- Video #226 - a different video this time! I wanted to do this since a very long time. In this video, I feature a Chennai Suburban EMU train journey from Chennai Beach to Tambaram in Second Class.
Chennai Beach is one of the major suburban terminals in Chennai - this station is located near Chennai Port, and was the first dedicated suburban terminus in Chennai. Suburban Services in Chennai dates back to the 1930s - initially, suburban trains were operated on meter gauge lines. Chennai was the only city in the country with a meter gauge suburban network. The original suburban network was from Tambaram to Chennai Beach - and this video explores the same network.
The line was converted to broad gauge in the early 2000s. This line has train services every 10 minutes - there are very few fast services on this route. The 29 kilometre ride from Chennai Beach to Tambaram takes 57 minutes to complete. The ticket fare for a single journey in Second Class is only Rs. 10!!

Neutral sections on the power lines to separate the phases from two supplying substations: what a knowledge Binai has!
Thanks for covering Chennai MSB-TBM suburban line. As you said this line dates back to 1930's(in MG avatar, it got converted to BG in the year 2004). Madras grew rapidly along-side of these suburban lines. As a kid, i have travelled in those MG EMU's in 1990's. Later on, I used to commute to MSB for my work for more than 10 years (in BG EMU's) till recently. Similar to Mumbai, Suburban Lines are a vital cog in Chennai's transportation.
2x2 coaches are made for standing purpose but there is an advantage also, cushion rest is provided in in seat so the comfort is partially equal to the first class emu coaches........ Because I travelled in that coach in a long route there is no problem................. In that seats..
Good EMU train travel vlog !! "Door Romeos" - that's a good one for such clowns !! The MMTS in Hyderabad is an unreliable service unlike the Chennai Suburban railway and in its scope of operations. As you enter, Tambaram, you can see the station name board that was the standard during the Metre Guage times and have since been replaced after improvements/upgradation in most stations. There are also suburban trains towards Chingleput and onwards to Arakkonam connecting to the mainline Chennai Central - Arakkonam suburban services.
My hometown Saidpapet. One day you must try famous Saidpapet Vadacurry. After long time a perfect EMU ride. Missing lot Chennai
Fantastic coverage!! I believe nobody from chennai have covered the section with such details.
Thanks a ton
Wonderful compilation with more information... brother ✨✌️
Interesting EMU journey. A mini tour of the localities we passed thru😊
Very nice video. Explained every important info with caption and station name keep it up sir
Nice coverage. It seems that the suburban trains are less crowded compared to Mumbai locals. And Mumbai locals are normally punctual. As you rightly mentioned the destination and time boards are missing in the platforms unlike Mumbai.
Having been a while since I ever took a chennai EMU ride, I was quite surprised by the minor variations in livery. 35:56 reminds me simultaneously of AJJ and ET WAM4s! :)
Wonderful video with delightful trivia! Thank you!! Would love to see a similar video for Chennai Metro as well! ❤
Will do soon
In new ICF MEDHA EMU digital boards are used but in OLD EMU OR ELSE NEW EMU PRINTED BOARDS ARE USED FOR MENTION STATION CODE.............. But IN 60 % OF OLD EMU TRAIN CHENNAI DIGITAL BOARDS ARE ATTACHED.... MOST OF THEM WE CAN SEE IN CHENNAI ARAKKONAM TIRUTTANI SECTION......
Trains on Tambaram route do not seem to have digital boards.
OLD EMU TRAINS IN WHICH DIGITAL BOARDS ARE ATTACHED....CAN SEEN IN CHENNAI CENTRAL (MAS) TO ARAKKONAM (AJJ) SECTION....
Superb Mr Sankar. Delighted to follow yr Wednesday vlog. Keep it up.
thank you Gentleman . you are more than well informed !
Nice journey 🚂
Very impressive
As someone who's never visited Chennai. I will surely visit all the localities of the Pettai song when I do visit in the future 😂

❤❤❤ great coverage of local.
How do they manage in night time on neutral section on train lighting.
I had traveled on Bombay emu on DC Era. But there I didn't noticed this phenomenon.
They have backup batteries for lighting. About 50% of the lights would be on at that time.
Wonderful Compilation
Dear Sir, the recent rain havoc in chennai , especially in old mahabalipuram road, should force the TN Govt to shift all the white collar jobs to some nice interior town away from seashore and less prone to heavy rains and waterlkgging in either SW or NE monsoon. Jolarpet junction is IDEAL ,it is at a higher level. It is very important railway junction. We have train connectivity to bangalore, katpadi, and through katpari to thiruvannamalai and villupuram and even to pondycjery and cuddalore.( i remember a video by you ). It is easily connected to salem, karur, erode, kovai, shoranur, . It skips hosur to reach bangalore. I think the teŕain is safe.
It is amazing that the town-s pkpulation is just 30,000.
So, the govt can first ban all land sales there, acquure all the land and build plenty of low cost houses for employees, offices, and shops and public amenities. This can be done at a fraction of the money wasted in trying to beautify chennai. Chennai must be depipulated except for factory workers.
I request you to do informative vjdeos on bangalore- to jolarpet (terminus to tedminus) and from jolarpet to bangalore. Similarly, please present a video of chennai to jolarpet and jolarpet to chennai trains. Thank you.
Njan guess chayunne next journey ananthapuri superfast il avumme enne
man i didn't realize that i have watched a 43 min video it was very engaging and felt like i was there, this route is very memorable for me.. btw in the beginning i could see the train u took was mentioned as fast? but it stopped at all stations?
