Life here is expensive but this is also a place where people make fortunes by creating and growing their companies. How much does it cost to live a month/day in your city?
In India, living expenses are cheaper than US. Here it's 250$ per month, on an average! But the income is lower too!!! (P.S. iPhone costs same in India...as in US 😂)
I live in the SF Bay Area. Nobody lives on a daily basis like how you just described. If they did, they are either extremely wealthy or a tourist for the day.
He’s exactly I’ve lived here my whole life and it’s not she described it. She’s living wealthier life than many others. But she does have the right lifestyle if you make more I guess
I'm most disgusted by the $4.25 tea.... it's a .35 cent tea bag and hot water. When I worked in Manhattan's Financial District it was equally expensive. But you know why people leave their office and spend $4 on coffee and tea? An excuse for us non-smokers to get out of the office for a break.
Yep do everything yourself and pay less and save more. But if you got your own company and make a lot of money, it doesn’t matter that your spending a lot eating out.
I don't like that argument. I can easily say that I can grow that plant for free at home and that I can also collect free water when it rains. We pay for convinience.
@A E its like shit in every place, not just chinatown. i work for a very "high end" catering in san francisco, the kitchen is pretty nasty, ive seen rats and all kinds of stuff and they rarely wash the produce that comes... i usually a "chef assistant" at events for this catering, we do a lot of parties for apple, facebook, twitter, all kind of tech companies... the food looks "good" visually, but most are extremely dirty, specially the veggies, its never washed, the chef just tell us to cut the dirty part, and make it look nice by missing with other stuff that is also unwashed and then add a dressing. most of the chefs dont even change gloves, or even wear gloves.... i used to change alot but i got called out by the lead chef for "wasting" gloves, so we arent allowed to switch gloves if we are doing salads, just use the same glove to make a different salad,.... so gross. And the hot food from the hot boxes are super dirty, the sheet trays are always dirty, when i touch those sheet trays my gloves always has black spots, idk what it is but its just filthy! this is what we serve people and they think they're eating clean "gourmet" meals. lol
I used to live there. Payed 700 rent for a very small room. Rode a bicycle everywhere and took Bart. $6 per day for Bart for my trips. Was a server at a Brazilian steak house and had 16 different meats to choose from and a salad bar for free for lunch each day. Made about $200-300 (don’t forget the 30% income tax) per day as a server. Worked full time. Food cost per month was $800 because I ate out often after or before work or on off days. Other expenses cost about 1500-1800 per month for me. $3120-3320 was my average outflow and 3500 my income. Barely was able to save money and then holidays or events or sudden things would wreck my savings. Soo... don’t move there unless you have a great job that you make at least like 8000-12000+ per month or your life will be pretty tuff.
$800 a month on eating out? That's $9600 a year. I live in LA in a really nice part of town. Me and my wife maybe spend a quarter of that on eating out. I guess those years as a poor doctoral student really shaped my spending habits...
I dont think you could find a small room in SF for $700 now. I live in San Jose and you cant find a small room here for less than $800 and you would be lucky to find one for that. Most rooms for rent here are $1000 - $1500
If you're really from San Francisco, you'd purchase your necessities and food from Costco, Safeway, Trader Joes, and Target. The last place you'd get your toothpaste from convenience stores or Amazon Go. This is less than respresentative of how San Francisco residents live.
I feel rich paying $500 a month Rent and Food in Taiwan. I love it, really friendly people. I've had a few problems in San fran because i don't look like i work here. I got shoo'd away by a driver because i said thank you with my hands to him for letting me walk as he was pulling out of the gas station and a few dirty looks at me, i may just be ugly though but different locations have different levels of these experiences of mine.
I was a San Francisco native. I lived there for about 45 years of my life. When I lost my rent-controlled apartment in 2013 I decided that the financial stress to stay in the Bay Area was not worth it. I moved to the South Bay in Los Angeles. At times, I miss San Francisco and my old friends, but sometimes in life, you gotta do what you gotta do =(
As someone from the bay area and is a student in SF this video makes me sad. SF is a fantastic city, expensive yes, but average people do not live like this. The public transit in SF and the bay area is really good for the USA, MUNI (bus & underground in SF) and BART (for the east bay, not north bay 😒) is my preferred way to get around and is reasonably priced. Who the hell shops at Amazon go?? Costco, Trader Joe's, and whole foods is the way to go. And you can get so many amazing meals for around 15-20$, I would never pay more than 20$ unless it was a really nice restaurant. And ALWAYS tip 20%, as someone who has worked in a restaurant in the Bay we live off of tips. As I have lived in France for two years and have travelled most of Europe, San Francisco is one of my favorite places in the world. (And yes there is a huge drug and homeless problem)
@@Producingmoments No it's not livable and the homeless/drug situation is out of control. it's like living in a poor third world country. You will encounter and see them everyday and everywhere you go.
