I have a theory its a long shot, but it starts with that Mary's first recollection is Persia. I think Hancock is actually the angel Dobiel the former angelic guard of Persia. The eagle he wears on his hat could be mosconstrued for the persian symbol farvahar which translates as guardian angel. Dobiel was known for showing pity on the israelites when God was angry with them, and apparently convinced the babylonians to drive them out of their province instead of killing them. He became corrupt and made the persians his favorite people, but that may have changed when he met Mary. He may have recognized all people as precious and is repenting his corruption as a superhero.
It’s implied Hancock and Mary are actually the Olympians Zeus and Hera (both a couple as well as siblings). There are several images of eagles that appear throughout the movie. The eagle is the symbol of Zeus.
For those wondering Hancock is actually an angel and so is she…… during the crusades God sent 40 angels to earth to help those faithful to him ( Hancock actually had wings but lost them during the crusades around 102AD ) Hancock and the 39 other angels all fought in the war, after the war ended overtime eventually all the angels started to pair with each other and their powers dwindled ( in a sense it’s gods gift to give them a normal life if they choose love, in the end they will return to heaven )….. in this scene, you can see that tin with the theatre ticket in it…. the last two angels that we’re still on earth went to go see Frankenstein together where Hancock was attacked. Sometimes using that style in a movie really works...in some scenes. _Some_ scenes. But for instance, take the first part of this clip, when the two are just standing outside, doing nothing but _talking._ It's not super obvious, most people probably wouldn't notice, but if you look closely, you'll see that even though absolutely NOTHING is happening to warrant it, the camera is still slightly moving around, rather than remaining in a fixed and steady position like it should be during a scene like that. It makes absolutely no sense from a filmmaking standpoint and is really distracting, once you've caught onto it. Watch this whole clip again closely, and you'll see that the camera is NEVER STILL. I don't think there's even a single moment in the entire clip where the camera isn't moving slightly. And not just this clip, go watch a different clip from Hancock, and you'll see...... *Constant.
