  • I hope you find this video useful and saves you money. As a small creator I only post content that I can see has not been widely covered before. It would be really great if you could help with buying a coffee a week by subscribing to my channel and watching another one of my videos.
This shows you how easy it to effectively clean the horrible tar deposits that make the glass on a wood burning stove go smokey or black. All you need is some wood ash and some kitchen roll, one sheet wet other dry. It works really well and does not use any expensive or harse chemicals.

Thank you for this. The wood ash, as a source of lye (a base) is dissolving the residue. Finally my high school chemistry is useful.

Brilliant! Needed to clean the log burner before leaving a self catering holiday chalet and this method worked a treat!
    Thank you!

Tried this method first and it worked great. Worked so well that I didn't even bother to look at other methods. I'm using it on my electric stovetop and it works better than anything else I've tried. Reminds me of the old Bon Ami that looked like a bar of soap and worked wonderfully. Thanks for the clip!

This worked perfectly...thanks! I still have tiny little specks/dots of something on mine. Any idea what that is and how to remove it? Wondered if it's sap or something from the kindling spitting?

Probably the same as the rest just a little thicker, I get it sometimes, Usually once the worse is off running the stove at the upper end of the temp range burns it off, if not just have another go, sometimes when you get the paste onto the window just leave it for a bit redamp and it can help to shift the subborn bits.

Yes but its not natural, bad for the Environment and more expensive. The way he does it in the video is FREE and environmentally friendly plus you are not using up resources by buying a tin can!

The spray we use is ecko friendly
      Spray leave 30 seconds
And wipe so easy and no scratches on the glass . This way will scratch your glass in time if there any hard bit in the ash you the story . Been a chimney sweep for over 50 years I think I know a bit about stove glass at this stage me our my staff would never use any thing that would harm you we also use grade 3 steel wool warm water a little bit of washing up soap .
At the end of the day it's your stove do with it as you like . Ecko oven spray or steel wool
Are only ways we do it . Best of luck

I average once a week. sometimes it does not soot up, other times it is pure soot which wipes off. this is for the stubborn tar which gives the glass a smoked effect. getting the stove nice and hot reduces problem. a flue thermometer is good idea so you can see how hot it is
