Goldia road bike restoration part 1

- Today's video features a road bike of the relatively unknown Swiss brand Goldia. There is very little information about this brand. The frame builder was Hans Mueler from Goldach. The Columbus frame is very cleanly processed with a lot of ornate details. Shimano 600EX group upgraded from friction shifting to 6 speed index SIS (Shimano Integration System) shifting later in the 1980's. The set is complemented by 3 ttt handlebars, stem and seatpost, and at that time a very progressive Concor saddle. In the first part of this restoration, we disassemble the bike, clean the accessories, remove rust from the chrome fork and polish the frame. If you enjoyed our video, please click on SUBSCRIBE.
Dnešní video bude o silničním kole poměrně neznámé švýcarské značky Goldia. Informací o této značce je velmi málo. Stavitelem rámů byl Hans Mueler z Goldachu. Rám z materiálu Columbus je velmi čistě zpracovaný s množstvím zdobných detailů. Komponenty Shimano 600EX z konce 80tých let poprvé přinášejí polohovací řazení s obchodním názvem SIS (Shimano Integration System) a do té doby s nevídanou přesností volby převodů. Komplet doplňují 3 ttt řídítka, představec a sedlovka, a v té době velmi progresivní sedlo Concor. V prvním dílu kolo rozebereme na jednotlivé komponenty, které rozebereme, vyčistíme, a složíme, chromovanou vidlici zbavíme rzi a rám vyleštíme. Watching this was art in motion. Pay close attention to how he moves seriously. Not a wasted movement. Very fluid in his actions. Taking the BB off was genius because he uses the frames own chain stays on the ground to provide support for the pressure generated to take off the lock ring. Master status! His only fail was taking off that front reflective sticker. High heat by an industrial hair dryer would melt the adhesive and make it much easier to take off. It pained me to watch him use a plastic tire lever to scrape at it.
Thank you very much, I'm sorry I made you cry. Next time, a hair dryer... I know!
Excellent work !!
Thank you very much.
I like to see you clean the old components ... I cleaned what I could on my Colnago ...
Díky Kubo! Kdykoliv se s tím zastav...

Thank you Andy for your support!
Nice work, very thorough, i keep my two Vintage Steel bikes, owned from new, in the best condition i can, BH Campagnolo 1987, Triomphe,Gran Sport & Super Record, & Puch (Bianchi built) Mistral 1990 all Shimano 600 -105 & Exage , baring Campagnolo Chorus hubs. You have some handy techniques , which i will deploy, wife's ordinary domestic household steam cleaner comes incredibly handy for this kind of work . Again nice work.
Thanks a lot and enjoy yours vintage bikes!
Always liked the 600 brake calipers. Second only to the Suntour Superbe internal spring calipers.
Yes! Suntour Suberbe calipers are great. I have one NOS groupset.
Those forks polished up amazingly well. I thought they were pitted down to the bare steel. The Goldia name is a new one to me as well, but obviously well executed.
Thank you for support.
Deseando ver ya la segunda parte de esta restauración.
La recuperación del cromado de la horquilla ha sido genial.
Gracias por compartir tus restauraciones.
Saludos
Gracias amigo y su gran apoyo!

Next time use a hair dryer to remove the decal. It will peel right off.
Good idea...thank you.
What is the paint lacquer brand to bring up the paint? Thanks a lot from Holland!
You mean polishing paste? Czech brand. Thanks for support to Holland!
I did something like this ten years ago. Now I’m struggling to find replacement chains, derailleur cogs, chain rings, brake pads, and other parts that wear out over time.
I’m ready for a full rebuild but it’s just too expensive or impossible to find parts. If you know of any videos or creators that are doing upgrades with modern parts I would like to see them? A lot of people would get angry if they see modern parts on a nice old frame but I want to ride my bike, not hang it in a wall.
If you don't care about the period of the replaced parts, there are certainly plenty of cheap substitutes in every bicycle shop. Thank you for watching the video..
bike seize?
56cm CT
What is the blue polish ?
Osborn Unipol Metal polish
Thanks a lot , I will try it
What did you use for the chrome!!!
vinegar first and then polishing paste
@@OnRoadVintageBikes what brand of paste? :)
@@lotusdk10 Osborn Unipol
I wouldn’t call what you are doing restoration. It’s cleaning an old bike in exceptionally clean condition. Restauration would be sandblasting the frame, chrome plating parts, painting the frame, applying decals.
Thank you for watching the video. Excuse me for the wrong terminology. Alternatively, please take a look at some of my other videos where it will all take place as you say.
@@OnRoadVintageBikes I am not criticizing your work, just making a distinction. I like your videos because I too like to restore bicycles. Right now I am working on a Gloria
La Garibaldina racer and a 1971 Colnago, though both will stay with original paint.
@@alaingiguere9197 Please send me pictures of your bikes. I love old racing bikes... Have a nice time and feel free to write me your opinions, I'm glad for that.
