Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

STRAIGHT UP LIVING LEGEND. NO ARGUMETNS NO IFS NO BUTS. ULTRAMAGNETIC.
Keith is a genius.. Brave, unorthodox, wild, fresh ... avant-garde ....fathered so many styles through out the ages
i agree
So why does the likes of Young thug today who is basically the same when it come to wild unorthodox style wise respected for being them?
Kool keith is a supergalactic monster he is in his own category straight legend
Kool Moe tried to get down but I made him sit down. Shout out Moe D. Shout out Ultra and POPPA Large Big Shot on the East Coast aka Kool Keith.
Only the TRUE Ultra Heads know THAT one tho!!! lol DIGGUMZ!!! #UnstopableLife
BUST THE FACTS!!!!!
"My son, now I'm back to you, and if you bad I'll smack you through, a glass of rhymes, shattering, now you cut up, say what up?, shut up, cause I'm feelin it" - Kool Keith
Feelin It is hands down one of my favorite hip hop sings EVER. In any era.
Ultra operated in another galaxy. When I heard lines like "rotate your liver", I was a fan for life. Kool Keith was more like an extended George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic character. Picture George Clinton having a son that was a M.C. and that's Kool Keith.
I love Ced-Gee since high school. He is an amazing brain of knowledge and not just within the music. I love that about him. Ultramagnetic is so well rounded, and this has allowed them to coast for years. That is a lovely thing alone. Not many people get to experience this.
Kool Keith is like the Sun Ra of Hip Hop!!!!!!
Used to workout get hyped & make 💰off Ego Tripping
That Critical Beatdown
Is an Underrated Masterpiece
Held its own then
Still holding its own Now
Actual Fact
My favorite rapper for real- I run rap tell mc's to watch their back- the real take over
Thats exactly why Kool Keith is one of my fav mcees because his style wasnt the norm, and his voice and cadence was off the chain.
I remember when Ultramagnetic MC's songs was played at different parties in the City of Plainfield, N.J. The parties used to get so hype, I can hear it now. mc ultra magnetic, magnetic! PEACE 7
Plainfield is the suburbs
Plainfield keeps it GULLY!! I bet you won’t go to Plainfield popin’ off.... Try it!! I dare you!!!
Plfd NJ stand up
@@brolickscholar3083 I've been to Plainfield, it was sweet and quiet.
so you played ultra in a plain field? that pretty kool like keith
Kool Keith/Dr. Octogan/Dr. Doom/ and all his other aliases has always and still is one of the illest M.C. 'S to ever grace the mic. Critical Beatdown is the album that got me into hip hop/Rap .
"Slick Wick Wack", "LL Cool Wack" !! The funniest shit in hip hop ever bro'!! Respect to the Homies!!! Ultramagnet Forever Cuzzo!!!
They were hating big time
@@MrCandlewax I think they were just having fun and staking their claim.
@@MrCandlewax This was in the “good” days of hip-hop, where people battled & took shots at people going back & forth and they STILL had love & respect for each other, hung out at the same spots, go to the same award shows with no beefs, etc., unlike nowadays where a battle on the mic equals a shootout in the streets because some bitch ass nigga got into his feelings…
Love Moe Dee, one of my all time favorites. But there are a million so called "dope rhymers", Keith is a whole different animal...NOBODY can fuck with Keith.
Lyrical genius. He was so ahead of time that he still is.
Family family if it came to a battle back in the day nobody could be Kool Moe Dee melly male grandmaster cash in LL Cool j automatic MCS was the bomb though a lot of hits but never heard them battle anybody and I'm from Patterson New Jersey remodee male and all them used to come to the wreck right in my hood CCP building 4
@@roddypryor4598 Totally agree. I'd say that in that whole decade from '80 to maybe '89 there wasn't a more lethal MC than Moe Dee...this is why he became one of my all time favorites. But being lethal is only one type of MC, and we've seen many lethal MCs since Moe Dee. We've NEVER seen another Kool Keith...and never will. He created a whole other category, he's a fucking unicorn...respect that man.
Kool Moe inspired Rakim. Stop it....
Kool moe dee will destroy kool Keith
Underrated master of the mic
Kool Keith was light years ahead of his time. Eminem had to be highly influenced by him. Ultramagnetic MCS is my all time favorite group!

