  • Some new Buffy the Vampire Slayer tracks for ya!
    Thomas Wander has never released any Buffy music up until now! Both of these tracks are sought after by fans! From Riley leaving Buffy as she races to catch up with him, to the heartbreaking funeral for Joyce (this theme played multiple times in season 6 as well).

    I don’t know the in’s and out of how music is cleared to appear on soundtracks but I’m with Nico and Julie that the original aired version of this track should’ve appeared on the La-La Land ‘Collection’. We waited years for a comprehensive collection of the great music that appeared in Buffy and what do we get?... re-done tracks and suites (grrr... aargh). By the way... thank you Michael for providing the link to the original aired version… good on ya!. I know what Julie is on about with the mistakes with the track list on this ‘Collection’… the most glaring being on CD2 where the artwork states that Track 9 was taken from ‘Fear Itself Day, Part2’… as all Buffy fans know the episode was called ‘Fear Itself’. The mistake is not only on the back cover of the CD but it’s repeated in the accompanying booklet too… twice! (in the track list and the notes about the tracks). I though La-La Land Records were supposed to a reputable record company… now I think not.

      Thanks so much Max! I uploaded it way before this ever came out. I think everyone is in agreement over the track itself. It's a shame that out of all the tracks and suites, this one was so different. I'm glad others pointed out the poor packaging job with the collection. Apart from some misprinted titles, what is up with that horrible washed out cover?!!! It was so bad, I had to recolor it, and even emailed La La Land Records my work. LOL. If anyone wants it, let me know. All B.S. aside, I am thrilled to have the works of Thomas Wander!

      The other terrible thing about the cover image is it's clearly a season 1 image of Buffy and closely resembles the season 1 DVD cover as well. Yet they included NO season 1 music by Walter Murphy at all in this release! How do you make a season 1 image the cover and not put any tracks from it! The people behind the creation of this album should not be allowed to work on any others, they did a terrible job.

      OUah I can't believe all the negativity ! Without Lalaland records we would never have those music that I've been waiting for like 20 years ! Sure this cue is different but only this one on those 4 disc come on guys ! I'm very happy with this collection, complete score from the gift, chosen ?! OF COURSE it misses some cues, but have you listen season 1 score ? it's terrible except for the piano cue in the last episode. But without LLLR nobody would have release these (sure the artwork is terrible but you don't listen with your eyes do you ?). Be more grateful :)

      I love this CD collection, honestly, I'm very grateful to La La Land Records for releasing it. It's unfortunate that they put an alternative version of "Riley's Departure" on there rather than the original version that was in the episode, but let's face it, it's better than nothing and it's actually still a really great cue despite the changes. I honestly don't care about the printing mistakes in the booklet/cover, these things happen. The sound quality of the music is more important and it's brilliant. Even the tracks that have previously been released sound much better. And I don't know what the problem with the suites is? They are actually a common thing on tv score soundtracks and even the Buffy musical soundtrack included suites.I think the ones on this soundtrack collection actually have a really nice flow to them.

    The 4 CD Collection of Buffy Score released by La La Land is joke. They changed this song and put vocals which was NOT heard in the episode! They also combined many songs into suite tracks and edited them so they overlap one another, absolutely changing the original compositions. There are also several title errors in the track listings as well, La La Land did a piss poor job with this release and we need an official one by the composers themselves who actually wrote the music.

      Julie I agree, I had no idea this track was such a let down. I guess to me the most important part of the track was Buffy trying to catch up with Riley, the piano at the beginning.
      What I’m thinking is, that Thomas composed this track and before the episode aired, it was decided that they would throw the Buffy & Riley theme in as it was more fitting? Maybe the ending was how Thomas originally composed it and that’s what he gave them?
      I totally agree that La La Land has messed up and could have put more effort into the release, including the track names. That’s a really bad mistake.

