Great Vlog, Mr. and Mrs. Bazza! And I can totally understand the "wave" you gave to the Tesla. LOL! As a good way to sum it up, "It's been real, it's been nice, but it hasn't been real nice." Since you are retired, you can take your time with finding something else to replace the Tesla.

We have been subscribed to you for ages and have enjoyed seeing your journey and learning about your successful retirement in the states. Such a dream for most people! Not surprised that Red 5 has been given the boot, what a palaver you had on that road trip!!
We wanted to thank you for inspiring us to start our own channel travelling in our caravan and sharing our upcoming Orlando trips. We love Orlando and spent 7 weeks over there last summer during the crazy heat wave and we are looking forward to coming back again. Thanks for giving us the confidence to give this You Tube malarkey a bash, early days but we all have to start somewhere.

My wife has a 2019 Forester. Bought new in Nov 2018 for $26k. I have a 2004 Sequoia. Bought in August 2020 for $4k, so $30k for both. Both vehicles have been faultless. Probably still be driving them 10 years from now. Chopping and changing vehicles is a great way to piss money up the wall, especially if it involves EVs.

As I mentioned , it’s the best thing we did for the house
When we went to one car, it freed up a lot of money for day to day living. No insurance or maintenance etc. Meant we had more disposable income each month. With your circumstances being what they are I’m sure it would be useful to free up money.😊
And we can invest it as opposed to it just depreciating on the car

Crazy how malls have gone to hell here in the states. Just 10-15 years ago when Mikayla was young we’d be at the mall every weekend.
Yep, when we moved here in 2005 they were packed, I loved feeling all manly walking round Sears looking at all the tools :-)
Mall at Millenia still has good traffic. So does the International Mall in Tampa. The rest are dead. We will get to the point where every big city has one surviving mall.

Thank you for explaining Carvana. I have watched a few vlogs, but did not trust them. I trust you. We have been looking for a "fun" car even though one is working fine for us. Renting for a trip makes so much sense though. Great vlog. Thank you
We have never had a bad experience with Carvana
We went down to being a one car family with just an MG ZS EV. Unfortunately the range is terrible and the depreciation is even worse so we ended up back with two cars, with the second being a 2l Diesel Audi Q5 - which gets us a lot further than the 100 miles that the MG does! We will eventually return to one car only but it will definitely be a hybrid rather than a full EV.
Depreciation is the big reason we chose to loose the Tesla
One of the things I always remember from Floridian holidays was the pronunciation of Hyundai in the tv adverts sounding like
‘hon-day’. In the UK, we now have adverts telling us how it should be pronounced and I’d say we were both wrong as it’s supposed to sound like ‘he-un-day’.
I was hoping that you’d keep ‘AYEUP’ and I was going to ask what happened to your original ‘BLYNCH’ plate. Thankfully it’s a lot easier in the uk where you can do everything online although you do have to wait for a new and updated V5C to come back before you can do the next step if you have a personalised number plate.

The old BLYNCH plate was registered in Virginia so was traded back in when we sold the car before leaving
When I was on holiday in the States, I was impressed with GMC & Dodge vehicles. Wish we had them in the U.K.!
I had a Dodge about 15 years ago it was one of the most unreliable vehicles I have owned . When we moved here I asked the locals what car we should buy expecting , Dodge, Ford and Chevy. They said Honda, Toyota and Nissan :-)
Such a shame on the Kia. We had a Kia for 7 years (never kept a car more than 2 years but this was brilliant) before swapping for a Škoda Enyaq ev this year (huge discount through work)
On the Volvo, we had an xc90 and it’s still to this day the best car I’ve ever owned. We’ve had 2 Volvos and once you’ve had one nothing is ever the same! We only got rid because the fuel costs were stupid over her and we were doing £70 a week in fuel.
I’d seriously encourage you to have a proper good look at an xc90 I promise you won’t regret it!

More people here are going back to the malls here in N. California. I noticed less people going to the malls, Amazon did that but now I’m seeing a lot of people not happy with them returning stuff and really disgusted. I like to see what I’m getting and hate returning stuff. I just went to our most struggling Macys and got great deals on clothes. One store told me I had to buy something on line cuz they didn’t have it in store. I just left, didn’t order it. I like these retirement vlogs a lot.