DR. DOOOM
LIFE IS HARD…..LIFE IS HARD…….MOMS GOT NO MONEY…..LOL 😂😂😂😂😂😂KOOL KEITH MC ULTRA!!!!!!
A Rappers rapper for sure. True Original MC
The 90's version of Kool Keith was the illest of 'em all
Fuck yes! Dr octagon album is crazy dope
Fuck yeah, dr dooom is the shit , but I’d put Matthew and spankmaster in there too with the 90’s even tho a few years out
His run from Cenobites to Matthew (or Masters of Illusion) is unbeatable, in my opinon.
His dr nagacto album was fire too, released in 2006
@@craig205 Yeah it was. Theres a few good one's after 2000 but that run was flawless.
Much love and MAXIMUM Respect to my man, the ultimate emcees mc Kool Keith and Ultra! Big up to the incredible producer my man Ced Gee!

Critical Beatdown 🔥🔥🔥 one of the best
Always preferred the horsemen album
@@obscuresoundz Probably the best BX Album of that Era or just as good as those DITC Classics Runaway Slave and Stunts Blunts
If I had a SP 1200 at the time Kool.Kieth had one ain't no telling. You couldn't find a SP 1200 in San Diego,Cali back in the 80's. I was happy to get my hands on a Ensoniq EPS 16 that over heated alot.
I ALMOST 4got... Dammmn that EPS used to always heat up fast and have to get cut off... got that Maschine now.. amazing how far production has came.. I had a SP-12, which came out b4 the 1200😳😤👏🏿🙏🏿✊🏿
Kool Keith one of the greatest ever.nice to see a well done interview on youtube for once instead of dummies rambling.

The Godfather of Roc Marci style.
how they styles are not alike
@@obscuresoundz Roc Marciano speaks on UltraMagnetic's being his favorite from the golden age.
@@obscuresoundz he says it.
@@blackpegasus1807 I am aware but that dont make him the godfather of his style
@@obscuresoundz I spoke to Marcsberg on the phone when he was staying in L.I. and was recording with the P. Brothers from NotingHam, U.K. He wanted to get a track with Ced-Gee and Kool Keith. He told me Ultra was his favorite group and influenced his style of rhyming. This came out his mouth.
Kool moe dee is too nice.
UltraMagnetic dissed Kool Moe Dee in Traveling At The Speed of Thought Video, Bust The Facts, Plucking Cards and in the Source Magazine "Bronx Bombers" article. Moe Dee was always quite as a church ⛪🐀mouse.
Word up to that black P 💪🏽
They was dissing everyone at that time. The only one who went at them hard was Freddy Foxxx. He flamed Ultra on " crazy like a fox" but Keith will always go down as one of the greats.
💯
🔥 👍
lol. Kool Moe Dee graded every old school head an A or higher.
Black Elvis. Rock star, walkin down the Broadway.
What y'all talking about?
Black Elvis. Rock star, chillin in the project hallway.
Awe man he said it lol Ive always held the opinion that kool keith is the only rapper who doesn't have to even have to rhyme on a verse and still be dope, and he actually says that's what he was was trying to do lol, that alone as a concept makes him forever top 5 dead or alive..
I always said for years that Keith birth Ghostface Style
Had a 1990 Turbo Saab in 1987… 🤷🏾♂️
Yooo classic shit my boy had a gold 89 turbo Saab n my otha boy had a isuzu impulse wit da factory lite up equalizer haaaa

Kool Keith and ultramagnetic mc's. From New York too London. America to Europe. Slam dunking and euro stepping worldwide. Eminem read a lot of comics. He read a lot of scifi books. Linear Note : for the art of rapping. Read a lot.

KMD was out before Ultra? Special K too? What year you think Ultra came out? May have to check your resources....
Special K yes. KMD no way.
Special K was one of the first to do it. Keith took it to a way higher level.

I think Kool Moe Dee just didn't understand Ultramagnetic MC's. They were so different from everyone before and during their time.
Nah, Moe Dee said himself that they were dope, and most people didnt understand them.
