I was in Australia once for a whole week.
It was one week too long.
Never been back, will never go back.
I am a pakeha Kiwi but proud to be one. This makes me prouder.
Why would anybody honestly want to leave this to move to that dump...?
Stick the better wages. I haven't got much but I would rather have it here
❤
A proud, full blooded islander(tokelau/samoa&niue) who loves dis song. GB!!!😊
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure in 1978 the original version of this song (by Ngoingoi Pewhairangi and Tui Teka, and sung by Prince Tui Teka) was number One on the NZ charts for about 8 weeks! This is the only non-English song to ever do this! Still a beautiful love song. E Ipo - My Darling. I love this arrangement too. So proud.
The Bridge was a #1 chart hit in 1981 for New Zealand singer Deane Waretini, and his backing group The Rising Stars. This also marked a first. It was the first Maori language record to hit the no 1 spot in New Zealand.
Prince Tui Teka's original version of E Ipo was number 1 in 1982.

❤ luv this combined culture version of a great song popular to this day. Hear it sung in Maori and English.👍👍👋
Love this song, reminds me of the homeland, and how children grow up connected to their culture and land in Aotearoa that is NZ; I feel it has significant meaning attached to the elders, and although it was written in 1982 it feels timeless.

These songs always break my heart. My old man did his best to keep me away from the culture and was raised in australia all my life. Now I'm grown I feel like I missed out on so much. My family back in NZ is always telling me to go back but I feel like an outsider and worry about not fitting in 😭 aaargghhhhh!!!!
Lol same here I feel you

This is lovely. This song was inspired and adapted from Indonesian song in 70s.
Do you know the song? Id be keen to hear it if it was part of the inspiration for this
@@ShuddupOw the original song is mimpi sedih, a 1970s indonesian song, you can listen it here:

@@dianlaksmanaanindita9576 iya.. ini lagu nostalgia di indonesia thn 70an...
I think it is only the tune that is the same or similar. The lyrics are entirely different.
Just beautiful 🥰 still jamming Ardijah 2021"
It is without a doubt that in my life-time I get to see 2 such cultures join together in a wonderful way, celebrating a very popular kiwi song of Prince Tui Teka's song E IPO. Thank you for sharing a song that spans the generations.
Awesome vid and song, tu meke
Tumeke tikai ... awesome version !!!
This song is the Indonesian song composed by A. Rijanto in 1972. The first singer was an Indonesian Singer Tetty Kadi and followed by another singer Broery Marantika or Broery Pesolima. This song was very popular in Indonesia in 1970s. The title is "Mimpi Sedih" or "Sad Dream"
This takes me back to a pre-racialised Aotearoa, where we were all Kiwis who respected tikanga. Now, we've embraced American separatism. Our tamaiti will never known true equality.
Love this version, ngā mihi koutou
