I almost didn’t click this link in my feed. I assumed it would be one of those computer-narrated, fluff videos that teach the viewer nothing. So glad the thumbnail Diamond aircraft image caught my curiosity. This was quality content.
I was fortunate to own a Socata Trinidad TB20. It was a solid platform, very comfortable and great trip plane for IFR or VFR travel. Normal cruise was 161 knots, 250 HP engine. I would recommend this aircraft to anyone with an inveterate passion for General Aviation.
If you like the Super Viking ... check out the Bellanca Super Cruisemaster. The most powerful of the Cardboard Constellations. You can clearly see where the Viking range came from.
My colleague raved for years about her Mooney M20 as the fastest single piston engine plane. She still ( I believe) holds the single pilot single engine speed record PIT to Anchorage and Anchorage to PIT. With O2 , as per FlightAware, her cruise was 196kts all day.
The first time that I saw one, I was quite disappointed. I liked every Lancair that I'd ever seen and everything about the TTX was wonderful, until I saw the undercarriage. It was as if I couldn't un-see it and for me, nothing has changed.
The Malibu definitely deserves this list and is probably the best airplane in the world for the money, a low time, used one on Controller is almost half the Cost of what Pipistrel wants for that new Panthera. Piper Comanche 260TC is faster than the 400 at cruise altitude, that’s the shark nose turbo version.
While the airplanes on the list are not necessarily ones that we would ever purchase (the list is comprised of airplanes designed to stand out), the Piper Malibu is a dream plane. With its speed and comfort it is really hard to beat for the price.
For speed and efficiency, I really like the Mooney M20J. Another upside is that you can get them at a fairly low price, upgrade the avionics, and have an aircraft that can certainly compete with the TTX and SR-22. Totally agree with all of the other planes on your list.
Mooney is on Caleb's list of first airplanes! Only downside to the Mooney (especially the short body models) is a subpar cabin size. Kind of a tradeoff they made to go fast, though.
I really like the vans rv-10, sling tsi 4 seater, carbon cun, kitfox superstol, and just planes highlander, also the diamond da50 4 seater is the sickest
The Cessna Turbo 210N, should be on this list with a 190 KTAS cruise at 24,000 and a useful load of 1,500 lbs. She's a beast if you like high-wings. It's crazy-stable, feels like you're flying on rails, even compared to the 172. It has bigger doors than the 182 and is one of the easiest planes to climb in and out of.
As a pilot wanting to get more people in the sky and learning to fly, I’m very surprised to that the Skyhawk is not on this list. It really needs to be on this list because it provides the most affordable and coolest experiences to anyone that has ever wanted to fly. New or old to flying. PERIOD
The Skyhawk is certainly a legendary airplane and it defines GA. As for cheap to buy and fly, my guess is the Cherokee 140 may take the prize as being cheaper to buy - Cessnas tend to hold their value a little better. I'd love to put lots of planes on this list, but unfortunately, that would make it hours long haha. Happy flying!
As for single engine piston birds, I like your list. The Cessna TT and the new Diamond DA50RG are great. As for the Malibu, if I'm spending that much i might as well go turboprop. Then again, you really can't go wrong with the new Malibu's. Just my two cents. Piaggio Avanti Evo, Cessna Denali, Pilatus PC24, Cirrus VisonJet, and tied for 5th is any King Air or the HondaJet
Love your list! Ours don’t include any jets or turboprops because it is a list of single engine piston airplanes, but we are definitely going to expand in the future!
The Bonanza is probably the easiest to identify of any private aircraft. The later versions it’s normal tail section is harder to identify that the V tailed versions, but almost anyone will know what the V tailed aircraft is. I love the diamond DA50 RG. It’s a great aircraft and I’d love to own one. But, I would have to win the lottery really soon to get any use of one, or any other aircraft.
First of all, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! We really love our Cherokee; however, there is nothing extremely unique about it that could compare to the planes on our list.
Thanks for the quick reply! This video was very professional and high quality and I would love to see more like this in the future. Maybe even in the form of a top 5 cheapest airplanes video.
Interesting that you for some reason omitted Pipistrel Panthera which won more different awards from NASA to many air shows around EU and USA. Latest Austrisn aircraft Dimond was attempt to compete with Panthera because Panthera is in a same price range where fully optional has a price tag of € 0.6 million. In my opinion Panthera is without any competition.
@@AviationFix Yeah. When you start getting to airplanes that are as expensive as a TTx, the owners time likely cost more than the airplane. Speed will be king, when comparing similar priced aircraft.
I started flying Beech Bonanzas in 1978. I now own and operate a 1990 F33A. The narrator in this video makes the comment that the V-tail design has less drag compared to the traditional tail design. Beech would disagree! In the POH of a V35B or F33A (conventional straight tail) the speeds at different configurations are identical. I certainly thought (back then) that the V-tail design would be lighter (one less tail form) and faster (less drag at the same power setting). Not so according to the manufacturer..
While the SR22 is a great plane, it doesn’t have any super unique features. We also did not include it on the list since it is a very common and well known aircraft among the GA community.
So cool we had to make a separate video on a very interesting Mooney! Go check it out if you haven’t already! Title: A Plane Without A Chance: The Story Of The Mooney 301
Oh, don't you worry! We absolutely love the RV line. We have a video idea in the works that will hopefully involve an RV 9. Great video, it was cool to see my video in there. The Comanche is a truly incredible beast. I love flying that thing! Keep up the great work my guy.
I just love the paint scheme of the Diamond DA50 😍
It does look quite nice!
I also agree that the blue one is particularly beautiful and in the future it will be even better to have a dragon painted DA50

As a kid I had a crush on the Bellanca Super Viking....it just looked so cool and fast in the magazine glossies .

Glad you enjoyed it! The commander is a very interesting airplane... might see it in a future video!
For 100% pure cool my 1948 Navion A can't be beat!
Similar to the DA40, the Pipestrel Panthera is sexy, efficient and gorgeous. I would love to see a side by side comparison.
The Panthera is closer to the DA50RG than the DA40, since it costs closer to $800,000. That's double what a DA40 costs.

Why do some planes have what looks like a steering wheel and some planes have a joystick
So what's your opinion on The VL3 ?
Da50rg look really nice
Some how the Cirrus SR22 G6 didn’t make the cut ?
I would add the T-38, am older advanced Air Force trainer. It was a slim aircraft, with razor thin wings, that went faster than the speed of sound!
