    I'm astounded by the amount of manual handling is involved to fabricate these. You can almost say they're hand crafted. Excellent!

    I used to be a pyrotechnician and build fireworks and later I ran a few fireworks stands around the 4th of July. This guy talks about making coolers the way I would talk about fireworks. Just so excited to show you all this different facets of the process.

    Thanks for the video. Based on this we ordered an 88qt Basecamp last year. This summer we ordered a Starter Bundle (48qt cooler, basket and pack ice). They shipped the cooler and basket with an IOU note for the Pack Ice. That was 6 weeks ago. Emailed support twice this week with no response. What a bummer.

      Glad you got a good cooler but bummer about the customer service. I haven't had that experience when I reached out to them. Have you heard back yet? You could give them a good old fashioned phone call. They're a small business with people in the office still.

    • @NinerK
      @NinerK 2 місяці тому

      @@theoutdoorempire right on, thanks for the reply. I’ve tried calling but unable to get someone on the phone. They are out of stock on the ice packs; they did reply to email after a couple of follow up requests.
      They have been responsive before; I think they just had a lot going on this month.

    Thank you for the videos, I ordered a 48 because of the handle material, and the reverse rubber latches; just a well-made product. It is sad I have to retire the '73 Coleman though, you get attached to the darn things.

    • @theoutdoorempire

    I wonder if a thermal imaging camera would be useful to validate the foam spreading into all the nooks and crannies as opposed to using a flashlight. After all, it is an exothermic reaction right?

    • @theoutdoorempire
      @theoutdoorempire  Рік тому +1

      That could be an interesting way to go about it. I wonder if they would have to apply some sort of heat to see the differential, however. By this point in the process both the foam and outer cooler shell are essentially the same temperature as the ambient air.

    The gasket pays off in sandy, windy conditions, like at the beach & dunes and if in the back of a truck on dirt roads. Plus they won't leak if they flip over.

  • @jasonknight1085

    A more interesting test would be to crack open a coke from each cooler every day, and see which one is colder. That's the actual important number. The visible presence of ice is not a good indicator of if the cooler is doing what's actually important: cooling your foodstuffs.
    In theory things should favor the higher thermal mass, but the one draining could see evaporative cooling and/or sublimation play more of a factor. Though the air contacting the cans would not transfer or retain cold as well as the water.
    It's why adding water to your ice in a cooler is a great way to cool your beverages faster. Surface area.

    I used to work in lifetime’s factory and they are light years ahead of you. Almost everything is automated and they crank out 1,000’s of coolers a day. Cool to see the difference though!
