This is how I wish Square would handle their 8 and 16 bit remakes.
This isn’t a remake.
@FelixS. In the video he said it was a remake at least 2x
@@michaelmcgee2026 Yes and he is wrong per definition. It is a reimagening / a sequel.
Dragon Quest 3 looking fire tho
@@FelixS.im so tired of this
one mans remake is another mans remaster is another mans reboot is another reimagining is another
who caresss, like does anything change if people call it one thing off hand.
Knowing how much SNESDrunk loves Pocky and Rocky, this review made me genuinely happy for him.
Oh wow, the pixel art in the remake is really good
I think it's just handdrawn art. No pixels. I agree it does look great.
3:56 Those are disc-shaped mirrors on wooden stands, the sacred mirrors seen in Shinto shrines, called “shinkyō”.
oh my god the Aikman praise for Mahomes at the end. You're an absolute gem, Drunk.
That praise was a little Mahomesy
Chris Collisworth is the worst Mahomes knob Slobberer
i wish they would do this with Lufia 1 and 2
Same. Those were probably my first RPGs ever, give or take Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I appreciate how straightforward they are, like a good introduction to RPGs compared to bigger name games.
That's what I'm hoping for too.
The first Lufia is especially in need of a remake. It has its charm, but it’s rough around the edges.
The "Switch Drunk" theme at the top was really really nicely done
4:20 That bassline is a variation on Let's Groove by Earth, Wind and Fire! Honestly pretty neat!
I had no idea this was being made. I'm definitely gonna buy this.
Especially if you can play co-op with friends online, that'd be fun as hell.
It's been released for 2 years now, its even on pc. Highly recommend.
@@DPedroBohAnd PS4
You have to beat the story mode to unlock co-op. Or use a cheat code.
You keep cranking these videos out, I'll keep coming back to watch them...some, multiple times. Thanks again Drunk for great content
Yeah I love binging his videos, it's so relaxing, and I watch his videos multiple times over. It always cheers me up to have a SNESdrunk binge.
Man, Pocky and rocky was one of my favorite games that I sucked at as a child, I definitely never even came close to beating this game but I loved playing it.
This one just absolutely nails it! Really wish Konami, Capcom etc would do something similar. So many classic SNES games that deserve to get the full treatment, like Castlevania, Legend of the Mystical Ninja, Axelay, Parodius, Ghouls n Ghosts, Mega Man, Super Aleste.
I would love to see every single one of these get a modern treatment. Mega Man kind of has that already with 30XX over on Steam, but the rest? Heckin' yes!
This is how you make a proper modern remake of an old IP. Other companies should take notes, because this is how it's done.
Well said: this is how a SNES remastered game should be!
This isn’t a remaster and not even a remake. It’s a reimagening or a sequel.
Indeed 😝 not only how this remake should be made, how YT videos should be made
I've had this for a while, and while all the upgrades are definitely well done, I just can't tolerate a top down shooter without twin stick controls anymore, it never stops feeling like a handicap.
This game needs strafing so bad. Not just Rocky's weird temporary strafing ability, either.
Pocky & Rocky 2 is one of my favourite games of all time, and these two games together played a huge part in getting me interested in Japanese culture, history, and mythology. I never imagined any of the Kikikaikai/Pocky & Rocky games would get such a loving remake, especially after what happened to the PS2 sequel back in the day, and I was so happy when this was first announced. It might be a little greedy of me, and it's probably a pipe dream either way, but I really hope 2 gets a remake as well.
This game was such a gift. Had a friend who owned it growing up, and didn't know it was so beloved!
One of the only Snesdrunk videos I stopped watching for spoilers and immediately bought the P&R / Ninja Saviors bundle. Great games.
I really was disappointed about the 2 player co-op option being locked until you beat the game once. I think this was a bad design choice... BUT I was happy that the devs at least put in a cheat code to unlock it from the start.
The game is really fun and worth playing multiple times.
Yeah, that is an odd choice. Some of the design choices in these remakes are pretty random, like in the Wild Guns remake, they had it so when you played multiplayer you only get three lives max to share, and only a few continues. If if you lost those you had to restart the whole game, not just the level. I don't think even the original was that hard!
The cheat changes everything! I thought this game was doodoo garbage for gatekeeping multiplayer
Because it doesn’t make sense at all within the story.
