would also love to trade a couple of small rectangular pieces for some small nephrite Jade I got from Big Sur 😊

Thank you for the comment! It is a fantastic stone! I think it is black jade, but I'm not done investigating and working on it yet. After I cut it up some more, we can talk trades.👍

And so you know, we started another channel for our Outside adventures, like rock hounding! This way we can separate the shop projects from the outdoors! The channel is Chris & Andrew Outside, and there is one video up about jasper now.

I’m pretty sure that isn J ’t actuall if y real nephrite. Sometimes you can find a sort of black jadeite/chloromelanite or similar characteristics, but even then that would be something you would have to find in California’s jade areas. But sadly, not gonna be finding that material in Washington state.
Definitely Is possible to find black nephrite jade in WA state as an ocean find, although the characteristics of those Cali stones are quite a bit different then shah we have over in here.

Thanks for the comment! If I remember right, this stone was found on the upper coast. It's actually really heavy and dense for it's size. Still need to do the Mohs and specific gravity.

Hi! I have some pieces of what I think is black jade. Can I show you some photos so you can tell me what you think?
By the way, people in Mexico call "ónix negro" (black onyx) what Americans call black jade. Have you ever heard about this?
    Have a nice day, man!

    • @VanSaused

Black jade usually is associated with Nephrite Jade, entirely different from Onyx because jade is officially used to described Nephrite or Jadeite jade. Usually onyx is lighter by weight compared to black (nephrite) jade. Black jadeite does exist as Omphacite but even that isn’t really black jade but more like dark green or deep green jadeite, although Guatemala Jadeite does have Galactic/Galaxy Gold jade

@Bringette Awnn Great! I have been studying a lot since and I am 99% sure I have several kilos of variety of black, mostly black, which the one I like. And I even faound sort of jasper wich no one can tell me what it is, I call "galaxy jasper. I´ll be uploading come some photos soon.
Thank you for your comment, I think the same about it. It is supposed that jade "officially" does not exist in Mexico, but in fact there are many places where people extracts and carves Jade in South Mexico. I'm pretty fascinated with my discoveries!