@@Producingmoments yeah so you went huh? It's pretty bad. She didn't show you grown men shitting in the streets in the video and needles, needless everywhere...lol
I look at this and I’m just amazed, I live in Cleveland now, just bought a really nice 1960s highrise 2 bedroom, 2 bath renovated condo right on Lake Erie in lakewood, overlooking the water and a view of Cleveland downtown just 4 miles down the shoreway, in a very nice neighborhood for $95,000 and $600 a month condo fee. It’s a great town, great restaurants , progressive, very affordable lifestyle and lots to do, San Francisco is a wonderful city, but this place is just so much more livable. One can have a good life, on just an average salary ( 62000yr. ) and the stress and competitiveness is just not there to the same degree.
Based on what i just saw in that short video. You live there more like a tourist then actual resident. could be done 1/3 of your stated prices. Easily.
Shes probably well to do, but living in the Civic doesn't make you wealthy but rather well to do transient. Its temporary and an absolutely wonderful experience for contract workers.
Bitch probably makes 150 thousand a year or honeys up her husband for the dough. Me and my buddy pull in around 7 grand a month and have a humble little spot for $1800 in the mission near bernal heights
I lived in that building you live in and I paid $4500/m for just a studio! I made an apartment tour and listed all the pros and cons of living there :)
@@digital42082 She's probably living with many other people so they split the cost, but you can even google the address and see the prices on their website - studio starts currently at $4743 a month (8th floor, I was on the 31st floor so it's more $$)
I worked in SF. One of the most disgusting cities in America. If you enjoy drinking coffee and having homeless people do very disgusting things in front of your family, then SF is for you! Me? I’d rather live on a 10 acre property in Texas for a quarter of the cost and where I don’t have to worry about stepping on human shit on my way to the office.
@@elizabethbennet4791 I'd never get a NYC apartment, overpriced and its ugly. The nice ones are small or big but the big ones are insane, to pay for one of those you might as well live in like Auburn or Rochester and get a HOUSE.
In India we get 1.5gb per day unlimited calls and unlimited messaged and it cost like $5 US dollars for 3 months lol.... that's so experience over there
@@Rathian1 have you actually been to NYC?? I kinda cant believe what you just said. just for one thing, I have never seen one homeless tent in Central Park.
You've made some mistakes in comparing. The Financial District/North Beach is nothing like Central Park. Its more akin to lower Manhattan near Battery Park. Central Park is a unique thing since its so deep within a heavily developed area. You can't even compare it to Golden Gate Park since that is a very suburbanized area compared to Central Park's skyscrapers. In terms of cleanliness San Francisco beats NYC because we've got less homeless and its all concentrated in two parts of the city compared to being spread out between all the boroughs of NYC. ( www.wnyc.org/story/more-homeless-people-live-new-york-any-other-city/ ) In terms of being greener we've got about 400 more acres of parks within the city that don't include our beaches which are well kept for the public also. PS: If you come visit or next time I'm in the city (NYC) I can give you a better run down over coffee LOL
okay just saying as a bay area native, BART does not simply connect San Francisco with "the North" LOL! There are no white walkers beyond the wall lmfao. Bart connects sf with the east bay, hayward livermore etc. North technically refers to Marin which you either gotta drive or take a bus across the golden gate. am I wrong?
@@SiliconValleyGirl I'm a huge fan of your videos, when I'm back in the city I think we should collaborate on some videos. I'm a classical ballet dancer!
Elisha Nilsen haha people in Marin don’t want Bart people coming over. I grew up there, and only realized as an adult how snobbish most people in Marin are.
Victor Catalan Richmond isn’t the “north bay” and I said that Marin people are snobbish, especially people from mill valley, tiburon or Ross. I didn’t say anything about people in San Francisco.
