like the features, setup was difficult for some of my devices (August Door lock, ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxhB5YOMNj04GuoAosExygP4cH-dKeb4aB Bose speaker)... but all switches and outlets (5), thermostat, tankless water heater. Unfortunately all I can do is turn on/off Bose. It doesn't support volume or changing channels, but I believe that is due to the particular speaker I have.... Worth getting if you already have other devices to use it with... I don't sit around and ask Alexa questions much so that doesn't really matter to me....
LOVE the Homepod Mini. As I'm already vested into the Apple ecosystem (iPhone, Mac, AppleTV, etc) the Homepod is the obvious choice for me. I also own Echo, and although Echo is "technically smarter," if you use Apple devices, Homepod has some tricks. For instance, I use Carplay in my car. With a Homebod, all I have to do is tell Homepod where I want to drive to for navigation. Seamlessly, once I get into my car and use Car Play, my navigation is automatically set up. LOVE that. With the Incredible Sound of the Homepod Mini... I'm ALL In!
Think it depends. I am invested into the Apple eco system (Phones, Laptops, Accessories) and I decided to go with Google/Nest for my Smartphone eco system. They all work great together.
Suggestion for future videos: show us what they sound like at lower volumes. I find the sonic balance drastically different on these when your rocking a party vs having it on in the background at work or for socializing. I have the new echo and I find it gets harsh as hell as it gets loud too. Another suggestion is to test the audio with them close to a wall. No one would put an echo on a table in the middle of a room like your test. Put them on a shelf like we users do. That will affect bass balance. Thanks! I'm surprised apple hasn't made a speaker in the range between their two models as a $199 model would sound great. I guess you could stereo pair two of them.
Sorry guys editing mistake, but trust your ears. At first you hear something that sounds terrible (echo dot) and then something that sounds amazing (HomePod Mini) lol..
I have it too. It’s amazing! I did a sound comparison with the HomePod mini, Echo, and Echo Dot. The HomePod mini smashed the Dot, and it had better bass and clarity compared to the Echo. I love it!
@@leebeeskee Ikr, they're absolutely fantastic when they work in pairs. Only problem is that, you are limited to only a pair though. This was an interesting comparison. Being an old-timer, who uses a pair of hearing-aids, the sound coming out of my iPad Air 2 was terrible. However, I watched your review, again with a pair of decent powered speakers which I have connected to my MacBook and the differences were much more evident. As it happens, just before I listened to your review on my iPad, I had set up a pair of Mini-Homepods , as a stereo pair in my living room and was so impressed by the clarity. , Most of my music is Classical and perhaps future demos could include a short snatch of Elgar's Cello Concerto , or a violin piece to see how non-amplified instruments sound.. One more thing : having the speakers on that hard worktop might make the sound somewhat harsh. Perhaps a heavy cloth or anything softer might make a difference. I also have larger Homepods installed in three other rooms (I live alone ) so my house is also filled with such waking music as Shake Rattle And Roll or Rip It Up . Thanks for your efforts in making interesting videos.
@@truthistheKJV . I am listening to the stereo pair in a room about 15' 3" by 25' and they are sharp and clear and plenty loud enough. But I am playing popular instrumental tracks from the 50s and 60s, such as "Telstar" and "Take Five" ,and the bass in those days is nothing as heavy as modern rock, say. Remember, also that I am wearing hearing aids set at normal levels, so my hearing will not be anywhere as good as normal. Of course the depth is not as good as the larger HomePods, but look at the price difference. My advice is , if you have the money, buy a pair from Apple, try them You have 14 days to return them , if you are disappointed. Good luck.
I already got two homepod minis and been watching this to make sure of my choice and wow I'm shocked about how great the homepod sounded in comparison to the echos and google home. Definitely going to be keeping this.
That fact that you guys have to "check" if you made the right choice lmao. I bought the Echo and immediately fell in love. Great quality sound, it's an actual smart speaker unlike homepod with simple Siri commands, and the fact that you can plug it in to any bigger speaker is amazing as it transforms essentially any speaker into a smart speaker with Alexa. I mean seriously, the things you can do with an Echo is insane.
