"this is the season that brought us stilt walking, kite flying, and making popcorn as challenges in a million dollar game" LOL, I dont remember popcorn challenge but that sounds so on brand for Marquesas
To be fair to Marquesas, the reason the budget was tight and the challenges are so cobbled together is because the season itself was cobbled together. It was originally supposed to be Survivor: Arabia, but the 9/11 and the ramp up to the Afghanistan War put the kibosh to that. They had to scramble to get a location, and then set up things like Tribal Council. Add in the costs for getting all the boats and such needed last minute, it didn't leave much for challenges. Plus they didn't have time to plan them out and build them while testing for safety. Frankly its amazing it ended up being a fairly decent season.
Natalie said a couple of days ago on Twitter that she never gave Aneglina the jacket, because after she hugged her, she "just knew" Angelina was in on it, haha.

If you include Australian Survivor, the second swap of season 3 (2016) would be #1. The winning tribe of the reward challenge (there was 3 tribes at this point) got to pick people from the opposing tribes to join them with the unchosen people as the opposing tribe. They literally picked all the challenge beasts and annihilated their opposition for 6 straight episodes winning all 9 challenges
to be fair that didnt look quite AS unbalanced at first. yellow tribe still had some strong people like Phoebe, Kate, Rowan and Craig. I feel like in alot of challenges yellow only lost narrowly, not like a huge blowout
@@freddytang2128 was a little more unbalance when you considered that yellow had Andrew and Sue as well, who you basically had to work around. And the other tribe got Nick AND Matt who had been the best at puzzles at least until that point (and continued to be afterwards)

Natalie said at the end of her vote-out episode that she didn’t give Angelina the jacket because she didn’t know if she’d actually voted for her and because “I don’t have to give her my jacket, so I kept it”, lol.
Marquesas actually had a very physical post swap challenge with running and paddling, which Maraamu actually won. This was one of the biggest underdog challenge victories! Also Gina was scheduled to be booted next pre swap so she just went from one bad situation to another.
How could you not include Fang 2.0 on the list??? They lost all 6 of the post-swap challenges, several of which were among the biggest blow-outs in Survivor history.
While they were an objective disaster, I was going mostly based off 'on paper'. Matty and Ace should've been able to carry that team.. emphasis on /should have/😂
The Blood and Water season random swap has to be the best in terms of NOT going the way the producers wanted. Not only did it create a beast team but it did so without producing any viable couple. Statistically impressive, as if the Survivor Gods did not want the makers of the show to win this one. Survivor Marquesas really LOOKS like the most lopsided, and Jeff even notes that random disproportionate allotment of the tribe swap. As the following challenges do appear to have been tailored away from physically taxing events there does appear to be some obvious adjustments on the part of show producers.
i’d consider the tribe swap in australian survivor 2016 to be the most lopsided swap in survivor history tbh, even more so than the marquesas swap. for those who have never heard of it, there were three tribes that started off the season and they were relatively evenly matched. then they were swapped to two tribes with the tribe winning the reward challenge getting to pick who else would join them. naturally, the winning tribe picked what can only be described as a stacked tribe which results in the other tribe losing every single challenge until the merge. they even had to merge early because the tribes were so obviously uneven.
If you watch the credits scene you hear Natalie (correctly) say she didn’t give Angelina her jacket because she wasn’t convinced Angelina was not involved in sending her home
Fiji was an interesting case. Post-swap Ravu was composed of mostly strong, younger males, but they were clearly weakened by the “have-nots” twist. If they had wound up at the other camp I can only imagine how much they would have dominated.
Im glad I looked through the comments before saying the same thing haha. I mean with the 4 horsemen plus Rocky, the physical aspect should have been a cake walk, but what did they win, only 1 reward challenge between the swap and merge? Also while we are talking Fiji, can we get an F for our girl Michelle, I hated that immunity challenge with no scramble afterwards.
Consider this: if Maraamu won that last immunity before the merge, it’s pretty likely Rob get voted out that round. That means he doesn’t make the merge, and probably disqualified from appearing in all stars. Rest of survivor history would be different
@@freddytang2128 True. Even nowadays, excluding medevacs, we've seen only seven people return from outside the top 10. Interestingly, they tend to perform well in their return appearances. Sarah won, both Culpeppers made final tribal, Wentworth and Kimmi made the finale, Michaela went out right before the finale... and Francesca was the first boot again.
Sometimes I wonder, when they do a random swap right before a very physical challenge (like Cagayan), what would happen if lets say the new tribes ended up being all men vs all women. for obvious reasons, you can't run that "remove someone from a pole" challenge with an insane gender imbalance. Would they come up with an alternative challenge on the spot?
If you look closely, you might notice that Jeff will have two trays of buffs--one for the men, and the other for the women. This will split both genders (roughly) evenly amongst the tribes.
The reason why Natalie didn't give Angelina her jacket is because she thought she may have been involved in her blindside. She says this in her confessional after she's voted out.
True, but they were matched fairly evenly in terms of challenge ability, because La Mina might have had Terry/Austin/Nick as the strong challenge players, but there were quite a few college athletes on.Casaya
On the Colten situation, I would have gotten everyone that doesn’t like him and would’ve split the vote, one side to Colton and the other to who’s closest, Colten would get a majority then would have to play his immunity however his ally is next on the chopping block then we could dispose of Colton easily given he has no tricks up his sleeve
Or, just refuse to go to Tribal, and sit him out of immunity challenges so he can't throw them. That tribe had to agree to give up immunity UNANIMOUSLY. That includes whoever would eventually be voted out (Bill). I would have just refused. What is Colton going to do by himself? After that, just sit him out of all immunity challenges (the men had the numbers lead at this point), even if it means losing reward challenges that Colton participates in. I don't think they are allowed anymore, but I remember people having them in the earliest seasons (just checked #1, and the players clearly have them). Production curates ALL aspects of a contestant's wardrobe, even going so far as to send them to buy clothing if what they bring doesn't work (or that producers don't like). Survivor Australia 3 stuffed up totally in allowing a winning tribe to cherry pick the best players from the opposing tribe. The winning tribe then went on to win 8 challenges in a row. After that it became a total farce and I stopped watching half way through the series.
I heard it gets better at the merge, but yeah the swap sucked