As a Bay Area native this video is very interesting to me. Its kinda like someone whose 1/3 acclimated to an area giving a tour to someone whose never been there. Its amazingly charming and showcases a small part of the city which is the northeast side of San Francisco near the Financial District normally referred to as North Beach (famous tourist trap). Bart (Bay Area tram) and Muni (the bus system) are used regularly by just about everyone which can be strange when you see quite wealthy locals in the same bus as the deeply impoverished. San Francisco has a lot of resources for the homeless so the city is filled with them so get used to that, but its more so in North Beach then the nicer town house areas. The city is famous for being very green and its a proud point most locals have, but it also is a sore spot for people who don't own property in the area. Your not actually seeing the wealthiest part of the city believe it or not. The Presidio is the most sought after location. There are plenty of nice affordable places to live within the city and I'd say the average budget isn't nearly that large unless your really trying to experience every bit of food in the area (I highly recommend Original Joe's since its one of the oldest and most respected restaurants in that North Beach area btw). Also Silicon Valley isn't really San Francisco in case people were wondering. People do commute from there, but its kinda rough in terms of time going back and forth from SF to Santa Clara. Heres a really good tip for visiting. Visit during Hardly Strictly/Fleet Week for a crazy good time, Pride is also famous since we're kinda the mecca of gay culture in the US, Bay to Breakers which is a famous run across the city where people dress up in costumes and essentially create a moving sports/party event, and the last one is the Folsom Street Fair if your "adventurous". Note: wrote this up at 4am so apologies if mistakes were made
Im a native but I understand what she's coming from. I go to the trendy expensive restaurants too often as well as staying true to my neighborhoods long standing businesses. I can spend more than 200 dollars a day but I'm not that crazy. You must admit our food industry is world class. Some of us are willing to pay for it. I'm planning on leaving and moving inland and rely on Bart for the commute. Im willing to moving to save more of my money for retirement so I have something to give my family in my absence. I love San Francisco but a nice place to visit, living there is a little different.
I'm also a native and I'm not sure what you are talking about regarding plenty of affordable places to live in the city? What's affordable to you? The cheapest rent for a one bdrm is $3400, it was on the news a few weeks ago. People who have lived here for a long time (SF bay area) and own a house or live in someone else's house may be out of the loop on how expensive the housing has gotten. Honestly if you're middle class or under and have any hope of buying a house for less than 1 million dollars...the bay area is probably not where you are planning to settle down long term.
@@chrisdardar9445 Probably not, anybody who really is rich has a nose surgery and sorry but in her case I would have also ear platic surgery. I'm Mexican, rich and I don't look like this, sorry, no offense it is just obvious
@@YellowFlowerofTexas im from a rich neighborhood in SA, i know plenty of people girls etc that could easily get a nose job plastic surgery etc and dont. Not getting plastic surgery is not 100 % sign of not having money. But latin America culture (besides religion, extreme corruption and very close families/warm people) is all about looks, youth, sex and cash. Not much substance. But I love it in south america, those people are so pretty naturally they don't need plastic surgery
Okay so when I was in San Francisco traveling with my dad I really didn’t get how expensive it was because I wasn’t paying for much. On my second visit was when I realized how actually expensive San Francisco was. The company my dad owns actually had to move out of San Francisco because it was too expensive to rent offices. The company was bringing in about 5 million a year in profit, so seeing my dad move an office out of there shocked me because they have a whole floor of offices in Manhattan.
A lot of people in the Bay Area don’t actually live in San Francisco. Many people live outside of San Francisco and commute to work. For example, in the East Bay, rent is cheaper and can also have less crime than San Francisco. BART from East Bay to SF is only 30 minutes.
I went to starbucks to get a hot chocolate and was shocked at how high the prices were. I only cave in the 4 bucks because i didn't wanna seem cheap and walk right out lol. And it was medicre at best. You can literally but a 6-8 pack of hot chocolate for $1-2 and it tastes exactly the same. Starbucks is trash and overrated.
Saw one of your videos on Linguatrip a year or more ago and yt sent me here and I was like I have seen her somewhere before. The start was a little dull but then the video got real and quite sincere. Nicely done. You are so so lucky. By the way, that $400 health tag was the biggest shocker to me, that is sooo cheap in CA.
San Francisco is super expensive but with that said, i seen several areas that she could have saved in this video. 1. COOK! At home. 2. At&T or metro pcs for a cell under $50 a month. 3. Grocery shop at Aldi or some other cheap store. 4. Get toiletries at the dollar store like toothpaste. 5. Find a cheaper place to eat out. 6. Eat off the value menu at McDonald’s 7. Walk more. The only thing in this video that was super expensive and justified was the rent.
Why can't they just put the ACTUAL price on items in US stores? It's so shitty and confusing that you end up paying a lot more because of the taxes. Would it be so hard to calculate the final price?
It's a psychological thing. If they showed the actual price then you might not buy it. If they show the nominal price then you might buy it, and then when the register says its 8% extra, you end up buying it anyway.
