Planespotting video with Tupolev TU154 (TU-154 / Ty154) OM-BYO of Slovak Republic. After a very early start on Friday 27th July 2012 I was lucky enough to get a spot at Stansted Airport to be able to capture a number of the VIP/ rare/ charter arrivals at the airport in time for the opening ceremony of the 2012 sporting event being held in London. This video therefore includes Slovakian Government TU154 arrival and departure, Czech Air Force & German Airforce Airbus, Saudi 777, Dubai Royal Flight 747, Air Bucharaest and Transavia 737's transporting fans, IL96 and IL62 Russian arrivals. I've never been lucky enough to see so many Russian jets, what amazing sights and brilliant sounds. What a shame we don't have this variety all the time.
Please note that filming conditions were quite difficult, STN faces into the sun for the most part of the day, and therefore looking at an LCD screen isn't easy. Also I film up a ladder and the sound is affected somewhat by the many hundreds of other spectators. Unfortunately for me, a large number of very loud people congretated near me for most of the day and proceeded to shout their conversations at one another so!! I've tried to minimise those interruptions.
Finally a huge thank you must be extended to Essex Police Planewatch and Stansted Airport Operations for their accommodation of aviation enthusiasts from around the country, they really did a lot to help and have helped prove again that aviation attracts a lot of interest around the world and should be supported. Thank you.

Today's Russian Federation is not capable of producing such machines. At all.

Barely out of reverse and the captain pulls his window open, I love it, lol. Don't think I have seen that one before. T154M, classic bird with lovely lines. I particularly love the way the mains do that 180d turn to fold into the wing pods. Great vid!

The quadruple Soloviev D-30KU symphony is one of the many reasons why I love the Il-62. It is so sad that the economic crisis killed these amazing birds. They were much better suited for the transsiberian routes than the A330 and 777. They were extremely good at handling the hard turbolence, which is very common over the urals, and despite being a large airliner, they could land at very short runways in Siberia thanks to the thrust reversers that could be deployed upon touchdown. Wonderful plane.
The a330 and 777 both have thrust reversers also..
They do, but they can only be deployed AFTER touchdown, not during =)
There are still many Russian aircraft movements throughout the EU, it's good too as it adds some much needed variety for us spotters :-) thanks for taking time to watch my video.

Love those Russian birds.. Classy and beautiful, I don't get to see many here in Seattle. Occasionally A Il 124 cargo jet comes into Paine field but that"s about it.
Sensational video, i went the day before and caught the two 727s. This is by far one of the best videos on the net which shows all these fantastic aircraft at one place.
Hi, thanks for your comment. I always try to use a tripod and I started out perching that on the pallets that you are referring too, or if those were in use, then the mound itself. You can get reasonably close shots from there and can do various techniques such as zooming in as the aircraft comes down the runway. I tend to be a bit further along than the mound I do recommend a tripod for all times you're zoomed close.

I think the loudest aircraft I've filmed on takeoff is actually the TU154 it has a very high pitch sound as it goes overhead - loved it though! Favourite to film, tough one, I like MD11/Trijets because of shape, ATR for sound, Big Jets for amazing engineering. Decisive eh!?! BW.

Hello @Garlic-p7q thanks for watching my video of Soviet era aircraft. There is definitely something unique about the sound from these aircraft and it was very good to be able to capture them. At a moment in time when there seemed to be more international harmony than today.
Thank you for watching N5505KD it's nice to read your thoughtful comment. Russia had a thriving aircraft industry for many years. It currently is developing new aircraft as well e.g. Sukhoi SuperJet 100. It is excellent for the entire industry to have this type of competition and, for those of us interested in aviation, variety of aircraft types.

Amazing compilation of some amazing movements. Certainly a unique day for STN and I had a great time at the end of 04. However seeing the aircraft on approach did make me think at times that I was missing some of the action. But I needn't have worried as I got to see it all from your video, really stunning work, and edit to absolute perfection. A fantastic 'momento' of what was an amazing day. I had hoped you would have been videoing, and I certainly have not been disappointed. Amazing work.

Hello gedebage thanks again for your kind comments on my videos I really do appreciate the feedback and believe me having such positive comments helps to make what is becoming a very time consuming hobby all the more worthwhile. It was impressive to see Air Force One, I was lucky enough to capture it a few times last year. I take a slightly different view regarding the runway expansion - it would be nice to see the airport fully utilised in current set up before a new rway but thank you v much.
Great video. Many Russian Aircraft that actually makes me seem a bit jealous! I was lucky enough to go on a Tu-154 once to Bulgaria and they are actually so nice planes (they are actually one of my favorites). I would like to ask a question though, is That a320 Qatar a Scheduled flight or was it carrying government officials? Great video and can't wait to see some Sun Country one's soon

Great video, can I ask where you filmed from? I am fairly regular visitor to Stansted and normally go to the mound with the pallets on but it does not give as good views as you have. Also how do you film from up a ladder? Do you use a tripod or some other attachment as your shots are very steady.

I went to Duxford - such a beautiful and hot day - as I looked out toward Stansted I could see what appeared to be a 727 landing - another rare aircraft, and must have been nice to see.
There is a program in Russia to remake Il-96, but deep modeficated!

I think Russian airplanes are so cool. Their fuselage, wings, engines, and LG, both look awesome and are placed well.
Although looking a little old, dirty, and "smoky", they still look pretty great.
I personally think that old sort of look adds a certain touch to the look which makes them look more rustic, and a kid's dream of a "dreamliner" back then... I don't know, I'm only 13 so, what can I say.
Your videos are just brilliant ! by the way , do you remember what the loudest aircraft you have seen taking off was , and what is your favourite to film :)