Also even after you unlock 2 player, there doesn't seem to be a way to play story mode with 2 players. So you are left not being able to save your progress in a two player game.
I want something like that with Terranigma. No more horrible shit like the ActRaiser or Secret of Mana remade.
Yeah while not terrible, I was still pretty disappointed by the Trials of Mana remake and wish I'd just gone instead with the 3-in-1 Seiken Densetsu Collection
I had no idea this remake existed. Gotta try it out
Wow! You're right, this is how I want to see 16-bit titles remastered. It's just the right amount of polish. Beautiful
Pocky and Rocky was my favorite game as a young kid. I used to make comics and write stories about it on construction paper and staple it together. I actually had no idea about this remake until watching your video. Huge thanks!
I liked the experimentation on the vocals in your intro. Impressive. I hope you continue to grow in the future in all your various endeavors.
I mentioned this on Twitter, but I bought the SNES Pocky and Rocky back in December because of your review on the original. But I also bought the physical copy of Reshrined at the same time. I was not disappointed. These games are super fun and extra fun to play with a friend.
After the death of Now in the 90s, it's great to see Drunk still going strong. Thanks for doing the work you do!
I bought a physical copy for myself and my sister a while back I like Pocky and Rocky it's such a cute game I remember playing The originals on emulator.
I picked this one up in a sale and have not started it still. Thanks for the review, now I definitely will play this next!
Really happy to see this covered as I picked up a physical copy on sale last year and haven't had a chance to play it but was always curious how well done it was. Looks like I should have had faith (and also pick up Wild Guns Reloaded).
They should do Crystalis. If only they had the rights.
Oh, that would be an instant buy for me. SNK still has the rights to that, right?
This looks awesome! Pocky & Rocky was one of my favourites of the SNES era; it had the most wonderfully cute graphics and, as you said, a fair difficulty.
Great review! This game looks amazing, and you described its other selling points well.
It's always a good day when SNES drunk uploads.
Thanks Drunk! You changed my mind on this one!
I would argue that there are only 2 legit ways of awesomely recreating these snes masterpieces. One is this style, the other is the treatment the Seiken Densetsu (Secret of Mana Series) got. The last one is prefered if the devs want to go 2d to 3d but if 2d to 2d is the intendet strategy than pocky and rocky or -just to name a similar well work- the super ghouls and ghosts remake or the tmnt in time remake. All of them great snes remasters and all well recommendable (even to none snes nostalgia folks).
The real question is: Does Rocky pass the "Tanuki check"?
He probably does. Just look at him fighting that huge guy alone at 3:01, that's gotta take some major balls.
I wish I could give this video a second like just for that Troy Aikman impression 😂
Thanks for making us aware of this!
Oh my god, this looks awesome. How have I never heard of this studio? This has been out for two years? I would've bought this day one.
Thanks for the upload, cool stuff!
Pocky and Rocky was my childhood. I remember playing both part 1 and 2 of these games with my best friend. Amazing games
Snes drunk making sports references, he has more faith that viewers if retro channels are normal than we do of ourselves.
Looks fantastic!
Picked this up last year on sale. Loved it
Yep it´s great. Bought a physical copy a few months ago and did not regret this.
There is SO Much of the NES and SNES catalogues that I would like to see this done for.
😄👍
Another great review!!! Did you by chance play Panzer Paladin?
This looks amazing. I can't wait to play it.
Very cool. Hopefully we see more updates snes games in the future
This looks stunning. I wish more classic games got this kind of treatment and care for a remake.
Big fan of the multiple harmonies now in the intro... Gains bruh
One of the OG Titles I used to Play with my Favorite Couisin, along with other 2 Player Titles
This channel is outstanding! ❤️
Damn it Drunk, my e-shop wish list is already too big! 😂
Small world! I just put this on my switch wish list!!
If anyone is wondering what this tango project stuff is about. It's old natsume developers back together remaking some of their old games, and they are not missing a beat. They already remade Wild Guns, Ninja Warriors and Pocky and Rocky. And all of these are amazing, seriously they were made with so much care.
I wish they'd make new stuff too.
Not to be "that guy" but it's Tengo Project. With an e.