@@DewTime I remember like 20 years ago, I was eating at a McDonald's and a woman at the register put up such a fight about the price of her meal not matching the menu, that you would have thought they murdered her first born. They kept trying to calmly explain sales tax to her, but she didn't want to hear it
Not very realistic... no one buys mcdonalds, $5 coffees, eats out, uses uber/train every day. Nonetheless the costs are similar in other areas. I think 2.5k for a shared appt is high...surely there is a cheaper way that's less fancy.
living in car. 2.5k is cheap in SF actually... same as NYC... super expensive because anyone and their grandma wants to get rich quick here. LA as well attracting wanna be stars that fail.
Regarding 12:36, $5,308 monthly cost to live in San Francisco translates to $63,696 per year. That means a wage earner’s annual gross salary needs to be $93,500 which is reduced by income tax deductions for Federal, Social Security, Medicare, California & San Francisco residents.
That rent is at least $4000. I was looking for an apartment and d if it’s new with new appliances it’s very expensive. The old buildings 1 bedroom appr are between $3000-$3500 right now
Jenny Herzog i live in a insect infested apartment with 4 people 1 bedroom 1 kitchen and 1 bathroom and I guess a living room? It cost about $10,100 a year but soon where moving to a nicer apartment with vents, no bugs and the bathtub isn’t gonna be clogged. That’s life in Sacramento :)
I think we Asians can survive in SF. because all we need is just a 0.50 c cup noodles for breakfast, 5.00 rice bowl meal for lunch and a 5.00 Chinese dinner in the evening while renting on a nice apartment along with a family member or friends. Now that's practical living. I think this video is meant for an upper level class people but this doesn't reflect to the majority at all.
All depends on the district, I can do the same day in tenderloin and Potrero Hill for about 1/3 of that. Granted the day would end with Hep C and a police report
We took care of my parents and managed to give my children great experience growing up. Lower middle class. Gave them the generics to be hard workers. Helped with their education. Our daughter is an RN and our son is an Entrepreneur. This has made it possible for the family to live in San Francisco. We are so blessed with good genetics given to us by our parents.
Here in France we have for 0.99euros Calls/Sms/Mss in illimited and 100Go of 4G+ ( per month and when you pass 100Go you have 3G+ in illimited) in almost all around the world even in USA
I can't get through this. I tried, but this is such a privileged and sanitized take on living in San Francisco. I do live in San Francisco-over 20 years now-and if she is living on average $177 daily here, she is not good at managing her money and definitely comes from a more affluent background.
Smh everyone in the comments is very harsh on this topic of SF. I’ve lived here all of my life and I know there’s a lot of waste and homeless people, but every place has it’s flaws. We all got our own bias towards the place we call home and just bc you’ve visited SF or stayed here for a short period of time doesn’t mean u actually know the place so...
honey, I live in NYC, and my monthly expenses are $1.200 - Rent Included - I don't eat out, I cook and I take the train, I live 5 minutes from the 3 train.. the things you do in SF are outrageously expensive, you should do a realistic video, for a person who lives in the real word, not a Russian rich girl
Btw- Amazon Go was first opened in Seattle where Amazon is headquartered, not San Francisco. San Francisco is however a trailblazer in terms of eliminating smoking from restaurants, eliminating plastic bags, raising minimum wage, LGBT rights, breaking color barrier (first Asian mayor for major American city), sugary drinks tax, and many other things...
We think the scope at which this documentary attacks these issues is beautiful and worth applauding! We really wanted to focus specifically on how musicians fit into the puzzle of a transitioning San Francisco. How does the creative community react in the face of growing rent? How does this affect the musical output of the Bay Area? We tried to explore that in our piece here @
Have you been to Norway?....now, that is expensive. We who live here are paid very well in general regardless of the job. But I can only imagine what foreigners must think, especially if they have a limited budget.
@Danny dragon you are referring to a single instance where a construction crew emptied a portable toilet and left a bag on the sidewalk. It hasn't happened again.
What's scary is that I've seen big cities in India, South Africa and many developing nations which had that reputation now douse it off. But, San Fran, damn...
India has 4 times the population of the US. So, you can forgive India with just 1/3rd of land area of the US. Imagine when US population becomes 1 billion. Get ready for a third world shit hole
We love SF!!! We live in LA and went to SF for 3 nights. Couldn't believe how expensive it was to go out to eat. Starbucks Coffee in our hotel was $8.00! 😳 SF is so worth it!!! I'll do it again and again!!!
Just to make it clear to everybody. Silicon Valley is not San Francisco. Stanford is not San Francisco. When talking about SF, you are talking about the actual city, what is mostly north of Daly City. SF is the actual city that people live in. Yes it is expensive, but you can manage it if you get something decent. It can be expensive in any place if you want to make it expensive. It is give and take. San Jose, Silicon Valley is a suburb and they definitely don't have the characteristics of SF. I got depressed when I went to San Jose.
