- The best of the good life is a home off the grid, out of cell range, in Matobo Hills and a vintage Model T Ford to get you there.
We’ve come a long way over The Limpopo, up here to Matobo Hills to see this and it’s worth every mile it took to get here.
This is the weekend escape of Beks and Sophia Ndlovu, near the World Heritage Site of Matobo Hills. It’s a brief drive from Bulawayo for Beks and his family. He founded and is the CEO of an adventure safaris operation in Zimbabwe, Botswana and Zambia. When he wants to get away from it all it’s here, to the land of his ancestors, that he comes.
They called the house Khayelitshe, Ndebele for “house in stone”, but one of the first features you notice is the auto-parts outdoor lounge suite - born of Beks’ fertile design mind. Designing and building their home from scratch, Beks conceived the blueprint in his head, a good while before the build. The wood and stone were far more than stylistic choices.
Colour brings textures and prints together out here on the veranda. Mixed in with Indian pieces, some features have been locally crafted in keeping with Beks’ desire to make the most of homegrown skill - from across the continent.
The Ndlovus see their feet as firmly rooted in African soil, but equally as citizens of the world. It shows in their mix of North, East, West and Southern African styles. Come three on a Friday afternoon its destination Matobo with no Wi-Fi or cell signal - just the family connecting with nature.
It’s first and foremost a family home to the Ndlovus and their nine, eight and five year old children.
It was a unique privilege being able to buy a two hundred and forty-hectare tract of land in this magical area and even if you find yourself with nothing but a rock to sit on - it’s a pretty impressive rock!

I've been in Zimbabwe three times. The nature is wonderful. You did a great job. The country needs more people like you. Congrats.
Thanks and God bless for visiting us
I loved everything. Beks you are one of the few rich africans that is still trying to revive our culture. The fact that you didn't include just Mapunbubwe/Great Zimbabwe, but also Great Benin(Nigeria) and Bamileke(Cameroon), makes me really proud and happy.
Those builders were related from all over, I discovered through my DNA research , same type of structures
One day is one day,l am going to build my parents such a beautiful house in an isolated area like this ,so that they can enjoy their retiring time away from city
More like chasing them away
@@immortalprincipal2464 not really, that's what my parents want. It's very subjective though
shantel zenda you’re a good daughter !!
shantel zenda you will

Son of the soil you did it”we did it”.Thank you for loving ur continent and it beautiful Rich Culture,I’m proud of this mentality you’ve built ur home into.Hope other rich/European educated Africans can find this contentment of pride in being an African King/Queen.Salute!!
BUILD UP SO MUCH WEALTH AND THEN SHARE IT WITH A WHITE GERMAN WOMAN, HOW RIDICULOUS
@@JomoDaMusicMan interesting observation. Ancestral land and not an African queen to share it with. We never learn
I'm half Zimbabwean half South African. I'm proud of what I see. that is master piece, work done by my fellow Zimbabwean brother, keep up the good work, big up to Great Zimbabwean

And i will always say this : i'm proud to be an African!
These two people connected very well. They made the whole presentation seamless. Production was smooth, the house, the nature! There was just a smooth flow and coercion of everything involved. Well done topbilling, bheks and the wonderful presenter. This is beautiful
Chakanaka chakanaka. Ndiri pano pa Zimbabwe Gokwe NeMbudziya ❤🇿🇼🇿🇼🇿🇼👍
am i the only one that notices how fluent and well spoken this guy is... he describes features of his house as if he is a Top billing presenter.. wow
Indeed, beks is also married to a white woman i guess that helps
Bee Ndlovu that’s what happens when you live abroad for a long time. Your English refined and polishes. He’s lived in Australia and Germany.
Lot of people are multilingual in Africa, it is a common competency. English is just another language. Just in English speaking countries they are a bit disabled in this department. Typical of monolinguals, they are always surprised when you can speak their language well. Unfortunately they influence others to be impressed with people speaking English as well.
MthaX TV No surprise there. All the beautiful zimbabwean women and he chose a white woman.
Willard it’s easy to meet a white woman abroad and any white woman could say YES if they see something in you. Try that within Zimbabwean borders, it won’t work. No matter how rich or educated or handsome or sparkling personality one has. It won’t work. They are raised differently and behave as such in African countries.
I love my Zimbabwe and the educated people we are
Educated idiots.
shut up malaka
Some pples IQ leaves a lot of questions, why the idiot part
Educated and hungry lol
We not educated we just know how to speak english if we were educated we should have fixed our economy in the 80s. I rather be un educated but rich than educated but lining for 70zwl mealie meal
This is amazing and inspiring for a Tanzanian as well! Zanzibar doors literally in the house! Shukran!
Kazi kwetu watu wa Africa Mashariki
I am yet to see a home that speaks to me like the Ndlovu home, absolutely stunning!!! This home is everything
truelly an inspiration, makes me proud to be Zimbo
You have inspired me!!!! I love reclaimed materials architecture and this is a whole ball game, very delightfully done, simplicity, sophistication and yet rustic- truly inspired Kenyan. Love it, LOVE IT!!!!!
I love this million times ,wish if all young Zimbabweans have this kind of vast creativity our country would have been somewhere in terms of development but we are fooled by politicians buy us with mug of" chibatai vanhu" 5year in 5year out open your eyes Zimbabwean youth some Zimboes have good live out there, my message.
He has a good message. I love the vintage number plate