You forgot a few other things: the Echo does not only have an aux-out. That aux-out can also be configured as an aux-in. On top of that, it also sports a full featured Zigbee Hub.
I liked the homepod mini. I bought one as a computer speaker for my sons zoom classes. There was like one second lag on it so I ended up using the homepod mini in his bedroom to airplay my toddlers favorite lullaby UA-cam video. I can only do it with the homepod. I might buy three more minis
Got me a couple of Nest speakers on sale from Google with 33% off a few years ago (only €66 each). Probably the best tech investment I've ever made. When paired up & output adjusted via the equaliser settings those really pack some punch. Assistant works very well in general, but on occasion I get a response telling me 'I can't find the other speaker in this pair' for playback which can be somewhat annoying. For the price I got them at it was a win-win situation.
In the second song he mixes up the echo and HomePod mini clips because you can see the white circle on the HomePod mini when the echo is supposed to be playing
At around 5:03 why does the sound quality turn bad? Bad attention to detail.. pretty much can guess that low quality music is the echo mini.. I mean come’on.. could’ve tried a little harder with editing.. laziness lol
Good comparison! I bought a white home pod mini, I loved it so much the next day I went and got a space grey. Stereo pair in a room is amazing! And they look perfect, they melt in their surroundings.
That’s so funny I did the EXACT same thing haha. I love both colors and they do melt in the surroundings and look great . A suggestion ..check out the Spigen coaster stand on Amazon…there like 11 or 12 bucks and the hp minis sit on them they look nice in them
Hmm well I have Amazon echos all around my house right now, but I’m not sure. I mean I already have iPhone 12, iPad Air 4, and MacBook Pro 2020. Should I go with the HomePod to keep up the Apple trend?
At 4:30, it Sounds like you failed to add the speaker graphic whenever the Echo Dot was playing. The sound changed but the graphic stayed over the HomePod mini. Yes?
I feel like the speaker icons in the test at the 5 minute mark are misplaced. The homepod display lights up when it’s the Echo’s turn, plus I can’t tell when the dot is playing.
No real comparison will be made between the Homepod mini and another speaker at the same price or less expensive. No medium or high sound is sent in your direction, but only the bass. It is on a piece of furniture, at a distance of 3m that the comparison must be made with the microphone on the person filming and not above the Homepod.
I set up such a pair , about 3 hours ago. They are very good ( and I wear hearing-aids ) I have only tested them out on music from my Apple Match collection, so far.
😢😢😢 I.... just ~2 weeks ago bought the Echo Dot and I love music! I thought the Dot was great (in terms of sound as well) as I had an old Google Home Mini in the other room.
One expensive solution to make HomePod more compatible to other smart home devices is to buy an echo dot, then ask Siri to intercom to a room with echo dot and say something like “Alexa, turn off light” 😆
I got two HomePod minis for ₹19,800, literally ₹100 less than a single HomePod. It’s a bloody good deal, for the size, I get amazing sound quality in stereo and obviously because it’s Apple, there’s a clear guarantee of privacy, good aesthetics, and smart home and music control and AirPlay control which is just seamless. Even the new U1 handoff works really well. All in all, the HomePod mini is one of the best music accessories Apple has ever released in my opinion. It’s the literal definition of bang for the buck.
got one Google nest audio for $60 ay black fridays. used they are $40 perhaps. but to few tests mention that it does not have bluetooth as do the google nest mini, especially is you just wish for youtube audio off an ipad. on andriod you can cast the device
I have the Nest and I really like it, loud enough for the room, and looks great on my living room, my friends and family love it also! It's my first smart speaker though, before I had a Archeer a320 that really have great bass, but Nest is more balanced in cord instruments and vocals and the assistant is great, the best buy always depends of your personal taste and the space you want to fill with sound
My bedroom is pretty much the only Smart zone in the house as I live with my family still so the Homepod Mini is plenty loud enough and sounds fantastic lol plus that Apple ecosystem is always phenomenal
1:04 thanks for mentioning this. I have an usb-c powerbank and I think it is an big deal it can do this. (Although it unfortunately can only give 15 watts where the HomePod needs 20. But the updated model that I need to inevitably buy when my current one dies, because it is more than 3 years old now, does have it.)