Heyyy Marina! Can u plzz make a video about your Daily work Routine?? Like what keeps u going from morning to night, and how u manage it all. Thanks ❤️
BART doesn't go to the North. It goes to the East Bay, and to SFO (OK, to Milbrae, actually). And are you aware of MUNI? You just showed a MUNI bus. Have you wondered what that is? Cheaper way to get around town than Uber. You should get to know it!
This piece is the most UN -San Francisco I've ever seen . It's more like how to live like a techie who makes $300,000 a year. And has lived here soooooo long - like 3 years
All the costs you've shown in this video are almost identical to that of downtown Toronto, minus the insurance. Only major difference here in Toronto is that people even working in tech usually earn under 80k annually and our taxes are much higher. Like hell, our university cafe has coffee that ranges from $3.50-$7 dollars which is ridiculous...
I was just thinking the same and then I read your comment. Canada in general is overburdened with high prices and taxes, many of them hidden. In addition to paying comparatively more for most goods, taxes are additionally added for any "services" one uses. When it comes to healthcare, no one can give a straight answer on the amount Canadians pay (through taxation), but it is generally agreed that it is very high. Even then, there are long waiting lists. San Fransisco is like Toronto, although it is sunnier and warmer in San Fran.
@@canofanger Rent is more expensive in SF, but condo prices are more expensive in downtown Toronto. The other annoying thing about Toronto is too many Indian and Pakistanis and Chinese. I do not feel like I am living in a Western country.
halfvolley11 why would you say that there’s so many Chinese/Indian/ etc? That’s very unnecessary to say. Welcome to Canada and welcome to the one of most diverse cities out there.
Many of us have rental control though!…I live here since 2012. I pay 2600 for a super large 2bedroom apt, with unit in washer and dryer. I live right in the heart of the mission. But also one block from the market st Whole Food
I would like to talk about health insurance in Germany. When you talked about a rate of €50 per month, you must have been a student. Because once you are an employee you will pay about 14% of your salary on health-insurance. As someone who is self-employed even more. So the rate you are paying now is not that crazy.
The city is so diverse forreal. She was only downtown in the areas around the building she shot the video in. So prices tend to be more high. But yeah if you got the money like that to use it can be quite expensive. She spends what I earn in. The life in San Francisco. I need to get on this tech hype.
I love your channel name! I live in a small town called Martinez, 37 minutes from San Francisco. There are 4 town connecting each other, Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Concord, and of course, Martinez. I've grown up in San Francisco (I'm 13) and I'm very lucky that I can just DRIVE to SF. Some people fly thousands of miles just to come. I find that crazy! Also your apartment is SO NICE! What is the apartment complex called? You have such a nice apartment with all the nice big windows with the sunlight coming in and a view of the Bay Bridge!
If a person pays $2500 per person, that is US$5,000 per person for a studio apartment. In Spore, you can get a 3 bedroom condo apartment (resort swimming pool and tennis court, this is the older format, not the newer type) for USD $2100 with the subway station 100m away down the street for return trip to downtown for USD$3. Well, where you eat and drink is really up to you your budget, but USD5 can get quite a good local meal at a hawker centre. Spore is expensive if you own a car, smoke, drink heavily, clubbing and education for children (it is the tuition that's expensive and more so if you go to an International Private School). A massage is about USD$37/ hr at a reasonable spa and USD$290 for airflight for a getaway to Thailand. I am not boasting as SF is really a nice place and Spore is really humid but really your choice. Depends on where the job is. If the job is paying and inflow is bigger than outflow, no issues. If no job, then a $50/mth rental can kill !
I really like your explanation of prices and your spending on a variety of things like low cost breakfast, McDonald’s, tea, rent for a beautiful shared apartment... very realistic overview of what someone may spend per month in SF. Well done, good job
Don't buy the tea. Don't buy McDonald's Don't shop at the amazing go place. You have already saved money. Take Lyft or Uber SHARED/ POOL cheaper. Stop being a hipster and just buy a damn HOME. Oh look... I just saved you a bunch of money by switching to GEICO.
Lol this person saying all these must be from nowhere in Texas or nowhere in the US lol saying buy a house like only cost $50,000 lol they never been to city before
San Francisco is not overrated. It is an experience of a lifetime. You learn a lot and take that experience with your wherever you are. You are lucky to be in San Francisco. I have memories of SF like it was yesterday and I cherish it everyday that I was there. I still derive inspiration and energy from it. Everyone takes piece of San Francisco with them wherever they are and until the day they die.
kakkoiBakemono it became overrated thanks to the tech industry. Causing the city to over populate, bland outsiders, higher cost of living, and an increase of homeless people. My family has been here for over 50 years and as of now Frisco’s charm has been going down the drain
asdf211 I would agree, but the only thing I would add is that the lifestyle is unsustainable. Many people don't stay single, or not have kids. When those things happen, its off to a suburb or another state because the costs of living are the highest in the nation / world.