Yeah, he mentions all this in the first few seconds of the video, I guess you didn't watch it before commenting...
really liked that wild guns reloaded
Man, I loved this game as a kid! I'll have to pick this one up!
I loved the original, picked this up on PS4. Haven’t gotten to it yet, after watching this I think I’ll go and boot it up. Thanks!
Love these remakes! Ninja warriors and wild guns remakes are amazing too. Can't wait for shadow of the ninja.
i been wanting to get this. glad its on Steam too.
Added to Steam Wishlist for the artwork alone.
That game looks amazing! I don't think I ever played the original, but I'd really like to try that one
Liked this one a lot, but I was one of the lucky few to play Pocky & Rocky back in the day and really loving it. This one is really good outside a few hiccups. Two-player being unlocked only towards the end (which makes sense via story mode) sort misses a big part of the appeal of Pocky & Rocky. Some of the English translation is really iffy for a game of this day and age, but everything else you mentioned in the review really sparkles. This game is a dream come true for Pocky & Rocky fans.
I love the original game and still play it today. Wow, this remake looks amazing!
Thank you for this video, this title could have been made any more gorgeous! Also looking forward to that possibly Shadow of the Ninja video, hopefully ✌🏼😅
Wow the music in this game sounds AMAZING
I'm definitely getting all Tengo's games on Steam, these remakes are exemplary indeed
It's good to get a SNES drunk review on this, cause Steam reviews for that version are inadequate.
And just checked- its also out on Steam
Any chance of getting "PS1 DRUNK" videos?
Knowing how much drunk loves pocky and rocky this is petty high praise. I’ve never played any of them but I think I should pick this one up
This looks very nice.
Babe! Babe, wake up! New Pocky and Rocky just dropped!
ho my, that looks incredible
The pocky & rocky was my first snes import game back in the day, it’s an amazing game. This remake is absolutely on the money 👍🏻
All the Natsume remakes/remasters have been wonderful! Looking forward to their upgrade on Shadow of the Ninja.
Please keep tabs on this sure thing I didn’t even realize they had made this or wild guns reloaded for switch. Got to get both.
... *Switchdrunk*
Excellent, we will have channel for many more years 😊
oh nice! i love the old pocky and rockys yet i cant force any of my friends to play it with me
I always say Natsume was the king of hidden gems. I've been loving these remakes!
Bless Natsume for their awesome work!
Can't wait for the Shadow of the Ninja remake!
Next up is Blue Shadow, looking forward to that! Both Iku Mizutani and Hiroyuki Iwatsuki are working on the music :D
I’m inspired to check this out 👍
Aikman catching strays in a Pocky and Rocky review damn
I played it a few months ago and i really like it, although it is very hard.
This is how you do remake/reimaginings.
More people should talk about them.
These Natsume re releases have been amazing!!!! Ninja Warrior is my favorite
This is a great remake I love that it still looks like a old school video game preferably a ps1 game, Natsume and tango project did a great job with the game. 👍❤
One of my favorite SNES games ever, so this one has been on my wishlist for years. Unfortunately it never goes on sale, and I'm kinda cheap so I haven't pulled the trigger yet...
EDIT: A Shadow of the Ninja remake?! No way, that was one of my favorite NES titles! Great game, under appreciated, with an awsome ending theme.
I was so excited to play this game. Sat a friend down next to me and.... womp. Locking the multiplayer behind a wall was unforgivable. It should always be available from the get-go.
This is how remakes of 16-bit games should be- not updating everything to 3D graphics because "2D is old and obsolete and nobody wants it any more" (something that was already disproven back in the _32-bit era_ when Sony tried to mandate for only 3D games, only for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night to become one of the most-beloved PSX games of all time), but just updating and improving the sprite graphics that we all know and love from that era.
i played this when it came out and i agree 100% with your take, it's a great remake.
I bought this game simply because I thought the art was great and I ended up playing through it twice and had a blast. I’d gladly play it again and I think it’s a super great little gem
3:34 Ameno can float/fly so you don't have to worry about pitfalls or rivers.
This game is so awesome!
I love Pocky and Rocky.
This is basically a look into the alternate world where games industry went in the direction i wish it had.
Fav game
What is the Kanji on the forehead of the big round brown goblin?
I love this game. I was so hyped for the remake that I ordered the Japanese version off PlayAsia.