I've just bought 4 minis for home, office and for my mom, they haven't arrived, hoping excelent sound. Max can you tell me what model and band of apple watch are you using? That gold color looks great!
Thanks that's the stainless steel gold millanesse loop or however you spell it lol. geni.us/O4JMpgG they used to cost more but Apple lowered the price and the original from apple is worth the extra compared to a cheap rip offs which look and feel worst with less powerful magnets and the gold fades quickly. Mine looks new after more than a year.
I got an Amazon Echo Dot. TBH the sound is great for me, It's got some bass and the music doesn't sound as bad. Worth the price for me. Oh, and if you put the Echo Dot at a corner, you can definitely feel the bass....

I also have larger Homepods installed in three other rooms (I live alone ) so my house is also filled with such waking music as Shake Rattle And Roll or Rip It Up . Thanks for your efforts in making interesting videos.
How are the HomePod minis as a stereo pair? I think one has great sound for being so small.
OMG same!! I’m listening to tons of videos to convince myself I made the right choice with going with the HomePod Mini.
@@luludvega the echo has crap sound which is why you can plug it into any other speaker with better sound.
You forgot a few other things: the Echo does not only have an aux-out. That aux-out can also be configured as an aux-in. On top of that, it also sports a full featured Zigbee Hub.
OMG THE MINI SOUNDS MAD GOOD
Bought HomePod mini this Christmas 😀
the homepod mini is just a flipped echo
Oh my god
With a much better sound 💪🏻
I liked the homepod mini. I bought one as a computer speaker for my sons zoom classes. There was like one second lag on it so I ended up using the homepod mini in his bedroom to airplay my toddlers favorite lullaby UA-cam video. I can only do it with the homepod. I might buy three more minis
4:55 why is the HomePod lit when you’re showing the echo as playing now?
Got me a couple of Nest speakers on sale from Google with 33% off a few years ago (only €66 each). Probably the best tech investment I've ever made. When paired up & output adjusted via the equaliser settings those really pack some punch. Assistant works very well in general, but on occasion I get a response telling me 'I can't find the other speaker in this pair' for playback which can be somewhat annoying. For the price I got them at it was a win-win situation.
I miss the og homepod and will buy one
hahah "sounds defective..."
In the second song he mixes up the echo and HomePod mini clips because you can see the white circle on the HomePod mini when the echo is supposed to be playing
The rock part was a bit off, but otherwise great comparison!! That HomePod mini is surprisingly good for its size... 😧
At around 5:03 why does the sound quality turn bad? Bad attention to detail.. pretty much can guess that low quality music is the echo mini..
I mean come’on.. could’ve tried a little harder with editing.. laziness lol
Great job! Thank you this really helped me.
When the homepod mini came out I immediately switched from the echo show and it sounded so much better and it was much easier to use
I love the way you do the test! Could you do a test with the Google Nex, HomePod mini, HomePod and Logitech Wonderboom?
I paid $49 for my Amazon Echo, and I just looked online and now they're on sale for $28.99
Oof😂💔
That’s Black Friday for you
Wow i paid $99 Dollars for HomePod mini last week now this it’s still worth $99 Dollars/oh my 😳😉
That is probably the Dot version.
Get a refund and but the regular echo 4th gen for $69.99 now. geni.us/HKRD4h
Amazing comparison brother.
A suggestion ..check out the Spigen coaster stand on Amazon…there like 11 or 12 bucks and the hp minis sit on them they look nice in them
Thinks max, I was waiting for this great video.👍
Hmm well I have Amazon echos all around my house right now, but I’m not sure. I mean I already have iPhone 12, iPad Air 4, and MacBook Pro 2020. Should I go with the HomePod to keep up the Apple trend?
Thanks… i know what to buy now ☺️🎶🎵
I wait Daily for your video.
The bigger echo smashes it. Best sounding out of all of them. Get 2 and set up as stereo pair and they’re stunning.