@@HeadStronger-HS I agree David. When people wanna settle down, they generally move out of SF since most people are there temporarily, but it is an experience if you are young and get something new.
Rent for a standard 3bdr house in Silicon Valley is around 5,500$ right now (of course you could easily spend 15,000$ if you like). You can check it for yourselves on any real estate homepage. San Francisco seems to be a little bit cheaper. But let's be honest, that apartment will cost you way more than 5,000$ / month. It is insane!
I live in Castro Valley in the East Bay about 30 miles (48 KM) from S.F. It is centrally located between SF and SJ/Milpitas/Sunnyvale, etc. I pay $3,200 a month on Mortgage + Property Taxes on a 5 bedroom, 3 bath house with over 2,832 sq. feet of living space, and a 7,600 sq. ft lot. The point is this, you can get a lot more for your $$$ in the East Bay. Now granted it is still expensive, the houses in Castro Valley is still expensive around approximately ~$1 Million. :( But still cheaper than S.F.
$4 for oatmeal with milk and fruit? I live in Los Angeles and that breakfast would likely cost me under $2, shop at discount supermarkets like Trader Joe's or Aldi.
I live in Manhattan an visit SF frequently. This is just not my experience in either cities. You can enjoy and get by a lot cheaper. I guess it depends on your expectations.
Well you need to learn how to find some better values. The thrift shops have designer items for 10 percent of retail. Wealthy people donate nice things. Go to In and Out Burgers for a better hamburger taste and deal. Get your produce at a Farmer's Market at the end of the day when they are packing up. Share a house in a neighborhood instead of a high rise. Eat in neighborhood restaurants; those high prices are directly related to the rent. I live in a shared house with a back yard garden. There is some street parking and transit is just steps from my door. I can walk to work but, unlimited day pass on transit is $22 including $7 cable car rides 'til midnight. Don't get driven the wrong way on a one way with a half asleep out of towner uber idiot. You are young and inexperienced. I enjoy a slow transaction person to person, not a robotic interaction with a corporation. I live a great life in San Francisco for 30 percent of what you spend, including unlimited international calls and high speed data.
Thank you, Don Mertle, for your comment. Even now, I remember how BREATHING the morning air while walking to work from Pine Street was exhilarating! That was many years ago.
The food ,toothpaste, or grocery people should not worry about. The prices are the same in any major city. It's S.F. rent or property. One of the highest in the country. Unless you lucky and born with property. Or rich. Disadvantage is windy, down hill up hill down and up again, unexpected earthquakes. Advantages. Visit to experience it. Bart, good train system. Surrounded by other beautiful city or suburbs. Rent a car and/or catch the train.
Please notice she's filming entirely during the day. Daylight hours are when her co-tenants are all AWAY at their day jobs earning money to be able to afford to pay rent there.
The Caltrain information is incorrect... SF to San Jose is 4 zones and a day pass would be $21. There are no passes for BART. Fares are point to point.. As American transit systems go Muni service is frequent and inexpensive. If you use it daily the monthly pass is $78 or $2.60 a day if you want to use BART between Balboa Park and Embarcadero it's only $16 more. But even if you don't use it every day you can ride all day for $5 with a day pass using the Muni app. In fact if you used Muni you'd probably save more than that but shopping at less expensive places... You can buy organic oatmeal at Rainbow grocery at less than $1 a pound and buy fruit either on Mission or on Stockton from one of the small produce markets for half the price of grocery stores. Convenience stores and stores like Walgreens and CVS are probably the worst place to shop. In season you can shop at the Heart of the City farmers market in Civic Center or the Alemany Farmers Market to get quality produce at much lower prices.
Over rated. They must do something about the housing. It's almost to rich for itself. It really shows the greed of America, also the health insurance situation we should be ashamed.
There are a few actually. A dollar store on market next to the civic center bart station. A bunch of Daiso's, which is like a Japanese dollar store lots of awesome stuff.
Plus what you're paying for is the rent and the labor. If you just want a cup of tea you make it yourself and the cost is virtually nothing.
An english breakfast tea bag, house brand, is around 5 cents US.
So insightful!
Yep do everything yourself and pay less and save more. But if you got your own company and make a lot of money, it doesn’t matter that your spending a lot eating out.