    • @JulieJ1630
      @JulieJ1630 6 років тому +2

      That's possible what you said about this being how Thomas originally composed the song, but even if that were true it doesn't matter because it's not the version that made it into the episode. And this is supposed to be music from the show, not music that failed to make it into the show for whatever reason. Including a track like this as a bonus would have been fine if this is how it was originally conceived but only if the true track from the episode was also here.
      There was also nothing in the notes in the album booklet stating that this track was changed solely for this album from its original version, so effectively La La Land tried to pass this track off as the genuine one from "Into The Woods" when they clearly know they altered it and it's not the real track. That's very dishonest of them and I've lost a lot of respect for this record company, before this Buffy release my opinion of them was through the roof, but after messing up my favorite show Buffy's release I can't help but despise them for it. They also screwed up the episode name for "Fear Itself' calling it "Fear Itself Day, Part 2" because it came after "Graduation Day, Part 2" and someone failed at copying and pasting. They also mislabeled the first track on CD 2 as "Dublin 1938" when in the episode "Amends" the flashback on the screen clearly says "Dublin 1838" so they never even bothered to check the episode, or someone made a typo and nobody checked the title.
      They also renamed tracks from the Christophe Beck Score album release in 2008, "Twice The Fool" from "Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered" has now been called "You're So Sweet" on this album. So La La Land decides it can rename tracks, combine them into overlapping suites and change songs without reason or notifying the fans beforehand. This is a very devious record company and considering the $60.00 price for buying this collection it's completely unacceptable.

      OMG this frustrated me so hard. I had to go in and rename most of the tracks to the original names. I also had some that were not on the discs, so I had to renumber all of them to fit them in order on my computer.

      xander harris I am very grateful for this! It’s an incredible release, they just missed some details and yes this track is the only one that is different. As I said in my earlier post, I am thrilled to finally have the works of Thomas Wander. We all should be grateful for this.

    This is so strange. "Riley's departure" has the vocals from that wonderful music at the end of "Smashed". Why did they mix the two? I want the original from "Into the Woods" and from "Smashed".

      Yeah, I was completely taken back when I played the track on the disc and heard the vocals. Especially on the track I was most excited to listen to. It is what it is, I guess. If you ever want to hear what aired, you can always go to my page for the original track.

      What they did here is completely unacceptable, it's not even the song in the episode it's different. Someone needs to explain to those people who created the album about using the music that was actually played in the show not creating remixes and passing it off as the genuine article. This is a major disappointment.

      This is a demo version of the track "Riley's Departure", which was on a PROMO CD by composer Thomas Wander that circulated back in the Buffy days. It's unfortunate that they didn't go with the version that was actually in the episode, but it's better than nothing / relying on TV rips with poor sound quality.

    • @donniescorner1649

      They didn't create remixes. This was an alternative version of "Riley's Departure" which the composer himself had on his promo cd back in the day. It's unfortunate that they didn't go with the actual version that was used on screen, but once you get over it, this version is actually also fairly nice (and we hopefully get another volume, which could still include the TV version, fingers crossed)

    Oh, I was over the moon with the release of this as well as others from this season. I was kind of surprised as this was the track I wanted the most, but after hearing it on the disc, it was so different from what actually aired. After some researching, the closing piano riff that was Buffy and Riley's theme was written by Christophe Beck in Season 4. Maybe that is why this version is different since it was tagged on the end of Thomas's piano score in the episode. I like both, but I am partial to that heart wrenching riff at the end.

    • @evilsilence88
      @evilsilence88  6 років тому +1

      Michael Norris The ending to the score is different than what actually aired? I’ll have to rewatch the episode but that actually makes sense. I wish Christophe had also included the slow remake of Close Your Eyes that played in Forever when Buffy and Angel kissed. I was kind of expecting it to play at the end of The Funeral but then realized that was a Beck score.

    • @retinalblur
      @retinalblur 6 років тому

      Yes, what actually aired, did not have the female vocals in it and ends with the piano riff of the Buffy and Riley theme. The track I posted from the show is something I edited together before this disc collection came out. There is a small scene with Xander and Anya after Riley leaves and before we see Buffy enter her house and sit on the steps. The piano theme plays over this and is the ultimate crescendo to the wonder score from Thomas, but since Beck did not score this season (with the exception of Hush and The Gift) I guess they had to alter the ending.

    • @NicoAngelus
      @NicoAngelus 6 років тому +2

      I don't know, this new version still has the big comeback of the Buffy/Riley theme, which was composed by Beck, so why not leave the piano version at the end as well?

      NicoAngelus I’m glad we at least got the scores we did. It’s been a long time coming for a lot of them. Did I get all my Beck scores I wanted? No. But I got a lot I wasn’t expecting. Always wanted the Anne theme from season 3, Faith waking up and wandering Sunnydale from This Year’s Girl, and the new version of Close Your Eyes from the Angel episode I Will Remember You.
