This MiniFreak is sponsored by ARTURIA for a great Community that celebates the MicroFreak for about 3,5 years. Thank you all. Thank you ARTURIA.
And this is how it started....
Here he is the mini freak. It's great and it's complex. Of course, I can't find all the features in a few days, especially without a guide. Let alone know the instrument.
But a few processes are already clear, things that are repeated over and over again and that I can incorporate into the live performance.
This jam is actually nothing different than what I've been doing up until now, jamming with sequencer. I'm thinking of a sequence. Despite the great new functions, this is not as easy with the MiniFreak as with the little brother MicroFreak. I'm missing features, but I'm sure I'll find them. You're definitely there.
Now you can decide for yourself whether the MiniFreak is the worthy successor to his brother or not. Of course only measured by the functions that I show.
There will be many more videos about this, I can already promise that. Give me a little more time.
Set up:
MiniFreak (OSC 1 SuperWave Saw OSC 2 VAnalog)
Sound Mode: Polyphonic
16 Steps sequence (1/8, 96 BPM)
Effect: Specular Reverb v3
Recorded directly thru Roland Go Mixer Pro with Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro

Most of the Time I am using the Specular Reverb v3 for my jams.
Sometimes the NTS-1 with the Cathedral Preset or just the iPad.
Favorite part is 7:00 when the 2. Oscilator comes in .....
Enjoyed. Thank you
my plesure mate
The new microKorg...?
On second thought nope, this is a lot more a real time performance synth.
How are you playing over the sequence? I just got the MF and was trying to do this but it wasn't working, which made me wonder if there was some setting (perhaps on a per patch basis) that needed tweaking.
Poly mode and then just play
Awesome sounds
one question can this keyboard also act as a midi keyboard to drive vsts?
Or are Arturia Keystep 32 keys better for it?
My Microfreak is able to drive external midi devices so I see no reason that the Minifreak shouldn't, it would be an odd thing to miss in such a fascinating instrument
hi i noticed you only had only ONE video with the nubass on your channel? did you sell it? :-) best regards!
I did a full hours jam with it and I enjoxed it very much. But the nubass doenst fit to the rest of my music preferences.
When "Envelope mode" is set to "Polyphony" or "Paraphonic" playing keys doesn't mute the current step.
yeah that's right ...
Mini freak with drum brute
Very nice. I took a long shower relaxing to this :)
Very cool, very nice of Arturia to send you the synth too!
What are the features you're missing from the MicroFreak?
I am couting atm. expl. 2. Sequence missing ...
I think its sounds alittle bit digital and steril, comparing to the microfreak round and deep sound/filter. I would like to hear a mini vs micro analog filter.
Love your channel😊
Sounds wonderful and dreamy! Nice to listen at the end of a work day.
Thank you S&H, always nice to see your wonderful feedback here. :)
is it possible to program a FULL song? My songs have chord changes and I don't want the same arpeggi playing forever
Yeah I think so.
Great chill session, love how it just floats almost like its suspended in time. Thanks for sharing!
your welcome gonemad synths. Thanks for listening.
I think you like this mini? or maybe prefer the micro.
TBH: I prefer the MicroFreak atm, cause I dint know every function of the big brother. Give it some time.
My dude can you verify if the keybed is poly aftertouch as midi controller like MF . Say in pigments ie. I know its poly single channel for the synth engine but i'm sure the keybed can do polyaftertouch in midi mode
I will check it out
hello info about the preset and notes sequence to get the sound appreciated ! !
oh yes ... my fault ...
Its not a preset its a combination of two simple oscilators as mentioned in the description. And then a "turn the knobs and see what happens" thing
@@Volcaniced Can you name the 16 steps? Sadly I'm kind of a tone deaf, and I love how they sound!
@@mjaa1307 Investigating a sequence out of a jam is harder, then I thought. So it's: C1/G1/D2/A#2/C2/G2/D3/A#3/D3/G2/C2/A#2/D2/G1/C1/G1/
@@Volcaniced I am gonna try it
Amazing sounds 😊 GOOD LUCK ! 🍀
did you use a different sound model on the Sequencer play VS what you manually played?
If so, how?
No. It's the same sound but a lot of tweaking here.
@@VolcanicedDo you know if thers a way we can use 2 different sound? If not do you know if I can clock in another synth with a sequencer to add a differenf sound?
@@7shawnmartin7 you got an audio In to add the sound of your wish .. even the MiniFreak itself can be routed here.
Nice
Nice Holger
Do you find it less fun for live jamming?
I have and love my MicroFreak.
The MiniFreak sequencer looks great (step buttons and pages + overdubbing) and seems like step up.
I can't really understand why Arturia decided to keep only one sequencer, weird decision imo.
I loved the keyboard on Micro, so I was a bit disappointed seeing "real" keys.
Soundwise Mini seems waay deeper and richer than Micro, which sounds a bit metallic and has a tin can feel to it - but still has it's cool surgical beauty.
Saying all this....I want the Mini 😂
hmm eventually you shoild wait a bit longer till the manual is available and more ppl are testing this thing. All the point you listed are the same downers for me. This Instrument is noch primary for LiveJamming. not atm. Lets see what upcoming updates are changing.
@@Volcaniced thank you for reply and advice. I'll hold on a bit longer 🙂
Hello, I have these questions.
1.- Sequencer Play/Stop button on the Hardware doesn't trigger the equivalent on Minifreak V.
2.- Arp notes played on the hardware does not sound on the V version.
P.S. Both work well on the Hardware and the V.
I had not that much time to test these things in the last month unfortunately. But I will. Do you use the newest firmware on the MiniFreak?
@@Volcaniced First many thanks for the answer. Yes I use the last firmware and I think maybe that is the reason, cause I didn't notice that before.
According to arturia tech support, The Hardware Sequencer's Play/Stop Button is not available when linked with the Virtual to prevent MIDI conflicts. I think there shouldn't be any though.
The Arp Plays well it was my fault.
So the sequencer is just 16 steps and limited to one key?
No.
Brilliant!
Блин((( обычный VA синтезатор....🤷
это намного больше... но и немного меньше, чем у MicroFreak, к сожалению
Should I buy one VolcaNiced?
This depends, if you like it, buy it. But be sure it fits to your music. Or just way till ARTURIA released a manual and the VST to decide for yourself. This is a very expensive Synth so you have to compare and answer pro and cons for yourself.
24 minutes of pure enjoyment during my breakfast, thank you.
I do get that same metallic bright feeling about the MiniFreak just like I did when I started watching MicroFreak jams. I think the sound will grow on me again. It could use a bit of warmth.
Happy that you like it. What exactly is this feeling about?
@@Volcaniced At first I did not like the MicroFreak so much, It was all too metallic and harsh to my ears. It took quite a while to get used to it. Know I have that same feeling with this MiniFreak jam. The notes you play are good, but the sound is not great to my ears (yet).
@@rayderrich as a microfreak owner I think it might just be the incidental choices in this video - the microfreak can absolutely sound warm and can have a great low end too
@@zoned7609 Would the MiniFreak do the same? It uses different filters and other specs perhaps?
Honestly I like the cold sound, but that's also a stylistic preference based on the music I usually make, and I'll still use analog gear for other sounds... but having cold, metallic, digital sounds as part of your tonal pallette can also be fantastic, especially for darker genres.
great jam, as allways dude!!!!!! you are awsome!!!
Thank you mate. Appriciate your commentary
@@Volcaniced for me bobeats and loopop are not better than you
I enjoy your videos more, they spend 90% of the time talking