I don't like that argument. I can easily say that I can grow that plant for free at home and that I can also collect free water when it rains. We pay for convinience.

@A E its like shit in every place, not just chinatown. i work for a very "high end" catering in san francisco, the kitchen is pretty nasty, ive seen rats and all kinds of stuff and they rarely wash the produce that comes... i usually a "chef assistant" at events for this catering, we do a lot of parties for apple, facebook, twitter, all kind of tech companies... the food looks "good" visually, but most are extremely dirty, specially the veggies, its never washed, the chef just tell us to cut the dirty part, and make it look nice by missing with other stuff that is also unwashed and then add a dressing. most of the chefs dont even change gloves, or even wear gloves.... i used to change alot but i got called out by the lead chef for "wasting" gloves, so we arent allowed to switch gloves if we are doing salads, just use the same glove to make a different salad,.... so gross. And the hot food from the hot boxes are super dirty, the sheet trays are always dirty, when i touch those sheet trays my gloves always has black spots, idk what it is but its just filthy! this is what we serve people and they think they're eating clean "gourmet" meals. lol

Georgia: $4,000 a month to live in a castle😏
Right!
Guess what? People are willing to pay to NOT live in Phoenix.

( www.wnyc.org/story/more-homeless-people-live-new-york-any-other-city/ )
In terms of being greener we've got about 400 more acres of parks within the city that don't include our beaches which are well kept for the public also.
PS: If you come visit or next time I'm in the city (NYC) I can give you a better run down over coffee LOL
okay just saying as a bay area native, BART does not simply connect San Francisco with "the North" LOL! There are no white walkers beyond the wall lmfao.

Ya. And where are the homeless, that scream and threaten your life all while pulling down thier pants and taking a dump.

4. Get toiletries at the dollar store like toothpaste.
5. Find a cheaper place to eat out.
6. Eat off the value menu at McDonald’s
7. Walk more.

Why can't they just put the ACTUAL price on items in US stores? It's so shitty and confusing that you end up paying a lot more because of the taxes. Would it be so hard to calculate the final price?
They choose not to. They also charge you 9/10ths of a cent on each gallon of gasoline, whatever else the price is.
It's a psychological thing. If they showed the actual price then you might not buy it. If they show the nominal price then you might buy it, and then when the register says its 8% extra, you end up buying it anyway.

What's scary is that I've seen big cities in India, South Africa and many developing nations which had that reputation now douse it off. But, San Fran, damn...
New Beginnings well they got kicked out of soma .... where are they supposed to go
India has 4 times the population of the US. So, you can forgive India with just 1/3rd of land area of the US. Imagine when US population becomes 1 billion. Get ready for a third world shit hole
How much do you spend on knee high sewer boots so you can walk the streets without worry about where you step
LMFAO BIG FACTS!!!!
As a born and raised Bay Area resident, I can say this video not one you should take seriously as typical for living in SF.
We love SF!!! We live in LA and went to SF for 3 nights. Couldn't believe how expensive it was to go out to eat. Starbucks Coffee in our hotel was $8.00! 😳
SF is so worth it!!!
Can you make a video of what it’s like being homeless and living in San Fran
Heyyy Marina!
Can u plzz make a video about your Daily work Routine??
Like what keeps u going from morning to night, and how u manage it all.
Thanks ❤️
BART doesn't go to the North. It goes to the East Bay, and to SFO (OK, to Milbrae, actually). And are you aware of MUNI? You just showed a MUNI bus. Have you wondered what that is? Cheaper way to get around town than Uber. You should get to know it!
Just curious: what would somebody who doesn’t have a job in Silicon Valley have to do to withstand those prices?
I live here and I work 2 jobs and have roommates.
Live like a poor college student.
Same breakfast for 20 years. Seriously?
She's a keeper.
Ikr!! Her poor taste buds... Sure strawberries and honey (sounds yummy).
She lives a healthy life style, she said it.
Then went to fucking mcshitnalds
She lies and that part I fast forwarded to the actual prices of things since she's so out of touch and boring.
And she said she's in her '20s' lol
Tim Hortons or Mcdonalds have coffee for around $1.50, I don't know where you are buying coffee from....
Please. Rent in toronto is half the cost of SF
Many of us have rental control though!…I live here since 2012. I pay 2600 for a super large 2bedroom apt, with unit in washer and dryer. I live right in the heart of the mission. But also one block from the market st Whole Food
SF is soo much more expensive than NYC.. its insane. the poverty line in SF is $112,000 a year
I would like to talk about health insurance in Germany. When you talked about a rate of €50 per month, you must have been a student. Because once you are an employee you will pay about 14% of your salary on health-insurance. As someone who is self-employed even more. So the rate you are paying now is not that crazy.
