pretty cool project, though a bit complex for most people to replicate. I have a kerosene stove from the 1940s that does not require a fan, and is less smoky. It burns US diesel, too. Anyway, the key to it is that it uses an asbestos wick to deliver the fuel and three layers of rings to channel the the flames and burn the fumes. Works beautifully, though it is very finicky to adjust - basically takes minutes to change temperature rather than instantly like gas - which is the reason why gas clobbered kerosene for kitchen stoves. VERY low tech, no welding, just rivets. Fiberglass wicks could replace the asbestos one.

And even then, it doesn’t do so until it reaches temperatures in excess of 540c which is well above the temperatures required to burn fuel for cooking. Edit - to be clear, you are right that fiberglass binder material (if any) would need to be burnt off before it would be safe to use in this manner.

Excellent build! A battery powered rechargeable mattress inflator should also suffice and would make this more portable for camping which would reduce the need to carry more flammable camping fuels.

He's a good craftsman and fabricator, but let me see if I get this straight...to save the cost of cooking-gas, you burn used cooking oil, but to do so you need electricity. Savings? Then, to build that, you need: a drill press, an arc-welder, several angle-grinders, vises, clamps,hand-tools and then on top of that, again, to use it you need electricity, and a blower.....and a propane supply, because if you've ever tried to light cooking oil with matches... ;)

I would not recommend cut resistant gloves, while using any rotating machines, specially not the drill press.. Have seen the bad side of that... otherwise, great video!
@@mrfm-qu9yn if you lightly touch a rotating saw blade without a glove you will get a cut. If you put a glove on and lightly touch a saw blade your whole hand will get dragged into it and you’ll probably lose it.
Cooking oil is actually very bad for us, but these food companies have created false information to make us think it's healthier for you. All cooking oil inflames your arteries. Especially vegetable oil. Instead, you should use butter or lard. You'll live longer.

На самом деле утилизация отработанного растительного масла - это серьезная проблема, так как масло слитое например из консерв или после фритюра использовать в пищу либо нежелательно(в случае консерв), либо вообще опасно(отработанный фритюр). В то же время, бездумно выливать его нельзя так как он засоряет канализацию. Вместе с тем, это неплохое топливо и если есть твердотопливник - то грех не использовать его например для растопки. Конечно говорить о полной "замене газа" не совсем корректно, но научится использовать "кухонные отходы" для экономии денег - как минимум разумно.
в Швейцарии многие домохощяйки его собирают и потом сдают на бесрлатную утилизацию (в дальнейшем его могут использовать как на ТЭЦ для выработки тепла/эл.энергии или при производстве цемента в кач. топлива).

Кроме того, этим же маслом можно пропитывать например столбики деревянные чтобы меньше гнили. масло от фритюра старое подсолнечное для этого вообще отлично идет, так как оно окислившееся, считай уже наполовину натуральная олифа.

Esta estufa debe usar un ventilador para soplar aire en la cámara de combustión para crear alta presión, haciendo que el aceite se queme completamente sin humo ni olor. Este ventilador tiene una capacidad muy pequeña y no consume electricidad.
Pretty cool idea but the use of power for the fan makes it useless for 99% of the people who would make this to actually use it. Also, pretty complex to build for anyone else. Id love to see more, simpler ideas that use the same recycled fuel source(s)
@@reggietheroman it increases the oxygen to fuel ratio which makes the oil burn more efficiently. A lot like how a Bunsen burner goes blue and very hot when the holes are opened. When the air and fuel are mixed before it burns, it will burn very cleanly

Why are people so concerned about his using electricity for the fan. Its a small fan and can be powered through a small solar panel. This is a great innovation for rural as a substitute for wood and dung stoves. Plenty of restaurants flushing used oil into drains in most countries. One can just go collect these oils and make good use of it. Pretty impressed with his innovation and skills. Legend.

Можно сделать проще испльзуя принцып паяльной лампы. И тогда эта печка будет спосоьна и отапливать помещения. У меня по этому принцыпу работала обычная дровяная печь. Отработанного масла полно и дров не надо.
@@vezdehod840 бурельян он, наверное, имеет ввиду. У паяльной лампы две особенности, подача топлива воздухом и нагрев топлива перед подачей. Подача топлива накачкой воздуха тут не нужна. Значит дело в подогреве. Внутри трубки- горелки по кругу идет мелкая трубка, через которую бензин/керосин проходит по пути к жиклеру, и в ней нагревается. Трубка вокруг топки, в этой трубке нагревается жидкость. Чем то похоже на бурельяны к водяному отоплению. Наверное это имеется ввиду, больше ничего связанного с отоплением и устройством паяльной лампы в голову не приходит.

Why only used cooking oil, that can burn non edible oils as well like Karanj, Neem, Mahua ,, Jatrofa etc. Which are available in plenty in India, but not utilised much other then in soap making and for bio diesel, and the same are eco friendly as well.

A good rule of thumb is never wear anything like that around any rotating equipment ever.

@Rubbik Esférico Gracias. Lo que no sabes es el ventilador. Esta estufa debe usar un ventilador para soplar aire en la cámara de combustión para crear alta presión, haciendo que el aceite se queme completamente sin humo ni olor. Este ventilador tiene una capacidad muy pequeña y no consume electricidad.

but the use of power for the fan makes it useless for 99% of the people who would make this to actually use it.
Also, pretty complex to build for anyone else.

u brought up a wonderful issue we can always use a hand fan maybe,
can you explain what the fan actually does? is it just to make sure the fire gets enough oxygen?
@@reggietheroman it increases the oxygen to fuel ratio which makes the oil burn more efficiently. A lot like how a Bunsen burner goes blue and very hot when the holes are opened. When the air and fuel are mixed before it burns, it will burn very cleanly

@@reggietheroman It would burn just above the surface of the oil, and would rely only on natural convection to bring in new air. Basic principle as blowing on embers/coal for a hotter burn.
This is great. If you didn’t need a fan, this would be excellent for camping.

very nice idea, it also works for heating an old stove. I don't know, however, what smells it emits during combustion. It's a matter for the owner and the neighborhood. :)

Why are people so concerned about his using electricity for the fan. Its a small fan and can be powered through a small solar panel. This is a great innovation for rural as a substitute for wood and dung stoves. Plenty of restaurants flushing used oil into drains in most countries. One can just go collect these oils and make good use of it. Pretty impressed with his innovation and skills. Legend.

Можно сделать проще испльзуя принцып паяльной лампы. И тогда эта печка будет спосоьна и отапливать помещения. У меня по этому принцыпу работала обычная дровяная печь. Отработанного масла полно и дров не надо.

У паяльной лампы две особенности, подача топлива воздухом и нагрев топлива перед подачей.
Подача топлива накачкой воздуха тут не нужна.
Значит дело в подогреве. Внутри трубки- горелки по кругу идет мелкая трубка, через которую бензин/керосин проходит по пути к жиклеру, и в ней нагревается.
Трубка вокруг топки, в этой трубке нагревается жидкость.
Чем то похоже на бурельяны к водяному отоплению.
Наверное это имеется ввиду, больше ничего связанного с отоплением и устройством паяльной лампы в голову не приходит.

Why only used cooking oil, that can burn non edible oils as well like Karanj, Neem, Mahua ,, Jatrofa etc. Which are available in plenty in India, but not utilised much other then in soap making and for bio diesel, and the same are eco friendly as well.