Comments:
Other Africans: I admire how hardworking and resilient Zimbaweans are...
Zimbabweans: aaah chinonzi chibhanzi 😂
Accurate
i was about to say that
Ayanda Dube 😂taura hako
what is that?
We're on the same side. You're talking about the process we're talking about the end result: resources that allowed him to build. No one is saying anything bad about him.
absolutely gorgeous . well done Mr Ndlovu
My genes are screaming for justice already, a lot can be solved in my life by just affording to habitate in such a space, Africa is one of the most underrated spaces for one to enjoy wealth.
I would self isolate in at this place any day
wow! i am completely swept off my feet. breath-taking views showing a different picture of what Zimbabwe is all about. At something to be positive about. Well done brother.
She did a great job interviewing. Good energy.
She's very pretty but, Was bit robotic like in an interview with a memorized script. She should let it flow a bit more.
Loose THE FAKE HAIR. WHY ARE BLACK WOMAN ALWAYS WANTING THIS FAKE EUROPEAN HAIR??!! IT IS SO EMBARRASSING! WE ARE SAYING THAT OUR HAIR IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BE SHOWCASED! WHAT ARE WE TEACHING THE YOUNG KIDS WITH THIS BEHAVIOUR!?

Well done Mr. Ndlovu for such an inspiring beautiful home near a very majestic setting and the whole story behind. I believe in short that is what we are all trying say here!
May these simple glimpses into how others build and manage their affairs, inspire each and everyone to love their own hustle, family, be mindful of the next person. All for a better world
Zimbabweans should be highly regarded by the rest of Afrika. They belong to the proudest People in Southern Afrika area. No complex at all.
Lion king politics have over shadowed this lovely nation, I guess people now measure Zimbabwe because of its politics which has made the economy crumble
Sandy Sue i agree. Afrikan politicians are a huge disgrace to that continent.
I have never seen such an incompetence and selfishness such as from the political rulers of those countries.
Congratulations Beks. Any relation to the footballer Peter? He was a hero of mine when playing for Sheffield United. I know there are probably hundreds of thousands of Ndlovus but I thought I would ask. Beautiful house, well done indeed.
He needs to engineer houses for more African. Great job!!💕💕💕
Love his accent, and the place. I want to go there. Such vision too.
Absolutely spectacular! Must have cost a lot - but the money was wisely and creatively utilized. It is nice to see a young African couple with this level of passion and ambition. We do not need to migrate anywhere. God has blessed us with the most beautiful continent. This points to what Africa can be. And I believe will be.
Most captivating house I've seen yet on SABC
I miss Zimbabwe 😭☹☹. We are praying for YOU beautiful country plus people.

I like your eye for detail, esp those old railway slippers, very expensive Iron Wood that is next to impossible to get nowadays, it lasts for more that a hundred years. Old car door handles can also make good handles for doors and cabinets, while headlight covers can make interest ceiling lights
Great job Beks.... in 2013 when I read one of the Zim magazines where he was featured I knew a lot was coming....kudos brother
Khumula izimbadada zakho - uma ufuna ukungena kulendlu....That rusting and antiquity accents are on point....Well done Mr. Ndlovu...

great to see my fellow Zimbabwean. congrats. the presenter could have been better though, she was just asking questions and not commenting on his responses making it seem like she wasn't interested by what he had to say.
I miss that place. As a child i played amongst those rocks and camped the for a whole school holiday in 1986 with my best friend from Gifford High. His name was Thembalani Moyo. He was a brilliant guy. I had a book on precious stones and another on the Geology of metals. Themba's family lived on a farm about 20kms from this exact spot so , as i was allowed to spend my holiday with Themba, Matopos and the lake was the obvious choice to start our hunt for "treasure"! We found loads of interesting stuff from old graves to rock paintings in places that looked like no human had ever been there for thousands of years. We found some loads of bones as well. We found of rocks with all kinds of weird crystals inside of it. We found what turned out to be a Garnet (which made us start dreaming of diamonds). We found a smooth rock in the middle of nowhere in the mud by itself and it was made of metal.. Whilst the others were listening to Smiley Culture we were drawing maps of our "places of interest" and practising to be Geologists , prospectors and snake catchers. We were only 12 but we had big plans.
Well done Beks and Mrs Ndlovu
Wow. Amazing. Im in India
It feels like a modern take on world heritage house
