tech bro masculinity is no different from Eric Cartman’s masculinity and it’s pathetic that the rest of us are subject to their half-baked personalities
The bangs & voice while unironically talking about "masculine" energy got me in tears. bro is rich enough to have a midlife crisis in private, why do this?
The difference is that, until recently. It has become standard corporate practice to at least pretend that you were trying to do something about the imbalance. Zuck and Musk are going from saying “People are lying about how our companies are dominated by masculinity” to “Our companies are dominated by masculinity, and we’re proud of it.”
Came from the Bsky post, love it. Subbed. If I could offer one piece of feedback, take care to "normalize" the audio level of each clip so that they are consistent. Maybe even add compression and limiting to your voice track to make it really solid. Cheers!
The vlogs have now expanded in a new dimension: the horizontal. Apt takes as always -- the kind of masculinity on display was parodied around 15 years ago in The Lonely Island's "I Threw It on the Ground". You also have industry titans who have been seen and see themselves as young counterculture (whether that is accurate is another matter) entering middle age and the establishment, and struggling to reconcile. I enjoy the tone in this video, while similar to the TikToks has its own character.
Hyped you're on UA-cam now. One thing that suuuuucks about TikTok is the comment length is so truncated so I can't leave a really thoughtful comment without going into multi messages etc. The editing is interesting too. I like how you're using it to emphasize certain points and use clips to enhance reference. This is a super cool development. Been following you since Slate way back in like 2010 or something so I'm excited to see the evolution of the medium you're using in addition to these hot takes.
Another element of this the fact that the definition of masculinity is really malleable, and is mostly the product of advertising. If you ask five men what this term means you will get five different answers.
Very good point that the “masculinity” that is currently being pushed on the right is childish. Sad thing is, when you showed the Wolf of Wall Street clip, all I could think is how many people miss the point of that movie. It’s hard to get the message that this is not a great way to be when the movie also honestly points out that this is what winning at capitalism looks like.
My sense is that Zuck has in common with Trump the narcissism and venality but not the more advanced aspects of Trump’s pathology. Where Trump is the ultimate alpha male bully, Zuck is content to ingratiate himself with Trump, probably subconsciously, by saying and doing things that he assumes would please the man who is in a position to affect his company.
I lived in the Bay Area for 20 years and San Jose was sometimes dubbed "Man Jose". It meant less about the dominance of men in the tech industry and more about the dating opportunities in Silicon Valley proper.
Hi Jamelle, long time watcher, first time commenter. What do you think about the message displayed when you open TikTok, and that it mentions Trump? If TikTok comes back, do you expect it to have a right-wing shift, or more censorship?
25% women in tech. In the year 2025 I'm confident that most of these are not developers and the like, but instead have roles that are also needed at non-tech companies and hence are not tech-jobs.
What if one of his employees showed him some masculine energy. Masculinity ( aggression) for the leader. Submission for the worker. That’s really what he means.
My only not to this video is to pay a bit more of attention to the sound equalization. The clips are several times louder than your voice, typically the editing programs have a bar which measures the decibels (loudness) of the clip playing (and some show the waveforms too) that helps a lot in leaving things more or less in the same volume. Otherwise, good video.
I agree with someone who said he's presenting more like he's going through a midlife crisis. We're all allowed to evolve or change, but he sounds like he's attacking men and saying regular tech bros are too weak and not masculine (aggressive) enough.
I find it really offensive that you're not a fan of Rogue One! 😂 It's actually my favorite Star Wars film but I understand that we can all have different opinions and still get along. ❤
They've rebranded the midlife crisis as 'celebrating masculinity'.
Finally. Masculity I can get behind 😂
You hit the nail on the head. These “men” are performing masculinity in the way that an adolescent boy thinks of masculinity.
tech bro masculinity is no different from Eric Cartman’s masculinity and it’s pathetic that the rest of us are subject to their half-baked personalities
There is nothing less masculine than using the term "Masculine energy"
Happy you're here. May the mighty gods of the algorithm be good to you
Boost for the algorithm because I want more of this long form content.
This is eight minutes...
@vawaran compared to his tiktok/Instagram reel it's long my dude
The bangs & voice while unironically talking about "masculine" energy got me in tears. bro is rich enough to have a midlife crisis in private, why do this?
Im kinda taken aback. When has corporate culture Not been saturated with masc energy? I work in an IT related field, and i find it near inescapable.
The difference is that, until recently. It has become standard corporate practice to at least pretend that you were trying to do something about the imbalance.
Zuck and Musk are going from saying “People are lying about how our companies are dominated by masculinity” to “Our companies are dominated by masculinity, and we’re proud of it.”
every ambient where one takes from the other will be masculine
YeahnSTEM already has a toxic rep
That's not masculine energy, it's overcompensating wimp energy.
All of the red pill and adjacent does feels like “you can’t tell me to go to bed mom!” that’s the most accurate observation I’ve heard of it

Oh now I know who you are on bluesky.
Same 🎉
Yay!! I’m so so glad you’re on here!
Wild to see the profile picture i've been looking at for years moving and speaking
Really hope this is where your video content ends up after the TikTok ban rather than Instagram.
Happy to see you on youtube!
Thanks for posting here!
It's awesome to see you on UA-cam! I've been a longtime fan of your writing. You should put your face in your Thumbnails though!
Glad to see you over here, your Tik Toks were my favorite part of that platform
Love the new aspect ratio
Great video, thank you man. You just gained a new subscriber.