I had to stop driving a few years ago, and sold my car to Carvana. Not only did they offer the best price, but the customer service was superb.
They have always been great with us also

We used to love west oaks mall in its hay day ! Loved the Phili cheesesteak and gourmet fries so yummy ! It had a Parisian and I loved that store ! It was never really busy ! Now it’s mall of millennia for us and winter park lol ! Great vlog

Great very interesting Vlog. These are actually better than theme park Vlogs as they are unique- Brits retiring in the US.
I’m in Hawaii at the moment and got a brand new never driven Expedition from Alamo, nice car and so high- I agree you miss the height with Teslas. Just come from LA and had a Kia van. Nice car, but it had a defective auto closing door and it was dodgy and got stuck draining the battery overnight. Nightmare morning getting it sorted last Sunday.
At home my Tesla is also going and I’m getting a Renault Scenic EV (nothing like an old Scenic, European car of the year). This is the first Tesla beater in my view, great value, half the price to lease compared to a Y, longer range, and the tech in it is great (they developed it with Google). Can’t believe I’m buying a French car but they knocked it out the park with this. I’ve had Tesla’s for 6 years, buying an S from new and a 3. Suspect they’ll come up with something really good in the next few years and I’ll go back.
I couldn’t live with one car, my wife and I have our own interests, would be worse in the US. Why not just get a cheap runaround so you both have independence? You can’t go anywhere in Florida without a car, so we couldn’t do that and will have to have 2 cars in retirement.
We had the Scenic ICE car when we lived in the UK and loved it, I was also watching about the new Grande Fiat Panda last night. We are giving the one car a try for a while, yesterday was the first day I was home alone

Why did you keep the Hyundai over the Tesla? At least the Tesla is somewhat usable for longish trips outside a long road trip. I think even with the Volvo you’ll struggle to get anywhere near the level of one pedal driving in the Tesla. The hybrid part of cars is normally a very small battery and can only charge slowly, so regen can’t put anywhere near enough power in quickly, so the only way they can really achieve it is by a fake regen when it is actually using the brakes instead of
The Tesla used prices are tanking, that’s what made me chose that over the Hyundai . If we keep an EV it will only be for Florida trips. If we do a long roadtrip we will hire a car. If We trade the EV for a hybrid it will have to have full one pedal driving and to my knowledge only the Volvo XC 90 and XC60 do this.
We just did CarMax a few weeks ago, offered $1500 more than Carvana. But we did Carvana a few years ago, easy!

I have a Sportage. It's smaller, but I love it. My daughter has a Sorento. It doesn't work well with small children in car seats. The oldest has to sit in the back row, and it's difficult to get out of the car because of two car seats in the middle seats. He has to go out the back door. Not really safe. They plan to get the KIA van.

Hi if you go for a hybrid then go for a plug style one. I have a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV and although the battery has now only a 22 mile range (36 when new) I can go to the supermarket, restaurants etc and use no petrol. Its also got brilliant regen. If fact sometimes I get the 2 month warning to use fuel or it will get stale in the tank!

You know I have considered that but the car depreciates so much in the USA for some reason. They are selling some only 2 years old and the car has lost 50% of its value . That has kind of scared me off a bit

My dad and I were on holiday in the States last week watching baseball, drove 1000 miles between Chicago and St Louis in a Model 3 SR+ and it cost half the price of petrol. I understand going down to one car in retirement though, we'll likely do the same when we reach that point but after almost ten years driving EV, I'd never go back to ICE.
I know , that why we are keeping the EV instead of a Hybrid for now
It's pronounced "He-un-day". We had a Kia on one of our trips and we were very happy with it but you'll only be able to make a decision once you've sussed out and compared the running costs. Wishing you all the best with it.
Yes we are not against swapping the EV for a Hybrid at some point , but as you say we need to work out the costs

For you this is probably the best decision, cars are getting far too expensive to run.
Seeing the Mall looking run down is quite sad, they were always a popular way for us to spend a non-park chill out day at.

Very interesting vlog definitely best idea to get the money out of the Tesla for now , I do like Maxine’s car though but definitely think the way to go would be a mid size hybrid suv, Volvo would be a good option just check on the maintenance costs and consumables things like wiper blades can be expensive as the jets are built in. Am curious how you did cash wise on the Tesla but appreciate it’s personal I’ll assume $25-30k 😉👍🏻🍻
No we got a lot more than that for the Tesla, but it was depreciating $1000 a month so time to say adios

Land Rover Orlando were doing a $25k dealer markup on the Range Rover after covid times. Went back to them in May (this year) AND THEY ARE STILL DOING IT 😵💫 That’s on top of the full ask on the car. Let’s see how they fare doing that in the next few months 😂 Unfortunately people seem to be paying it 😬

After that stressful range anxiety ridden road trip you took in the Tesla i cant say I blame you for selling it. I blame Tesla for their failure to build a car that can compete with a gas car on range. Maybe someday batteries will get better. I still think electric motors are superior to clunky internal combustion.

I enjoy all of your videos! I am a bit confused though. I know you had a lot of problems on your road trip with the Tesla and I thought the reason you wanted to get a hybrid was the convenience of using gas or electric. It appears you have a Hyundai EV only?
The choice was sell both EVs and get a hybrid for local and long road trips…….or keep one EV for local trips and then rent a car when we want to do a long roadtrip. We chose to do the latter for now
Hyundai makes a Sonata that's a sedan.. KIA makes an SUV called a Sorento... are you thinking of a Hyundai Santa Fe?