Thank you for your comment, FA
It's very well known a lot of reviews on yelp. It's on 399 Fremont st.
Personally I think it looks like an office
@@conexos2007 Ok tysm!
Oh.. Starbucks across the street where I live.. USD5 for Caramel Macchiato venti... usually I go to my local store for masala tea for USD2 max..
Oh eating out is expensive in Spore but not as expensive as SF.. USD15 for lunch, USD 35 for dinner at Western Restaurants
I really like your explanation of prices and your spending on a variety of things like low cost breakfast, McDonald’s, tea, rent for a beautiful shared apartment... very realistic overview of what someone may spend per month in SF. Well done, good job
Don't buy the tea.
Don't buy McDonald's
Don't shop at the amazing go place.
You have already saved money.
Take Lyft or Uber SHARED/ POOL cheaper.
Stop being a hipster and just buy a damn HOME.
Oh look... I just saved you a bunch of money by switching to GEICO.
LMAO @ the thought of buying a home in SF
Girl take the bart or muni.
I agreed until you said buy a home.
Lol
Lol this person saying all these must be from nowhere in Texas or nowhere in the US lol saying buy a house like only cost $50,000 lol they never been to city before
San Francisco is not overrated. It is an experience of a lifetime. You learn a lot and take that experience with your wherever you are. You are lucky to be in San Francisco. I have memories of SF like it was yesterday and I cherish it everyday that I was there. I still derive inspiration and energy from it. Everyone takes piece of San Francisco with them wherever they are and until the day they die.
It is kinda overrated. Not because its not beautiful, unique, etc. but because many people omit the negatives when talking about SF.
kakkoiBakemono it became overrated thanks to the tech industry. Causing the city to over populate, bland outsiders, higher cost of living, and an increase of homeless people. My family has been here for over 50 years and as of now Frisco’s charm has been going down the drain
asdf211
I would agree, but the only thing I would add is that the lifestyle is unsustainable.
San Francisco is ridiculous. It is not America.
Having to call a manager to give you a key to buy a toothbrush is ridiculous.
I lived in NYC for 4 years. For one single room of the cheapest was $750 , that was un 2011
Emilia Vieira nice
Emilia Vieira nice dear
Geez, $5000/month that is damn expensive. Here i am in Tokyo and spend roughly $1000/month.
Hey what are you working as?
In Spain 50 percent of your salary goes to pay the rent and the other 50 percent for surviving : food and internet :-o
i thought Spain was inexpensive.
@@ndubstar it is but they're also poor, so it evens out
you have a job in spain? how things have improved...
I live a great life in San Francisco for 30 percent of what you spend, including unlimited international calls and high speed data.
don mertle metro pcs is where its at am i right?
Thank you, Don Mertle, for your comment. Even now, I remember how BREATHING the morning air while walking to work from Pine Street was exhilarating! That was many years ago.
13 mins of my life wasted
Go home techie culture vultures.
Rent a car and/or catch the train.
most San Francisco residents do not live in SoMa, including myself. My budget is around 2K a month.
You have so nice vlog!
Is that apartment empty? Looks like no residents live there at all.
Please notice she's filming entirely during the day. Daylight hours are when her co-tenants are all AWAY at their day jobs earning money to be able to afford to pay rent there.
Wait a minute she opted out of a $40/month phone plan to pay $3 a day and still managed to spend $100 for the whole month?
Very genuine person. Thanks for the video
Over rated. They must do something about the housing. It's almost to rich for itself. It really shows the greed of America, also the health insurance situation we should be ashamed.
Agreed, people should not lose their home due to cancer treatments and health situations.
is there a $1 store in sf...?
There are a few actually. A dollar store on market next to the civic center bart station. A bunch of Daiso's, which is like a Japanese dollar store lots of awesome stuff. If you want normal america stuff like Dollar Tree you gotta go north across the golden gate bridge to San Rafael east bay Oakland or easiest Daly City
Where is the Walmart in Sf? I lived in SF and now just work in SF. I thought SF had a anti-Walmart
Walmart is only allowed to operate in the suburbs of most major cities so that smaller stores and retailers may not be squeezed out of competition.
I live in Mexico with only $600 a month. Obviously not the the same “middle-fancy” life. But I feel almost wealthy in here. You can even make it with $300 a month and I mean living pretty well: food, own house (no rent), car, clothes, etc.. If I had your income I would definitely live in a cheaper place as a king!