Been following you since your Am. Prospect days. Keep it up. I was never a TikTok person, so glad to see you on UA-cam
Welcome to the platform!
I’m here for the long form content. Much more satisfying than short hot takes imo.
Yeah, I'm really digging how Jamelle is starting to get creative with editing and film as a format.
i will be here for more of these Takes™

Found you!!! ❤I think you have a real talent explaining on video. Thanks for your thoughtful commentary
I am in. Glad you're here.
Loving the idea of your UA-cam era, great video
The 'move fast and break things' people don't have enough masculinity? Good lord. Thank god I sucked at programming.
Love the Criterion hat!
So happy you’re on here now!!!! 🎉
Mr Jamelle Bouie! Big fan of your thinking and writing, really happy to see you here on youtube, and looking forward many more of your video Takes™
Nice, I look forward to more of these.

So happy you’re here!
Loved the video. I don't know how to do it, but it would be good to make the audio of the clips the same level as your main voice track.
So glad I found this, Jamelle is the only reason I still click on the NYTs
Me too!
Interesting take and hope to see more stuff from you.
Also, how you gonna hate Rouge One??
I’m a little lad, here for my takes

I’ve never hit the subscribe button faster… hope this channel blows up!

Like he did with biden
Two pillars of masculinity rubbing up against each other, oozing manliness. No room for feminine energy here.
Welcome to UA-cam Jamelle! My favorite current writer and tbinker
I watched you on TikTok. Just followed you over here!
Jamelle takes on more platforms, love it.
Wow heck of a first video. Subscribed and I’ll check out ur column.
Bringing some great context Jamelle!
I'm just here to help the algorithm
"I'm doing my part!"
Goddamn dude, you blew out our ears with that last clip!

So happy to see you on UA-cam! 🥳 **slams subscribe button immediately**
He saw "Wolf of Wall Street" and wants his work place to be like that.
Ni hao, comrades. Wait, wrong tiktok alternative.
Thank you for this analysis!

My humble offering to the algorithm
Just subscribe. Love your content brotha
BTW very hard to search in YT for your channel. I had to type in the URL manually.
Here from TikTok. Always one of my favs over there
Great start!
Hoping this will penetrate the RW dominance in this medium. Even so, yours is an important voice that deserves boosting.
masculine energy? he looks like an aerobics instructor from the 1980s
Good take!
4:51 perfect framing.
Off topic but would love a video about your cameras 📷
Love your coat
the man is perpetually dapper
Classic midlife crisis right there. Immediate ick.
This is great. Can't wait for more.
Feel free to keep filming with your phone haphazardly on walks, idk why I felt like I was having a conversation with you during those vids!
So Beautiful, Straight Forward, In Plain English, & Strong. Thank You For This.
Quit bashing Rogue 1! It's the only Star Wars movie I like lol (I say that not having watched many of them). 😉😂
Just joking ofc, love your content.
great vid!
Completely off topic here, but I love the tiny kid-size stove & play set behind you. Do they make a tiny Loge pan? :)
Have enjoyed learning from your writing for a while, would love to hear your cultural criticism on Rogue One 😂
Brilliant video. Instant sub.

The goat has posted 🎉
They're trying to be masculine? Could have fooled me. I thought they were trying to be cringe
Five Forks 👍
Zuck can never gain enough masculine energy to recover from “smoked meats”,
The masculine energy these guys put on is so performative.
Billionaires always talk out their respective asses.
Love this, excited for more
These companies have made more money in any other time in the history of the world. Why are they not happy? What the hell is their issue!!
Love the video
Dream team-up would be you and F.D Signifier
What if one of his employees showed him some masculine energy. Masculinity ( aggression) for the leader. Submission for the worker. That’s really what he means.
Praise be the mighty algo
Love your tik tok content. Happy to see you here
You’re 100000% spot-on here. No notes 🙌

So good. Alpha males in the pre sapien flavor.

Going to throw these up as a podcast as well?
My kid has that exact same kitchen.
This is a great take but please work on your audio situation.
He just means being rapacious. And probably belligerent, too.
Masculine energy from the revenge of the nerds guys?!? Is this the height of irony?
I find it really offensive that you're not a fan of Rogue One! 😂 It's actually my favorite Star Wars film but I understand that we can all have different opinions and still get along. ❤
I hate Zuck with a passion but I'm excited to see you on UA-cam!
Suckerberg has no idea what he is talking about.