At 4:30, it Sounds like you failed to add the speaker graphic whenever the Echo Dot was playing. The sound changed but the graphic stayed over the HomePod mini. Yes?
Great video, super comparison!
Please do a similar compare for the bigger Home Pod too please.
The Echo and Homepod mini rocked! 😍😍
HomePod sounds the best, wow impressive
I feel like the speaker icons in the test at the 5 minute mark are misplaced. The homepod display lights up when it’s the Echo’s turn, plus I can’t tell when the dot is playing.
I'd say the HomePod Mini and the Google Nest Audio speakers sounded super clear.
I already ordered the HomePod mini. Hopefully it wasn’t a mistake 😀
Not expected result, I have Google Home Max and powerful bass is the best thing about it 😂
Great video! The HomePod Mini sounds much more “open” to me compared to the others. Can you compare the HomePod Mini to a Sonos One?
No real comparison will be made between the Homepod mini and another speaker at the same price or less expensive.
No medium or high sound is sent in your direction, but only the bass.
It is on a piece of furniture, at a distance of 3m that the comparison must be made with the microphone on the person filming and not above the Homepod.
That haircut and beard fade looks fire 🔥
You’ve sold me solidly for the paired HomePod minis for my Mac mini Silicon setup.
Worth noting that stereo pairing doesn’t work with macOS (except in the TV and Music app)
I set up such a pair , about 3 hours ago. They are very good ( and I wear hearing-aids ) I have only tested them out on music from my Apple Match collection, so far.
Well you have bad editer at 5:11 or the second song full they forgot to change the speaker icon from homepod to the echo dot
I like the integration with my iPhone. Got to go with HomePod mini
For privacy alone the HomePod Mini is the clear winner. We have a full size HomePod and it's amazing.
Great review, thanks!
The rock clip shows the nest audio as the true winner.
I’ll check it out!
Of course
😢😢😢 I.... just ~2 weeks ago bought the Echo Dot and I love music! I thought the Dot was great (in terms of sound as well) as I had an old Google Home Mini in the other room.
Apple HomePod Mini is the best 🔥🔥🔥
One expensive solution to make HomePod more compatible to other smart home devices is to buy an echo dot, then ask Siri to intercom to a room with echo dot and say something like “Alexa, turn off light” 😆
The HomePod got that base it sounds compared to the others I can say in person it’s even better
7:18 Why aren't you showing the Echo Dot?
I have the Nest and I really like it, loud enough for the room, and looks great on my living room, my friends and family love it also! It's my first smart speaker though, before I had a Archeer a320 that really have great bass, but Nest is more balanced in cord instruments and vocals and the assistant is great, the best buy always depends of your personal taste and the space you want to fill with sound
Nex seems better in second sound?
the elephant in the room: you don't like the nest audio and you want something to match your Apple watch
@@MaxTechOfficial thanks Max
I sincerely hope Homekit gets better, faster (in terms of support for devices). Because that HomePod mini is relatively cheap for the sound it gives!
Most devices don’t want to adhere to Apple’s privacy rules. That’s why HomeKit support is lacking.
I loved the HomePod mini it had great sound
I've the eco dot 4th gen first time having one and its amazing sound quality is superb
I got an Amazon Echo Dot. TBH the sound is great for me, It's got some bass and the music doesn't sound as bad. Worth the price for me. Oh, and if you put the Echo Dot at a corner, you can definitely feel the bass....
All these except the echo dot are good speakers. I will get the Homepod mini considering the size and design.
I really like your videos but it happens quite often that your on screen graphics are incorrect. For example, the playing indicator during the rock song example.
1. HomePod Mini
2. Echo
3. Nest
4. Echo Dot
He forgot nest Mini
And google home max
Too bad Siri is stuck in kindergarten
Got the Nest speaker for $49 sounds great adjust the bass on the EQ, and the Google assistant rocks...
Home pod for sure... privacy and great sound
Privacy? With a literal eves dropping speaker with no option to mute the mic
? Ok sure
if the homepod mini supports playing sound unplugged from the power source and waterproof, I'll definitely buy it
